hell my car last year couldnt go WOT til 35-40mph anyway and 50mph on the bottle. Race from 45 on to 100 is usually good
Stock L98 could get the jump on me to 60 but by then i'd be blowing past. Things like this can happen on the street or track being on street tires

Eh, like they say "anything can happen on the street". I'll give ya a "good kill".
I've certainly beat a few cars on the street that I should have lost to.

Re: 09 Cobra vs 92 z28(third gen wins)

I'm glad to hear a story about our 80's cars ACTUALLY competing with newer performance powerhouses and winning. I don't understand why the hell everyone has to automatically shoot down a race and just add to the stereotype that thirdgens are turdgens. Its really frustrating to go to the race section and read "Camaro vs Accord" or "Trans Am vs Camry" or "Firebird vs scooter" and its even more frustrating for people to automatically doubt a thirdgen Camaro or Firebird can beat Cobra's, LS1's, GTO's, Vipers, Ferraris, etc. I am a gearhead and do know and understand facts. And we know your ironduke Camaro is not going to take on the ZR1, but hey, maybe its boosted to 50psi with a 1000hp shot of nitrous and maybe it will. Its sad to automatically assume all other cars/thirdgens are not fast because your thirdgen isn't fast. This story seems to be a bunch of misinformation misinterpreted. The heads aren't completely known and neither are all the mods...and the race WAS NOT 1/4th mile....a race is a race as soon as that light turns green...[end rant]

Nice sounding car. The video with the bored almost nagging sounding g/f telling you your arm was in the way cracked me up.

You raced to 70 and had 2+ cars on him, when he had DRs and also tossed some heat into them before the race???
Just checking.

25th does the GT500 come with IRS like the Termi cobras did or solid axle? Also do they have a cobra emblem on them cause the cpl ive seen did but i figured it might have been an aftermarket emblem...

last few i seen also had the cobra emblem on the front grille. I beleive they all have them, and hence why some refer to them as a cobra

... Yea sometimes stories aren't believeable which is why I keep them to myself... honestly though the toughest car I've faced was a bmw(no clue on year or make but man would i liked to have talked to that guy)... rolling start at 35 but wow he kept up he had a supercharger or a turbo i could hear it I still won but none the less best race I've had yet...
Look forward to seeing what happens with your Z28...

Oh and PS the reason my dad asked about your car was cause he was actually curious about the miniram. I don't see that as pumping you for info
Actually he had an interest in the miniram we had about a 40 minute convo about it tonight. Had you actually talked to him instead of being not nice about it is what I got from it he might have learned something and you might have to. We are nice people, I just don't get all the need for all this hate, its sad actually. EDIT: I want to add I ran a 04 to 06 Mustang GT tonight.... this guy drove like an idiot we had traffic in front off us and everything and he was just stupid weaving in and out and all to prove to his gf he could out run me which he didn't. I had a big *** semi in front and well I'm not going to split onto the shoulder. After the speeds we were at he should have just let the hell off safety first people.... Organized races on a road where you have friends camped out at each end are great for a quarter it just has to be safe which is why i'm going to throw up the bs on every race you run is 1/4 a mile.....
EDIT #2: The weaving was after I breaked and he was in my rear view never seen someone drive so stupid.... I mean hell I breaked he was at least 4 cars back but felt the need to gun it after it was over and we caught traffic.... 2 lane highway weaving in and out he could have hurt someone stupid as hell... But I suppose it made him feel better.

I wasn't insinuating thats how you raced, thats just how I grew up racing.
And when I get a PM from some random guy that says "Nice car whats it run" it makes me wonder lol
FWIW my car drives as if its showroom new. It was a little low on torque but the new 4.11 gears definitely help with that. As far as the highway, its a bullet. I recently raced a Mercedes SLK55 AMG and waxed it 0-100 and like 40-120. The SLK is a mid 12 second car, so I was happy. Miniram definitely loves high RPMS

Re: 09 Cobra vs 92 z28(third gen wins)
but seriously, good kill. Chalk one up to 12 years of hard work and a killer port job haha. Not to mention a nicely selected camshaft. Somewhere along the way people forgot that more lift doesnt always equal more power, especially on the L98 heads. Isnt it only like a 1-2 cfm gain from .4 lift to .5 lift on those things? All about the duration baby haha.
Oh boy im just talking out my rear end...lol im done. Again, good kill.

Re: 09 Cobra vs 92 z28(third gen wins)
He never said he had L98 heads in anything I read, All he said was "Stock" heads. And I asked many times which heads were on the car and I never got an answer. Obviously from the pic's they are late model heads and thats all we really know. The more I think about it, the more I realize it really dosent matter if he did or didnt. He's not running me on my streets so when I looked around I realized I couldnt find my "Shive-a-Git". If its real Great job! If not We will never now and it wont affect our lives either way!

