How often do people try to race you???+ cool double kill inside:)

I mean its ridiculous everytime I cruise around town or anywhere for that matter I get challenged, and not by people I would love to have a good honest race with, like a mustang, its always trucks or rice four door family cars even a minivan once, and I am not one to ever turn down a challenge so I smoke em everytime, but tonight was cool I was going to the movies with my gf and theres this 3 lane highway in the busy part of the county,I call it the strip cause its bacically the main strip through the county near the naval base, but I come to this light where its 3 lanes one on each side of me,on my left is a dark red late 80's/early 90's stock looking 5.0 with a guy and his girl glaring at me,and on my right pulls up a mitsubishi eclipse with stickers, wing fart pipe the stupid single yellow wiper,he revs at me and smiles, like hes got a chance,so the light turns green and we all nail it,3 cars screeched at the same time I shifted manually shifting into 2nd at 40 and took 2nd all the way to 75 then into 3rd,I left the eclipse at the light and beat the stang by about 2 car lengths..so basically I killed both my enemies..rice...and a junkstang so it was a good night and my gf was like...holy **** this cars fast...I just smiled and pressed the gas to hear my flowmastrs

Nobody challenges me around here ever since I upgraded to my Formula 350... maybe it's the decals on the side that scare them away, they probably think 350 means the horsepower

Damn, that sounds like a cool race, I wish I could have been there!!

Yea I never get challenged either.
I guess it is the lopey sound of the came when I sit at lights. ricers won't even look at me. the only place I can get someone to race me is on the highway cause people think, "Oh an old Thirdgen, no problem.". That's were my 2.77 gears work the best, hehe.

Sweet kill..hehe..And ya people try and race me alot which does suck sometimes since the majority of the people are soccer dad's trying to relive their muscle car days in the wife's minivan or camry. But I give them what they want. Although when I do go out on saturdays when I usually figure I can get the most races against some good domestic competition all the dam ricers want to race me. I guess it's because I have one of the slowest domestic cars out there (13.8..real slow)besides the stock camaro's and mustangs. It just plain out sucks sometimes because those dam ricers are no competition it just feels like a waste of my dam gas sometimes.

I don't get challenged much any more since I put the Ram Air hood on. It's (the hood )still in primer, so the car looks really tough. The car isn't as fast as it looks, but it's fast enough so the idiots dont want to have a go at it.

I"ve got challenged once. I was on the highway and a 2001 z24 felt he could smoke me ( I know its an LO3 but I know I can beat that). I think its because it just says Camaro on the bumper instead of Z28 or Iroc.. maybe they think I just have a 6 or something. I wouldn't mind being challenged ..by something of equal power.. I dont feel like going up against an LB9 or L98 etc

I don't get challenged very much either. I think it's the "5.7 Tuned Port Injection" badge on the bumper that does it for me. I tried to provoke a '98 GT with Cobra wheels yesterday, to no avail.

i never get anyone to race me, once in a while i will go cruisin lookin for ricers but when i do find them they usually dont wanna go up against me. even for an lg4 my car has really strong pull out of the box. when i do get someone wanting to race, its usually a car that will totally demolish me.

There's not much REAL competition around here... it's either something that I can beat or something that can beat me... there are two Camaro RS's on campus then probably 5 4th gen Firebirds, 3 4th gen camaros, a LOT of 4th gen v6 Mustangs and one Cobra SVT Mustang... Then there's the billions of Del Sols, Integras and Civics... and the double spoiler on the Eclipse... I am only threatened by the Cobra and the 4th Gens... the rest are driven by morons and I have yet to see any "fast" imports...

Almost lost sight of the question... I don't get that many races. I think my power bulge hood is an intimidation factor. When I do you can be 90% sure it will be a dodge neon... In fact it's so common, I don't even bother revving... I can just assume they will think that "it is on". I think my power bulge hood is an intimidation factor. I figure, if I just smoke them, they won't put up a fight and it saves both of us some time and fuel... If they do rev though, I'll respect that as they study my tail lights...

For the first 2 1/2 years of owning my IROC, (which incidentally, I purchased from an ad here!), I wouldn't get many races...but they would be satisfying. This is because I looked stock. Now, since I got my 3" cowl hood, hi rise spoiled and racing stripes, many people want to race me. It's just better now because it seems that people think I just spent the money on appearance (and flowmaster lol). The other night, me, my fiance and my future bro-in-law were at McDonalds getting ice cream cones and these three ricers were circling the block over and over and over again...with REALLY loud, annoying sounding exhaust. I was about to leave the parking lot, and saw them circle again...2 of them took off but the leader was still there at a light. I pulled up behind him in the turn lane, and we threw some revs at each other. He tried to pull hard away, but I half throttled it the whole time and more than kept up. FINALLY, we got a clear road and were lined up...guess what he does...he turns off VERY ABRUPTLY into a parking lot!!! What a wuussssss! I couldn't believe it. Obviously, there are guys out there who don't want to lose...I just dont' understand it. If I was a modded out Viper, I would DEFINATELY line up for fun!!! There are more than a handful of 11-12 second cars around here (esp. modded LS1's), and virtually no fast imports - I have lost once in three years to an import and that was in very heavy traffic, from like 30-40 mph. I have also yet to lose a race since I put my gears in - I cannot wait to put on my fully ported SuperRam on it!!!

