IROC Vs. CONQUEST

ok, i have an 86 iroc with a 350 L98 and 700r4. this kid at school thinks hes hott **** and wants to race me. he has a chrysler conquest (ugly lil thing) wit the mitsu. engine and turbo, i think hes running low 14s right now. just need some advice on how close the race would be considering hes a 5 speed and im auto. thanks alot!

Yeah, and if your car is anything like your name suggests, 86 sport coupe (lol that must suck), well if its a stock 86 sport coupe you sure as hell dont want to thing that your "Hot sh*t". But seriously, usually a good tuned 350 runs mid to high 14's.

Actually, I'm not sure about this but didn't the 350 come out in '87 and not '86? Are you sure you don't have a 305? That would be worse yet.

He said he has 350 TPI L98(did a swap?)...but that alone wont get you in front of that Conquest. What is your gearing? Is it on highway gears?? Does the guy seem to know what he's talkin about? Maybe he's running 14.9 and rounding down. If he is running a true low 14's...you might not have enough to beat him...unles he's a crappy driver.

hey thanks for opinions...yes my car started out as an 86 sport coupe (cringe). But i added iroc gfx, iroc nose, iroc exhaust, iroc rear with 3.73 gears, and yes i swapped in a 350 TPI L98 from an 89 iroc. No real mods yet tho since i just finished it. hope this specifies some things.

Not at all will a 350 TPI run low 14's stock, sorry.

Anyway, do some free mods, get synthetic oil, a nice tuneup, afpr, port your plenum, and if you can toss in some underdrive pulleys. I think your gears may be a little high for your stock engine but maybe not, my friends L98 gutted MAF and tuned up car is as fast as mine w/3.27's. It should be close since you have 3.73's, do those free mods and you should have him for sure.

haha why didnt i just buy an IROC? cuz i got the sc for $400 and turned it into a beautiful black IROC for only $1000. O and the insurance company still thinks i have a 6 in it which is good since i live in Jersey and im 17. anyways...i was thinking of getting a stall converter, somebody on this board said they improve auto shifting very well. can someone give me some info on this? price, etc?

The majority of IROCs, 350 or not, are stuck in the 15s. Especially after being on the road for 11+ years. We don't live in an ideal world. Some people make the number but most people don't.
