240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

okay so this race has been a long time coming an its about ready to happen. its my 305 w/ exhaust, fresh tires, plugs an wires, basic tune up stuff. (i also have a 50-150 shot of spray that only my two best friends know about.) verse a 240 with a turboed sr20. its lowered, gutted interior, full exhaust with no cat. the usual hacked up import but with a couple bells an whistles. this thing is like riding in a go-kart....but bottom line its pretty quick. i dont know to much about it cause i dont really ask him about it. just some kid in my school. kind of a d*** but whatever. haha, an im no expert about my car either so im not gunna pretend like i am. im only 17 myself...... i was just wondering what you guys think would happen. to me its seems real close but honestly i dont kno whats gunna happen. heres some pics of what im up against

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

seems like a pretty decent setup he has. But you have to remember his motor doesnt make a whole lot of power till the top of the rpm range, and if he is stupid he will run it on the limiter till the arms drop causing tire spin like crazy. If your car is an auto bring it up on the converter but dont spin the tires and roll into the throttle dont just mash the pettle, this will almost guarentee you dont spin the tires. use the spray only if you have to, so if you run again he wont know.

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

since his car is probably 800lbs lighter than yours im pretty sure he will take you in the long run. i had a mild 240 non turbo a long time ago and it was faster than my old 89 305. but who knows. depends on the driver also. taking to a track?

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

we both have stick cars. so i feel like a lot of this race will depend on the drivers skill. an he knows a decent amout about his car an what it can do. i doubt he'll be bouncing off the limiter. an no i dont think were taking it to the track. theres a road in our town with no houses or anything on either side an its about a mile long. i think they were gunna build a developtment on it but never did.... idk, but its pretty awsome. an the nearest track is about 50 minutes away from where we live. (its raceway park in nj) an yea, his car being so much lighter is deffinatly a huge advantage too....

haha im planning on it..... its gunna take more than a stock 305 to beat a turboed sr20. ill be sure to take a video of the race so you can see how badly i smoke him haha, ive also got a 300z and a turboed s14 lined up for this spring too. id be really impressed if i get all 3 of them. this 240 is the fastest for sure so if i beat him ill probly get the 300 an the s14.

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

whats a 50-150 shot of spray? is it 50hp shot or 150hp shot? because one or the other can be the difference between winning and loosing. But without juice, you're toast...

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

well i got three sets of jets when i bought the nitrous. 50, 100, 150. i usually just leave the 50 in cause im pretty safe with that one as far as like the possibility of something going wrong with my engine. ive used the 100hp jets twice an they seemed to work fine. ive never used the 150 jets yet. ive only have the set up for about two months. im a little nervous cause i dont really have the money to fix my car if anything goes wrong. ill probably put the 150 in maybe this weekend or next weekend to see if it works well. if so ill use them on the 240.

Sadly agreed, he has a lighter car, closer gear ratios, and depending on the turbo, making a little more hp than you. The one thing you have he doesnt is torque, but unless you know how to use it, it can kill any chance of winning

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

If you're car is running solid with no problems (maybe lower miles) you can run a 150hp, but what is generally "recommended" as the highest you should spray on a stock LB9 is 125shot. I ran many passes with 125hp shot without a problem on my LB9...

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

If it's a turbo setup in the 240 your basically done. The only way you'll win is if he blows the engine or shifts extremely badly. Many of the younger import wannabe "tuners" tend to increase the boost of a turbo system higher than the stock internals can handle. If the guy knows what he's doing and the car is running well, your pretty well screwed. You'll need that nitrous just to save yourself from massive embarrassment.

Then again, as they say, "anything can happen on the street." The statement is often over used, but a fact none the less.

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

aww come on guys, your crushing my spirit.... haha, well im not to sure how much he knows but he dropped the sr20 in himself so hes gotta know a decent amount. at the same time its not professionaly done so the chance of something going wrong is higher i would assume. an the last time he had it dynoed it had 262hp. so well see. my best chance of wining is if he spins his tires an i get a good launch...... im gunna try an video the race so i can post it up.

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

definitely wouldn't underestimate him. a friend of mine had a sr swapped 240 that he used for drifting and the thing still handed a lot of muscle their a** in the 1/4. but like you and others stated its all going to come down to the drivers and how well the cars are setup ( mainly his ). just my .02. can't wait to see the vid though.

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

The sr20det ranges from 205 to like 245hp stock depending on whatever s13/14/15 the engine came from. this will be a drivers race if you use the juice, if not your toast. I say go for it just don't bet the farm!

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

Just kind of curious on the outcome here, did you get a chance to race him yet? or get a video? I know someone with the same car who says he can take me too, he says he has over 10-15k in mods, but we have had 2 chances to race and both times he stayed in the parking lot. i dunno.

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

Hes going to take you for sure. Did he dyno and make 262 to the wheels??? Because thats a lot for a light car. My freinds 240 makes 280 to the wheels and he hangs dead even with my bro's roush supercharged stang that made 350 RWHP, and that is a FAST car. Try it man and see how you do, but I honestly don't think you have a chance.

Re: 240 vs 305 iroc. any predictions?

If it was me, and I did lose, honestly I wouldn't be TOO upset about it. If I was to buy an import it would probably be a nissan. 240's 300 and 350z are nice cars, and the 240 for some reason reminds me of camaro/firebirds, just the body shape I guess. But either way, race for fun, weather or not you know you can win. I'll race anything, lambo? vans? lol. just for fun. and I really wanna race a corvette, even though I don't think I'll win, I just wanna know how I stand up against it. It's all in fun. good luck
