Re: which gear to start off with/in?

if it's your 89 camaro, and it drives fine, just leave it in drive, it should shift just fine around 5000 rpm or so, the car will start in first by itself no matter where you put the gear selector. if you have tire spin, don't just mash the gas, roll down on it....that the basic way of doing it.

Just leave it out of over drive all the way down the strip. If you floor it and the tires spin out bad on your first run, let off the gas a bit to get going and then floor it. Get to the track early so you can make multiple runs and and you should get better with each trip down the track. Have fun

Re: which gear to start off with/in?

just think of the automatic shifter as a limiter for the stock trans. if u put it in 2 then it wont shift past 2 and in d it wont go past drive (3rd gear 1:1 ratio) like said b4 put it into d and let it shift run a few passes to learn how to launch it and feather it off the line if need be...

Put it in drive and leave it there.

Leave it in "D".

If you're stupid enough to wanna manually shift an auto, may aswell start in "R".

Re: which gear to start off with/in?

well how bout a manual? t-5 wc to be exact. i heard start in one. but i heard start in 2. then i heard start in 2 to stop wheel spin, then shift down to 1st to get the high rpm boost, then shift like normal. then i heard starting in 2nd would hurt the rear end/ trans itslef, then i heard it wont. so wuts the best route when dragging a t-5 wc, and dont say switch to an atuo...please

Re: which gear to start off with/in?

I thought for 700r4's that when you are WOT the overdrive is disabled. Wouldn't you want to keep the overdrive to stay in the cars powerband longer during the race??

Re: which gear to start off with/in?

Manual transmissions, ALWAYS start in first gear.

Unless you're running 4.10's, you wont need to shift an automatic into overdrive. Just leave it in drive until you get really good. Then you can try starting in first and bumping the shifter up to 2nd and then drive. 4th gear on a 700R4 is not very strong, and WOT will kill it.