Re: 09 Cobra vs 92 z28(third gen wins)
to clear things up a bit,
the '09 gt500 is technically more correctly called a shelby, BUT, my gf's dad who has a 25th anniv '03 supercharged cobra and a '08 gt500 shelby refers to both as cobras, more specifically, his supercharged cobra's.
if you have ever actually ridden in one, you know that they are fast cars and dont joke around.
his has street tires, a smaller pully (more boost) and the special SVT chip that unleashes 100 more hp over stock
**more on this later**
ive ridden with him and he can go from second gear at 15 mph, up to 100 (still in second) and back to zero all within around 800-1000 feet.
its actually scary.
anyway, enough about that.
**about the chip**
apparently, the computer and engine is the same from the gt-500 and the ford gt (new version of the gt40)
what ford did was give it the same engine, but detune the computer so that the gt would still be top dog.
that is until this year when the KR came out, and beat the gt's power output with the same computer and engine.
i find it hard to believe you beat a gt500. they are pretty quick cars, but knowing you only raced to about 80 makes it more believable.
that and the fact that anything in the rear view mirror looks far away when you are racing.
i would guess you only really had about half to one length on him, maybe less.
the point is you won and you are happy about it.
good job

Re: 09 Cobra vs 92 z28(third gen wins)
Any healthy 383 should beable to hand a shelby its *** if its a stock car. But I think in this case, a longer race would have shown the shelby on top, unless his car is truely faster than what I put it at. Wont know til i see some time slips. I just dont see ported stock heads and that cam making more than 360whp which is not enough to take down a Shelby in the 1/4 but could make things interesting in a short burst thats for sure.
On stock heads, you still gain air flow from .4 to .5. 1.6 rockers are proven power adders on stock heads and bring cam lift from .415/.430 to .442/.459. Over .500 tho you dont gain much on stock heads, infact you may see flow numbers drop off on a bench. However with a proper port job, the heads should beable to flow to .550 so with a cam with mid .400's lift, your leaving power on the table still.
I assume this car is on stock L98 Iron heads but who knows. Either way stock L98 irons are one of the better stock heads available I think. You can get 240-250cfm out of them without too much work on stock size valves. 270 is the best i've seen with extensive work and larger valves.

Bro Im a junior member and currently have a 305 u said something about a 350 in the back of the garage? You willing to sell it?
The race seems real so bravo on a Gt 500 kill!!
I've seen some crazy things like my buddies Camero SS losing to a 91 Mustang Lx with 245rwhp and slicks at the Drags (Josh's Camero stock no slicks) daily driver! But But Josh killed him on the I10. Thats why I definitely Believe a 383 with Stealth Ram can Kill a 500 in a straight line race! On the interstate it might have been Diffrent. Bravo!

Guy I know had an 86 Gt with "COBRA" in big 6 inch letters across the back bumper of his car. After all they made SO MANY 86 Cobra's!LMAO. his body guy bondo'ed the rubber bumpers to the fenders and 1/4 panels then used a cut off wheel to put a grove where they met to make it look like he didnt bondo over them! LMMFAO!! You'd have to know it, you'd have to have seen it. Same kid I bought my 88 from, the one with the painted back window cause he couldnt afford tint!UGH!!! and so much more he had butchered on the car!to much to list in this post. Plus I tried to write it all up in another post twice........but something always glitched and I lost the story. LOL

I met a kid with an 08 Shelby and offered to race him in my 83 Z28 with a basic 350sbc. I don't think the kid can drive well, so I'm hoping to at least hold somewhat close.

My favorite was a kid back home with a Civic that he rattle can painted the engine Bees *** yellow. And threw on HUGE neon lights under the car. Then proceeded to tell me that by painting his engine he made more power by keeping heat in it and that the Neon lights under his car made him faster by reducing the weight of the car by...get this...lifting it...because Neon is lighter than Air....Yeah lol.

Re: 09 Cobra vs 92 z28(third gen wins)
K so I have been reading this post for far to long not to put my 2 cents in. First off nice win, nice car. Cars like that are what keeps me sending the cable bill in late, while trying to squeeze a dollar out a dime. My project is slow going. Will ever feel done with it?
I did get a ecstatic complement tonight from a guy looking my car over like it was a naked stripper. Was nice to know I wasn't the only one that felt good about what I have been doing for the last 4 years. Some guys (like me) are just not happy with things thrown together or paying someone else to do it. You think its good, try it out then find faults. So the car gets ripped apart again.
I also know that no matter what I race, I feel pumped and ready to talk about it. Dude was just feeling good about what his car did and wanted to share a real story about his labor of love paying off. My dad has a 86 mustang gt that was mine before I gave it to him for being a good dad and helping me over the years. He loves to drive fast cars. In fact just the other day he sent me text about killing a rice rocket. Thought it was in the stang, but no it was in his saturn 4 door stock pos. He was pumped and going on about it like a kid. I thought It was a lil over the top but none the less, its a good point. A race is a race. It makes you feel good to win.
For dude that was bashing for a street race only going 70-80mph. Dude r u crazy? If he pulled harder then he won. Its not a track its the same street that kids walk down why would you encourage him to hit your mother while she was driving, or walking down the road? I say mother cause my mother, and my aunt was walking, or riding a bike when they where hit by a car and killed.
Good win man. Hope we can all be a lil more open minded before starting the drama. We could have all found out the end resault a lot sooner, and I would not have had to read about pointless crap all night. Like this post I just added lol.
