87 formy vs 97 ws6

my firend insists he can smoke my 87 bird from my signiture. he "supposedly" beat another firend with a 92 foxbody auto with cold air full exhaust and 4.10 posi by 5 lengths.. i beat the same mustang by 3... i think he is lying

his car is as follows.
97 ws6
lt1 (stock)
4l60e with shift kit and 3000 stall
cat back with a flowmaster
after market mass air flow and a cols air for the ws6 hood.
other than that he is stock. on 275 45 17 falkens.

i am as my sig describes. i agreed to use my street tires 235 70 15 bfg radial t/a's umi sfc's umi lower control arms and panhard and wonder bar.

he is out of gas and cant race til next saturday but i wanna know what yall think befor hand.

If your pulling low 12's you'll have no problems other than getting traction with those 235's. Warm them up good.

LOL, your friend is severely outmatched. He bit off WAY more than he can chew. Happy hunting.

I bet you could knock off a few tenth's with a higher stall converter. Prob around 3k. I knocked off about .3 going from 2500 to 3500

i figured as much i keep a solid car on the ls1 ws6 cars and they smash him. thnx

and as for teh higher stall.... i was actually thinking about it but im the process of trying to sell her so i can start yet another third gen project (this is my 3rd) so i dont wanna wastmore cash than gas for it til its gone. and i take it back i did run with street tires once a few months back. 13.1 ..... err thats slow

Provided he can get traction, he's only looking at high 12's.

You gota love it! You should bring up the idea of a race with mr. lt1 infront of some other car people and explain how he came up with great idea in the first place. You gota do the whole down playing your car thing saying "its not running good right now but ill race anyway". "It should be a close race" bla bla bla. LOL. You would pull so hard on this guy. even if you spin off the line.

Re: 87 formy vs 97 ws6

Yeah, I think they are going to his head, but you could play off of that. Even make him think he is going to get more and push to run with your slicks. Keep in mind though he will gain a little. I'm gonna cast my vote with your formula, my wife has a '94 formula with similar mods and my '79 camaro (similar build to your Formula) is considerably faster.

Re: 87 formy vs 97 ws6

Is he getting tuned also after the headers? Only ask because I went incredibly lean after I did headers on my WS6. And I only went with SLP shorties. But I did gain quite a bit after it was retuned for the headers.

Re: 87 formy vs 97 ws6

Have you ever used the bottle on the streets? I dont mean busy streets, but unoccupied? Why dont you just put those slicks on an hit the juice about half way through 2ed to see what this guy has. After second gear you should have an idea what hes made of. And then just really finish him off with some juice?lol. He doesn't need to your on the spray... put him in his place. Dont get me wrong N/A would more than do the job... I dont know maybe im an idiot for even suggesting this act on public roads. I dont have nitrous, so i dont know how a car would respond to the power vs traction? Gota love it!

Re: 87 formy vs 97 ws6

well.. he finially got his stuff together and got the ***** to run em.. we went 3 times from a stop.. he put a full length on me the first time cuz i lost my whole first gear to the evils of tire spin.. both later races i owned by 2-3 lenths cuz i realized i had to roll on the pedal instead of the old fashioned brake start and smash it.

Your friend "should" be doing low 13's high 12's in a decent DA and a solid launch. Congrats on the win, its nice to hear Thirdgens beating up modded 4th gens. He needs LTs bad. When I put mine on, it was a night and day feeling.

if the lt1 doesnt have a steeper gear you got him 99%

the stock auto lt1 gears suck badly and ive seen built 355 lt1's run 13's due to crap gear.

friends specs:
96 t/a
355 using forged internals
3500 stall
built 4l60-e
STOCK 2.73 gears!

ran a stupid 13.4

Re: 87 formy vs 97 ws6

ha ha gears canmake garbage sometime i know how much of a difference i made going from 3.08 to 3.73... anyway he is licking his wounds and got the idea to upgrade from the lt1 intake to the lt4... im not a huge lt fan and dont know much on them but i thought that required a head swap too. and if not is that even going to make enough of a difference to catch me ?

Going to the LT4 intake is a waste of money without the matching heads. He be better off just spray painting his stock intake red.

if anything he made the car slower. reason being is the LT4 ports do not match perfectly up with the lt1 heads causing turbulence in the intake. Until the tard buys gears/stall/cam as a package or puts together a package hes gonna be a mid to low 14 second lt1 lol
