88 350 vs '08 mustang gt

How much money would it take to get a stock '88 350 trans am to consistantly beat the '05-'08 mustang gt? Is it even worth trying to mess with a car this old when so many new cars are coming stock with 300+ hp?

Mid 13s will run with it, so whatever it costs for your car to run that.
