Do you even bother?

Racing cars you know you can crush? I pulled up to a Lumina, 4 guys in it all revin at me. Needless to say I blew them away. Now that I think about it, I wasted gas, more wear and tear on my engine, just to show 4 stupid guys I could beat them?

I think im just gonna stick to people who will give me a good run.

If I'm in the mood I'll play. I'll toy with them for the first several seconds just pacing them, then I'll drop the hammer. I'll leave it down for a couple of seconds just to make sure they understand they've been spanked, then I continue driving like normal.

I've found that more often than not in complete blow-out situations (like your guys in the Lumina) they just want to see/hear you go. Take it as a complement. It's like one of us wanting to hear a NASCAR fired up and at full throttle.

Heh, I used to in my RS, but I don't even attempt. I'll just keep it in first and let em hear it and jump it then squeal into 2nd and thats it.

Even with my 2.77's I could blow guys off the line. I'd never race over 60, just enough that they could say they got spanked by a real car.

Try this one:
The other night on my way home from work, in my 300ZX, I was at a stoplight behind two other V-6 stormers, a Jeep Cherokee, and a Ford Explorer. They were revving for all they were worth, and I almost stalled trying not to tail-end one of them. Dopes. My T/A could have towed them faster.

The thing that gets me is you always see people in cars that don't look like they appreciate the car they are in. I pulled up next to a z06 on the highway and wanted him to take off so I could see a good show and he looked at me and I reved and HE BACKED OFF. I was like Jesus do you even realize what kind of machine you are in. Stupid people. Or the other night I saw this really young kid in a spankin new black maro ss. How do people like this get these cars. Oh and there is this old lady I see at my church that has a 2001 WS6 ram air, she is like 400 million years old and can barely get in/out, but I must admit, she is one bad *** looking grandma.

I do not own my car your enjoyment. I own it for mine. If I want to race I will if I don't then I won't. If I feel like cruising and some punk in a Corvette wants to race I doubt I would. Usually the faster the car the less the guy will race on the street.

Why beat your engine for someone else to see? You show 3 people a night what your car can do and pin it (While they drive there metro and know they'd lose) Then a worthy opponent wants to race and you cars crapped out because of showing what your car can do all the time. Just by looking at are cars they should know what it can do.

I CANNOT drive my car at night without someone wanting to race. Usually its v4 and crap cars. Not worth it. Now If a pony or another thirdgen'er wanst to race, thats a different story.

Atleast you get something back, a good race, and you also get to see what there car can do!

I once saw an absolutely beautiful 69 charger RT 440, was standing there admiring it, and this 80 year old man comes out, gets in and drives away.

Turns out, he bought the car new for his son, but, his son did not like it. He drove if for a while, and decided he DID. has had it since.

How exactly does your car get crapped out by racing it? Lack of maintenance is what'll kill a car, not driving it hard. My RS see's redline and fullthrottle on a very regular basis. It's at 225,000 miles and still running strong with no engine work ever done or needed.

There aren't any ricers where you live are there? Around here looks not only can be, they usually are deceiving. Besides unless you really know your F-bodies you can't tell the difference between an 18 second V6 or a 14 second L98.

I hear ya, except the cars that pull up to me and wanna race are so obviously slow and stock.

You got two engines that have the same amount of mileage. Both taken care of maintenance wise. One was well driven, and the other was beat to hell. Your telling me they both are still gonna put out the same performance?

"How exactly does your car get crapped out by racing it"

Didnt say that, Im down with racing, its cool. Just not racing 150 times a night against cars that just wanna see what your car can do.

"There aren't any ricers where you live are there?"

Of course there is. If a civic pulled up next to me id race him. (I hear they run mid 14's stock, dunno how true). But luminas and Cavaliers arent worth it.

Racing it often isn't neccesarily beating the crap out of it. Abusing the engine by redline it from a cold start or constant bad over-revving of course will take its toll on an engines performance. Like I said, I drive my car hard; I do frequent full throttle to redline runs and overall drive the car harder than 90% of people do. However I don't floor it from a cold start or take a 3 hour cruise at redline either. My car has over 225,000 miles of this driving on it, and a recent compression test gave me results that would be considered outstanding for a new engine. (195 psi in 6 of 8 cylinders, 190 in other 2) I see what you're saying though, I just don't think hard driving is the cause of engine failure, poor maintenance and abuse is...

What kind of Civics run mid 14's stock, I thought they ran at best low 16's, they're not fast.

I was watching a show though, took a civic, threw like cold air intake in it or sumthin and its 1/4 times were impressive.

The bench-raced kind you'll hear all the import guys bragging about. You'll never see a time-slip to back it up, but they'll insist it does it anyway. If you race them and beat them well, you must be driving a 13 second car. Seriously though they are 16 second cars at best.

EDIT: Last time I was at the street legal drags I watched a few turbo charged Civics pulling mid 15's.
