Hey yall. I have a 1990 GTA with the 305 TPI 5 Speed but the previous owner swapped the 3.42's for 2.92's to get better gas milage. A guy at work has a 2004 Cavalier Base, 2.2 Ecotec with a 5 speed, no A/C, removed the muffler and replaced with a cherrybomb.
He wants to race because he thinks he "Knows his clutch better" and will there fore use me. Now call me a fool but I'm sure that Even if I had no idea how to use a clutch I could still Abuse him.
So he wants to race a 1/4 Mile.
So... Will i beat him?

 

I would think you would waste him

 

my bone stock, base model, 05' Sunfire 5speed went 15.8 at 89mph with a pathetic 2.4 sec 60ft just to give you an idea of what they do

if my 60ft was better, say 2.1 or so, the car would be an easy low 15 sec stock jbody

 

this is sad you even have to ask. Ecotec Cavaliers are good but no race for you

 

yeah man, a guy in a cavalier tried to get into it with me once. i floored it just to embarass him

 

Sorry for the lateness of my reply. But i raced him in a 1/4 mile and I definately beat him. One thing i must say about owning an F-Body is I noticed a lot of people don't give them the credit they deserve. I hte the negative trailer park image these vehicles have but I love when people who think that try to race me

 

Yea i hate that to everyone thinks their the crap of the camaros. But they are fast even the 305s

 

I know... and considering in their day they were basically a stepped down corvette it's just odd

Well when i told guys at the shop I work at i bought a T/A they were like Oh so when do you move into your trailer

 

I dont see why our cars get labled *******, isnt the big giant trucks enough i dont see nothing ******* about my z, cept for when there was a glasspack on it lol

i think its just b/c they are jealous....

I beat two 305 TPI cars with my stock M5 05 cavy coupe and never lost to a stock LO3 car. The average 1/4 mile time for a 15+ year old 305 car is in the 15's. I don't know why people knock the J-bodies so much. Both cars have nearly the same HP to weight ratio.

 

I bet they can't drive ot there cars are really, really tired.

I have seen several 305 TPI autos at the track..and the 2.2L Ecotecs are over 1 second slower.

Heck even my 2.4L 5 speed could not win.....although it was VERY close
