84 T/A vs. 03 Nissan Altima
I was wondering who would win in a drag race. My car is about no stock drive train components, so I'll tell you about my car first.
ENGINE: 79 sbc 350. (it burns a bit of oil when cold but it runs alright) edelbrock 600 carb, Holley street dominator intake (its dual plane style), flexalite (not electric) fan, dual core radiator, and best of all, its cammed. I don't know the exact specs on the cam, but it's enough to be a pain in the *** at intersections and such when its cold, and it has a loopy idle. The rest of the engine internals are stock. Oh and it will have a new air cleaner. I am hoping on having a butterfly valve scoop, but i don't know if I will have the cash.
DRIVETRAIN: 72 TH-350 with a B&M shift kit, into a stock second gen driveshaft, and the stock limited slip 3.23 rearend. Right now it needs tires desperately, and won't pass inspection without them. So I will have new tires for sure. I wanted to get new rims, but now its looking like I'll be using the 14x7s it came with. I might be able to borrow some street slicks though...
EXHAUST: Heddman jet coated headers into the stock y pipe, stock cat, out a flowmaster cat back dual system.
I was planning on getting a y pipe, getting a new cat, and installing a cut-out before the cat and mufflers.
There's more mods but I think thats all that would affect the out come of a race. Weight is probably about the same as stock.
As for my freind's car, its a four door 2003 Nissan Altima. I think its an 03. (I asked her what year it was she was like, I don't know but its old- I'm like thats not old my car is 26 years old...) Anyway, its bone stock. I rode in it only once and it was pretty fast, enough to be competitive anyway. So here are some of the specs from KBB.
3.5 L V6
HP: 245 TQ: 246
standard axle ratio- 3.79
curb weight 3246
Her parents gave her that car and they buy all the gas and stuff too. I paid for my car and its mods myself. She challenged me by saying that hers was faster... but we haven't had a chance to really find out. My car is going to be the fastest its ever been this spring, so thats when it will go down. I want to stand up for the fact that I bought it myself, and prove the T/A is better once and for all!
So, who would win this hypothetical drag race? Also, what HP do you think I'm making? Thanks

Well I races my friend 84 Z28 against my 04 altima. I gotta say that I was winning him the entire time. But I can't be sure on it. His camaro wasn't doing the passing gear so in fact it wasn't a fair race.

Whats it got for heads? Casting numbers? The late 70's early 80's cars were all emissions motors and it KILLED hp. A cam can have a loped idle but not make any hp so its hard to tell you. I can't tell you for sure, we need more info....

It has stock heads as far as I know... the engine swap was done before I got the car. The engine was pulled from a 79 Jimmy. I didn't go crazy on the cam because its a street car, but it shakes when it idles. I can visit the shop that did the work and ask for the cam specs, if that will help. I looked up a dyno near my house and the cheapest option is 3 runs for $100, which I can't afford at the moment.
Re: 84 T/A vs. 03 Nissan Altima
hows about you throw on a set of MT street slicks with wheels and pull out of the hole like an 11 sec car lol, youll win for sure cause theres no way a nissan is going to hook like that, and by the time she would even possibly catch up, youll be going too fast for the street to want to continue to race anyway lol

im pretty sure you got her exepcially from a dead stop. does she actually know how to race? if not she'll probaly just stomp it from the dead stop and spin like mad.

aw man, sorry but i really think the altima has this one. those things are fairly quick. and for everyone that said you would be better racing from a dig need to remember more than likely the altima has traction control and on top of that they really arent slouches from the start either. good luck either way.
Re: 84 T/A vs. 03 Nissan Altima
3.5 engines in the Nissans are impressive for a V6, from my own personal expierence. I would bet on the Altima.
Turning OFF the traction control will give the Nissan more power.

Re: 84 T/A vs. 03 Nissan Altima
Im going with the altima if the owner can drive it. Those 3.5Vq motors are strong. And dyno around 215hp. With a good driver and a manual, they will do low 14's stock. It's the same motor thats in the Z.
You have a smog era motor; low compression (7.3:1) most likely, and your heads aren't going to be good either. But you do have a cam, intake, and exhaust. However you are running a Th350 with 3.23s. First gear in the Th350 is 2.52. Guys that run the 350 use 4.xx gears minimum to get it moving.
But race and have fun, just be careful. If you win, that's awesome, if you lose don't worry, those altimas are quick.

I bought a 2007 Maxima, and I am really impressed with the performance. I guess they dont call them "4 door sports car" for nothing.
Not like the old 11 second Formula, I used to own, but, everytime I mash the pedal, it puts a smile on my face.

almost all the new midsize and compact cars put up a good fight with our older cars.
Our 07 Cobalt SS puts a hurting on my 88 Formula.
