Another mustang vs Iroc thread
My buddy has a mustang gt.2004 I think it is.Its the year the gt could get a factory equipped Borla exhaust system that exited out the side in front of the rear driverside tire.He has the borla exhaust, cold air kit and 5 speed.Mine is 350,unported tpi, built 700r4 w/2500 stall,3.42`s,and stuff in sig.VB garage has full list of mods.I think it would be close. What yall think?

Yeah,I think his car was rated at like 285 HP,IIRC.He keeps talking smack on how he will destroy me.I dont think he will destroy me.I`ve driven the car.Its nothing really special. He doesnt really know what most of my mods are much less their benifits.Iwas thinking it would be a drivers race.

Re: Another mustang vs Iroc thread
I think you have a chance. From what I've looked up the 04 GT should run 14 flat stock. Stock your Iroc should be around 14.6,but with your mods you could easily be in the 13's with good traction.

Not sure what year Mustang came with "factory" side pipes. I'm pretty sure none of them ever did, as why would Ford at the factory, put on aftermarket parts?
Either way his should be low 14s, possibly high 13s stock, add in some exhaust and a CAI and he should go high 13s. Your car should be similar.

Re: Another mustang vs Iroc thread
If you shift your gears and tach it out instead of letting the trans do it, it will help you off the line. just pull it down into 1st, stage, drop the hammer on him, then redline it, bump second, redline it, then drop 3rd (D), then 4th (OD) . iv'e done it before and it works. Just be careful NOT to hit N! Thats the best way to get somebody. at least off the line. I just bump the shifter with my palm to keep from going to far.

If the transmission shifts itself at the optimum point (not always "redline") why even bother? This is only necessary if the transmission is shifting too soon. Without a dyno graph or track practice, your never going to know where that RPM is. I say for the time being let the transmission do it for you, if/when you know exactly where to shift, and have a tach that reads correct (almost all older tachs read wrong, mines 1000 RPM off when I shift it) then possibly do as described here.

Tach it out? I guess I don't know all the "car terms" out there...

unless youve done a TPI to LS1 swap, theres no need to shift it yourself. put it in "D" and be done with it Supreme Member

Re: Another mustang vs Iroc thread
typical gt mustang fanboy, think they can destroy any 3rd gen. or camaro for that matter.
its the quiet dudes with the stock looking fox bodies, u gotta watch out for.
usually the mod motor gt owners are always the smack talkers.
at least in my case.
at a meet,i had some jerk letting me know how bad he would beat my ss, since he had mach1 with bolt ons, and that my ls1 should only put around 310 to the wheels and thats because i had a exhaust?
LOL!, my ss has a 490rwhp 375ci lsx.
long story short, took his money, made him look bad in front of his homies. mustang boy became very quiet and left after that.

Any Mach 1 owner needs to tread lightly with an LS1. Even though the Mach1 stock for stock is close, and bolt on for bolt on is sort of close, don't just judge and LS1 because it doesn't have a power adder, BAD idea.

Serves that guy right. No matter what you own, your attitude speaks miles for whether I like you or not.

I think you're the second Ford guy I've ever met to say something remotely nice about a Camaro!!!

Just in case, because I know this will get brought up again, I'm not gay, looking forward to posting pics of the gf and I with my Camaro this spring! She might even get to drive it.
Back to the topic.
I think the Iroc will take him. Those GT's are rated at 303bhp, and 275rwhp, in other words, comparable with the LT1. I'd say with the lighter ThirdGen, you should take him. Mustangs are pretty heavy.

If I'm not mistaken, the 700R4 will not shift into overdrive from third under full throttle? How can you trick it into shifting?

Opps, read it wrong... I thought it was an '05... L98 Iroc-z curb weight = 3,720. '04 Mustang GT = 3,317... wow... Ford has the advantage here! I didn't think ThirdGens were that heavy, someone told me they were around 3,300.

LS1 swaps are becoming more common in the fox bodies, simply because they are easy to make work at the track, and a lightweight high powered LS1 is a badass motor to run!

Re: Another mustang vs Iroc thread
As stated it was a Borla exhaust sytem.Asked him about it again and he said it was done at the dealership.where he bought the car which he worked at when he bought it.It actually exits in front of the driverside tire through the ground effects.Doesnt look like anything I`ve seen come out of an exhaust shop.
For the record I`ve wieghed my car with me in it(190 lbs),a cooler full of drinks and Ice in the trunk with a toolbox and tools in the back.Atleast 50 pounds there.I did it at work one day when my work truck was down.My 87 Iroc tipped the scales at 3550 lbs.
My friend said his was rated at 285 FWIW.I dont know for sure.Mine calculated from an old 1/8th mile run was approx.275-285 FWHP.But that was with stock stall, stock trans and 2.73 gear.I`v`e since upgraded all that and am porting a tpis lower manifold to some mildly ported slp runners with 24#injectors.However my third gear just started slipping at bout 90 mph so may not know for a minute.

That Mustang and the thirdgen should weigh the same... Also an 04 GT is rated at 260 fwhp and about 225-230 at the tires.
