84 z28 350 vs modded 1996 3.8L mustang

The third gen is mine, obviously , the stang is a friend of mines. He use to be the cocky kind, he has 2 mustangs, a 95 and a 96, both are 3.8L. He drives his 95 everywhere and thinks he can take anything, so i had a friend of mine shut him up with his 2000 1500 silverado 5.3L vortec. i know you all think trucks are slow (and for good reason), but his truck scoot, mods are as follows (for the truck)

LS1 dual efans -got rid of heavy azz clutch fan, helped a ton
corvette dual CAI
really mild ported TB
straight pipes
aftermarket POSI unit

mods for 95:
CAI, well maintained, about all i know. its a auto.

destroyed the 95 by 5-7 car lengths up to 90-95 mph. i take his truck by 3 car lengths by 85-90 with corroded spark plugs and a clogged up air filter. (the air filter was horrible, we live on a dirt road plus i spun a ton of cookies the other day, they guy at the parts store didn't believe the 350 was running at all )(my bad)

the 96 on the other hand is a completely different story. mods include:
Shift kit
New gears (havn't found out yet)
Posi
'Performance' heads (people out here exagerrate alot so don't be thinking they are like AFR or TSP or DART or something, most likely have a mild port job or something, the kid doesn't have that much money.)
Performance intake manifold
CAI
17" rims and good tires
other minor mods
thats all i got out of him

My mods:
aftermarket 350 (was a hunk of junk)
Edelbrock camshaft (kinda pu$$y, i'd give you the specs but my brother cleaned my car and threw them away) its pretty mild, better than stock tho
Weiand Xcelerator Intake manifold
600cfm 4barrel carb

4 speed auto 700r4
3.73

bald tires

I'm going to get a much larger new air filter
I'm setting up a custom ram air that should work great
Getting new plugs (i know it doesn't add anything, but i'm sure i'm losing power because of the bad plugs)
i will also clean up my carb and possibly some of my intake manifold.
i wish i could get tires but we race of the 13th so i won't have time so i'll be running on bald tires, i've got my launch down so i don't spin a ton but i can only launch at 1/4 throttle, tires would definatly help.

What do you guys think? What would the race look like? We will prolly do a couple digs and a roll or two.

sorry about the novel lol, i just had some time so i thought i'd find out what u all think

just found out that he has 4:10 gears

You should be making at least 240-260hp, while he probably is making probably still under 200hp. Why race on a dirt road? Kinda dumb isn't it? No traction. Whoever hooks is going to win..... anyways if you hook, you for sure..... You should kill stang boy.... stock those POS ford 3.8's made 150hp... HAHAHA That truck of your friends would probably beat him still, hahaha

Naw i just live on a dirt road, we don't race on it, its just cause of the dirt road that my filter got clogged. We are racing on a deserted flat stretch of road. We don't street race a lot but we don't have a track around here. so we are safe about it when we do. A 2000 cavi is joining the fun as well, and my friend is bring his truck.

Re: 84 z28 350 vs modded 1996 3.8L mustang

We are suppose to race today after school, but i swear, my luck is horrible.

Yesterday the power wire that goes to my electric fan got cut/came undone. Not a big deal right? just reattach it and go along my way, its happened before cause it was half a$$ed, so i did it right this time. problem was i left the manual switch in the ON position when i went to hook the battery up, melted the whole power wire all the way back to the switch and some of the ground wire if i'm not mistaken. I have everything necessary to fix it except for a new switch, i just hope to god it didn't ruin the switch.

Only problem is i'm in school and we were suppose to race right afterwards, i drove the car here this morning cause it's cold enough it keeps the temperature down, but i'm going to get out of school a bit early and try and fix it.

Turns out a 92 Lumina z34 is joining us along with me, the stang, the silverado, and the cavi. ive taken the z34 by 4 car lengths before so i'm not worried about it, and the silverado, the cavi is quick and the guy is pretty secretive on what he does to it, and he knows how to handle the 5 speed. We will see how it goes, i'll post after the race, just thought id update.

So it turns out that the kid with the mustang didn't even have it running, it was suppose to be done after school. the idiot has all the 'performance' stuff on it and no tune. he said it started up but was running like ****, no duh. stupid people annoy me. sorry i'm ravng a bit, i'll stop. i told him to find me when it runs (by that time i'll have tires and ram air). then he said in a month or so he's ganna have a supercharged motor out of a thunderbird, but i'll have headers, how do you think that will go?

The most he'll be pushing on a stock 3.8 SC will be just over 200hp, again still another pathetic V6 Ford motor.... Should still win. He's not gaining much over the motor ha has.... maybe 50hp MAX.... and on top of that all the work to swap it... if he does the swap he's an idiot. Waste of time if you ask me. But of course its cool to hear a whine, but not cool to hear a whine and still have a slow car. HAHAHA

230HP and 330TQ if i'm not mistaken lol. headers should add 25-30 HP and similar torque for me, good tires should let me hook, i personally don't think he stands a chance...

and ya, he's definatly swapping the motor, he already has it, something about waiting for a couple more parts to come in before he gets started, i think he's ganna frick it up pretty bad

P.S. If anyone knows ANYTHING about heater blower motors and how they run, can you help me out? i have a post in the electronics section, (under..."I really need help...") anything you have to say would be appreciated! thanks

I'm glad noone thinks the 3.8 has any potential here. The windstar heads are an upgrade, not much, but still an upgrade.

If done correctly the SC can be a lethal thing.

I have seen 10-12 second 3.8s, some in 4000 lb cars as well. Any and every motor has potential, with the right person owning it.

Aw, LS7 madnass, i use to have that lol, and you know if you ever got a z06 it MIGHT stay stock for the first couple of days, but after that you'd want more power. you admitted once it is satisfying beating a newer/more expensive car lol

It is satisfying, but I also know that in the end the newer/better car has much more than mine can and does have. Which made the Vette very tempting. Sad thing is, I am approved to take a loan out for one...

Yikes!

true true, but with 75grand i could build my Z into the fastest, nicest looking, best sounding thing on the street, inside and out. that much money you could do most anything to a third gen, then again it takes work, where as with the Zo6 you just have to sign some papers lol.

They do, but you also have to be approved, meaning you have to make enough money, and prove to them you could easily make the payments. It's actually not as simple as it used to be!

quite right, not to mention you have to have a job for like 6 months before you can even apply, and have to have good credit, especially for a 75-77 thousand dollar loan!

You would be amazed, speaking with a real estate agent, peoples credit scores have plunged big time. She was telling me, she has been more 500-600 scores then 700-800 by a huge margin.

I don't doubt it, i have seen more and more repo'd (sp?) cars lately where people can't make the payments. things are kinda going down hill, good new though, i heard GM backed out of a 2B dollar loan, said they didn't need it, thats what i heard though, don't know for sure...

Re: 84 z28 350 vs modded 1996 3.8L mustang

The Chevy dealer near me claims they did well last month, but I figure with the rebates, 10K off their trucks, and the fact the only other close ones went out of business... they have to be doing well, if anyone wants a new chevy!

My GF was going to buy one, but drove some other cars and was sold on something else.
