according to a fellow member in the exaust forum,my exaust adds 15-20hp (its Headman shorties w/Borla cat back on a stock 305 HO). the 305 puts out 190hp stock..so,...theoretically that would put me up around 205-210hp. I'm not skeptical, because I already smoked a 4th gen 6cyl,before I replaced the engine!! this engine has 5k miles on it so mods will go a long way, even though it's still a 5.0 . what would be the most reasonable cost effective mod to continue to clime the horsepower ladder? I was thinking a cam (like a compucam 2030 or something) rebuild the Q-jet,intake.....something that will actually add power without defying the logic of saving up for an LS-1. I think it would be amusing if I could keep up with a stock L98 with minor smog legal mods. most rice "wanna-bees" already fall victim to the torque of my 3.73s. I'm working on tightening up the suspension and improving traction with Hotchkis & Eibach pieces.

i'd say headers, and a new intake, open element maybe or dual snorkel, and the exhaust.

got it all,K&N filter, air silencer delete, factory "ram air" air cleaner, headmen 1 5/8" shorty 4-1,2.5" high flow cat,Borla 3" catback. I'm planning a cam/intake swap as soon as I decide on a combo. how much over 200hp should that bring me?

Yea the exhaust sounds like a good mod for more hp. What I swear by though is "wieand".
I put an action+ manifold on my dads truck and gained 400 more rpm on the top end. That was with no tuning or any other mods. Ive talked to guys that did the manifold swap with edelbrocks and they gained nothing over the stock manifold. Action+ is a 50 state legal replacement 14hp gain is what they say.

Those 3.73's on your 190hp I bet actually hurts your cars performance right now. A cam and an intake would greatly accomodate the 3.73's. I would have went with 3.42's on a 305 as seeing as i had 3.73's on my old RS with headers/catback. It's too much for the weak 5.0's but once a cam comes into play that should give you a nice 15hp along with a manifold could help it breathe better maybe will give you 8hp. Don't go by hp tho, the cam/intake should drop you .3 in the 1/4