I've gotten challenged twice on the street, one was a suburban (lol) and the other was a 2nd gen camaro... all they saw were my tail lights one race that was planned though was just for fun. Raced my friend in his 68 firebird that's pushin out 500 hp, he spanked me bad but it was still a fun run Got to drive his car last week, it was a real kick in the pants

This topic is ironic. I have done absolutely nothing to my 84Z (L69) cosmetically speaking. For the first 6 months I owned it, it was mostly stock, with just a few tuning adjustments and the emissions removal.

I just finished with the cam, intake, carb and upgrading the ignition system. Now it seems that just about every time I go out someone wants to race me....especially on the highway. In fact some guy in an Isuzu Trooper wanted to the other day. He looked real serious at first until I began to toy with him, pulling up next to him and then juicing it. I even did a 100 mph fly by. He eventually started to laugh about it.

Anyhow, since I modded the car, (exhaust in the next few weeks I hope), I get it all of the time.

Went out tonight to do some racing and on the way there, this little riced out Civic slowed down to like 45 in a 55... so ok, I get in the other lane doing 55 and he pulls even with me. Ahhh! well, just droped in second and punched it. All he was a spot in my rear view mirror

ever since my new hood, all these stupid ricers in intergras and rx-7's try to race me. One time at a stoplite this civic pulls up to me, with this kid and what appeared to be his grilfriend. so i look over and he is steering at me, so i shift into nutral and give him a rev. he revs back and points his finger forward, so its on. we both floor it, and i notice his car isnt fast at all, so i let off the throttle and i stay side by side, slowley i let him get a car lenth in front of me and i floor it. to bad i was looking at the road, because i would like to see the look on his face when i screwed by him. so at they next light he pulls again next to me . it was hallarius, his "girlfriend" was laughing and he looked realy pissed. so guess what happened, he starts reveing again. maby he thought this time he has a chance. so this time i just let him have it, and he had no chance, by the time we crossed the intercection he could already see my tailights, and i didnt let up. i think its safe to say that iff i see him again he will thing twice before he revs his 2 liter.

I'm just glad you people taught me a lesson in writing before I learned it the hardway. I don't underestimate anyone now. Used to be, if I saw an 80s- anything- I'd be like,"I can take this guy." I really need to get my olds finished and do some more work on the ltd, and I need to actually time them outright. As far as how often people try to race me...you would not believe it. An 85 ltd crown vic. What provokes them? It's just a theory, but I think competitive people can sense one another. People have gone by my house before an revved, pass me while I'm getting in my car in town. It's just an ltd people. If a viper showed up it would totally freak them out. But really I'm joking. I love the attention I get for some strange reason. The reason could be that most sports cars don't have as much to proove. Corvette- nuff said, we don't need a demonstration. Unless it's a stock 76.

I can't find anything good to race where I live. All that's around are riceburners. Hardly a 5.0 or Camaro to be found. Before I put the ehxuast on I was getting buzzed at by every damn ***** at every light. After putting on the headers, off-road h-pipe and the MAC mufflers now i can't even get a race with a *****.

Fine..i don't care.

For some reason I never get challenged either. I don't know why, it could be the SE stickers or the 2.8liter badge on the side, both are very scary. The few times I have had the chance to race 350's I have beat them because they turn off, they are definitly scared of the emmense beating thier car would take from the amount of rusted debries flying of my ride.

A lot of 5.0s try to race my AOD mustang, but don't want too mess with my dads 5-speed. One guy stuck his head out and asked if we wanted to run, I yelled back from the passenger seat, that we have the Nitrous on, and if you really wanna run we will arm it. The guy rolled up his window and took off very slowely. HEHE GOTTA LOVE NITROUS!!!!

I get that too all the time. I'll be out cruising and pull next to a stock 5-spd GT with some kids in it and they will be like "Automatic? PHHFFFTTTT! slow"

Yall won't be believe me...

I don't recall when it happend. I just compelted changeing the oil on the Firebird.
I got to test drive and see.

You may not know this, but there are is a good number of Viper owners here in Houston.

So I was at a stop light with regular traffic. Then I hear a this loud motorcycle exhaust. I was like, "where the hell is it coming from?" I look at my rear mirror and see a red Dodge Viper GTS. I was like cool..a viper. Then it pulls beside me and revs his V10. Jee..those V10s are loud! So the light turns green and he floors it. he was outta sight in seconds.

i guess he wanted to race me? Does that count?

I don't get many good races on the street and rarely are they even close. Usually I either obliterate the other car or the other car obliterate's me. The only close race I've had since the new motor was with a 5-speed GT.

At the track on the other hand...most of the cars in the points class I run in run between 12.70's and 14.20's. So time trials are usually pretty fun and with it being a bracket class, eliminations just about always come down to within a carlength or two.
