what is the top speed of a 1991 z28 with a 305 tpi automatic and 2.73 gears

 

I have a 91 Z28 with 305 and 2:73s and during one race with my freinds tiburon we went to they said about 125 and i think i toped it out in 3rd at about 130 not sure speedo is only 110. Needle was resting on the trip reset button for a while, think it wanted more tho

 

i've heard that my 87 350 iroc was capable of 155 mph. so i would say that yours is at least capable of 135 mph minimum guessing u can do 140 mph.

just messing around i've had mine up to 125 mph and i know it was ready to pull alot more... i think i only had 2,500 rpm.... well maybe 3000 rpm

 

Doing the math, 3rd gear tops out at 140, 4th in theory would be able to do 200 if you had the horsepower, which it lacks by quite a bit, and could keep it wide open and in 4th, which isn't possible stock.

I have had mine at over 150 mph. The speedo was at the km/h letters past the 140 mark. The car was still pulling, but my revs were going past 4600 and I backed out for fear of breaking something. My car however has a manual trans and 3.42 gear ratios in the back. I have not had any experience with the auto.

 

when i still had my (not stock) 305 tpi auto i had it up around 150+,but i also have a b&m wide open throttle 3rd-4th upshift kit in the 700r4

Afterall it's a thirdgen, huge amounts of frame twisting torque, coupled with the aerodynamics of a fighter jet, and the fact god himself had a hand in it's production.

Just don't go out and try to test a cars top speed, and if you do, don't kill an innocent person.

i have took my 2.73 auto l98 to 135. at that point it felt like i was eaither going to break something of shake my interior apart. she still has some more to go, but i didnt want to risk loseing control of the car

in 87 motortrend did a test between the 350 iroc and the mustang (now sure of specs but i know it was fords version of the 350 iroc except for the manual which you could get in mustangs bigger engine.

anyway long story short:
after a day on the track the two performed so close that no one could decide which they liked better. just figured id mention it

ps i personally like the camaros looks and their t-tops (bastards leak though) no offence mustang, but i don't like the look of the mustang in ur avatar, truly no offense i just thing a sports/ muscle car should be a longer body length.

Thats what I've been saying all along, the fox Mustang and the thirdgen Fbody were designed in the same time period, with the same technology, and were more or less the same platform to start with.

I would also like to note, I posted before Viper did. Its funny though, when mentioning us you refer to me as Mustang, which is fine, and him as Viper... just a fun fact I find amusing!

Ive had my LG4/700r4/3.42 rear up to around 130. Car felt pretty solid too, woulda went faster. I say around 130, because the speedo only goes to 85, so I have to guesstimate. Lets just say it said 20mph, Which I was definitely not doing 20. Oh and the car has full exhaust, ac, and smog delete.

 

So is it now illegal to like mustangs and camaros. At my house theres a honda a camaro and a mustang. My camaro my bros 10 sec CRX and my dads 06 mustang Gt. Ive been considering getting a fox body as my next car dose that mean your gonna start bashing on me to??

in my opinion... and i have owned both, a 350 tpi 700r4 car and multiple stangs... is the camaro is a better road car with better handling, and the mustang has a far better set up for drag... mustang rear suspension with little mods and 150 60ft.s are no problem... plus they weigh alot less...

both have advantages... quite the squabble on here, lol......

no offense here but i would love to honestly with no hill see a 305 car hit 140.... really i would.. i didn't think they had the ***** to do that, stock they are not fast... 350 tpi car is totally different

 

How did a thread asking a simple queston--what is a particular Camaro's top speed--evolve into a Camaro versus Mustang debate? Seems like there's some immaturity on this board.

Most of the magazines of the era posted top speeds of TPI 305 Camaros at about 140. Good aerodynamics played a big part in that.

 

I guess you have not seen enough 305s.

The fastest Auto 305 was the 215hp 1985 or early 1986 IROC, both of which had 215hp and 3.42 gears. Stock those cars went about 140mph top speed, which was right at the engine's power peak.

The 1991 Auto 305 certainly had no more stock HP and was hindered by the 2.73 gears, leaving you too high an RPM in third and not enough power to pull fourth.

Top speed: between 130 and 135mph, all else being equal.

 

The difference is when one of those fat losers thinks he's a hip, in shape man...

back to the point, I've had my LB9 with same gears up to 130, after that, I was coming up FAST on a smokey and wisely decided to back off. I'm sure I can easily hit 140. But the tires I have now are not rated for those speeds so it will be a while before I go that fast again...gotta love those highway gears!
