what do you consider fast now days?

I mean its a subjective question. But also relative to the times we live in.

I think something should run to 100 in less than 13secs and 120 in less than 20secs to really be considered fast.

some vehicles that currently qualify
01' lightenings
ls1 cars
some modified LT1s (not stock SSs).
Mercedes CL55
Jag XJR
M5
M3

No a lot of production cars exist that fall into this catagory.

car and driver lists the MB S600 as 0-100 in 13.1 and 120 in 19.3. That's nothing to sneeze at.

As far as street racing goes, U better have a 11 sec. ride or better, because most cars run 12-->(on motor or NOS) Just look at the LS1 cars - put a bottle on it and you've got an 11 sec car!

well i was more speaking of production vehicles (not modified). But, i tend to agree. Low 11s on the motor seems to be near the sweet spot.

Hey jcb999, do you ever go to Compass Bank Wed nights about 10 and hang out with all the street racers? I'll be back in College Station in about 1 1/2 weeks to go back to school and I try to go hang out there whenever possible. As for your question. 11s or low 12s are what I consider fast although some guys run faster on the street. I know of at least on of the guys down there that has a 10 second 4th gen Z28 that's his daily driver. It might be faster now if he finished putting his 400 in.

i have not been there recently. Most of the time they get there about 10 p.m. and that is near my bed time on weeknights. A couple of weeks ago the collegestation pd chased everyone off from the bank. The latest thing I heard was they meet at bestbuy now. But, the bryan folks hang out at the bryan hastings and get there a little earlier. I think I know some of the folks your talking about.. one of them has a black Z with a much modified (and sprayed 383) and i think there is a guy with a red Z that is putting a 396 in his (he said something about 9s on the camz28 board).

That should make things pretty interresting, I should have my 400 back in my third gen about that time. And, I have a few hundred lbs less weight than most of them 4th gens.

I didn't know that about the police, since I haven't been down there since May. Thanks for letting me know they meet at Best Buy now. The guy with the red Z is Tony Sheppard and is a great guy. If the black Z you were talking about has an orange roll bar, it belongs to another great guy named Scott. Tony cracked me up when he said his 10 second motor wasn't fast enough.

the black one i was talking about is jordons http://www.velocityracing.com/camaro/
but yea, tonys is the other. You said something about a 400. I thought he was working on a 396. Is it actually a LT1 taken up to 400?

A car that runs 12.0 in street trim is fast in my book. I'm not talking about a car that runs 12.0 on slicks, gutted interior (at the track), opne pipes... I'm thinking about a car that rolls up to the track, doesn't even pop the hood, and runs 12.0 the exact same way it was driven in. No tricks, no racer's prep, just run it.

I'm mildy familiar with Jordan's car. When I talked to Tony he had said 400, but he might have just slipped. I dunno.

Drove mine 40 miles to the track, rolled off a 8.17@90mph on street tires.(1/8mile) Traction was an issue though..

low 13s is quick, i raced an ls1 z28 once that ran low 13s and he just took off. not to many cars besides one mustang i know of that runs under 12s. i plan to hopefully make my NEW t/a z28 run 12s after like 3 years of paying it off. thats if they give it to me for cheap enough.

exactly. i think any car that pushes you back in your seat and accelerates nicely is fast.

8 and 9 second street cars are very common here in Detroit. Theres even one guy in a 4th gen convertible Trans Am going mid 9's, in a stock bodied, full interior, full rollcage 4200lb. car. It still has a CD player, power windows, locks, top, keyless entry, etc.

The average "fast" street cars around here runs in the 10's.

My high 13 car is a brick by comparison.

In missouri I'd say 13-12s is quick for street,no spray.A 9 second car around this way would get 100 tickets.Cops don't like racing slicks, nos, gutted emissions equip,no cat and those bars with wheels to keep the rocket from fliping on itself.8-9 sec is insane crazy fast.It would cost more money than most people I know make in a year. But if you got the means then rip it up.
