Re: Joined the Dark Side....

Wow, yalk about a old thread....

Personally i have owned both, the stang is only fast due to weight(thats whay in 89 the formula 350 owned the 5.0 fox). My camaro and bird feel like i am in a .357 bullet shell, i am the bullet, locked and loaded ready to kill a pony.

The stang, i feel like it is too loose, not under full control.

That is just me.....although i wouldnt mind a coupe with a 408 LSx stroker.

Not to mention you have to battle box a fox car to handle power, i dont have to do much to my F car, subframes cured my problems.

Funny all I did was subframes and my car doesn't feel anything like you described. Mine is also full weight with more weight tacked on. The "only reason it's fast is because it's light" is kind of odd to hear. No it's fast because it has potential to be fast, the chassis, motor, weight, everything. Can't see how you can take that negetively but to each his own.

Looks are subjective, I personally have never seen a thirdgen I thought looked better than my car, but I'm sure most feel the opposite way.

If I could throw money around I'd have fun with a thirdgen, but for a budget minded person who wanted to go fast, look good, and do it cheap the thirdgen was NEVER going to do that for me.

Re: Joined the Dark Side....

I owned a 1991 Mustang 5.0. Rolled it off showroom floor. Swore I would never own a Ford again. Biggest POS ever. Then in 1995 I purchased a 1986 POS mustang. It was cheap, and I needed trans at that time. AGAIN, swore I would never own antoher Ford. Picked up my first Pontiac in 1984. Purchased a Camaro (almost forgot about that one) 71, in 1986, swaped out engine for a 400 small block. DAMN! Then I had a slow *** 76 T/A. Looking back it proably had a clogged CC. Then I have my Third gen I got 3 years ago and the 2002 I purchased in July. I will say, all the money we spend to gain Hp, my wifes Trailblazer has 340 hp, stock.

The *** of those are too light, the metal used on them is cheap(saw a statement from for a while back stating so), they are lighter, thats why they were faster stock for stock till 89 with the formula, "potential" is the same with a third gen platform but better i feel, and as a past fox owner who has had something break every time i put my foot into the floor...yea, to each his own.

If you have never seen a third gen you liked better than your car, why do you even post where you have to look at them, or do you have a place in your heart for them?

I dont have money to throw around, i am SUPER buget minded, i have 2500$ in my entire car. My 89 is fast, looks good and looks good to everyone i know.

As far as the whole fox body deal goes.....everyone and their momma has one of those, and they all think they are the best thing ever, they are not. They wanna put exhaust and a GT40 intake on it and call it hot stuff. There are fast ones out there, but same with any. I love my car even more due to how many nice REALLY fast one you dont see out there. There are so many fox bodys out there, they are quick. Most 3rd gens are slugs after 60 feet unless it has a new motor or TPI which is where you are right on the money part, hence the reason i have a carburated car. But the fact is you can install a LS1 into a third gen now for cheap and KILL so many cars with not much into it that is makes the fox car look like nothing to me, but as you say, to each his own.

All in all, i would own a rustang if there was not GM cars in the world. A chevy 350 is cheaper to build than a ford EVER will be though.

Re: Joined the Dark Side....

Sorry you had a bad one, our 7 Mustangs have ALL been good, not to mention the few dozen we have owned in the past. Never been stranded anywhere, never broke other than when abusing it at the track (blew my rear end, you try rev limiter launches with slicks on a stock thirdgen rear, HAHA. mine lasted 5 years like this, the thirdgen would last about 2 passes, to give you an idea ). The thirdgen and fox are of the same quality and if you think anything other, not sure what to tell you.

I am of the idea that brand loyalty is weak, unless that brand is paying you to run their product. Ford doesn't pay me a dime, but I have been in 3 Ford magazines, have been in a photoshoot for another (5+ page spread) and have a spring shoot for another spread. I owe a little to the Mustang community as because of that I have people all over the country who knows the car and in turn have helped me out. This also goes into how many people own Mustangs. Your right TONS and thats because of how huge the following is. There are more Mustang related sites, magazines, books, performance shops, and clubs out there than any other car in the world. To think that doesn't mean anything... well then again, not sure what to tell you.

In the end I do like thirdgens, a lot. Will I own one, probably not, as the older I get the nicer I would expect my cars to be. Can't see me stepping backwards or sideways (however you look at it) for another performance car.

Oh well, to each his own, I like my car because I built it from nothing and enjoy driving it, showing it, and racing it. You feel the same way, which is where it's at in the end.

I just can't help it, if a LOT more people like mine over yours...

Nope, my car is heavier and i have lainched at 5500 RPM on slick and not had the 7.5 blow out. If it had a 4.10 gear, yea, the gear would brake eventually easily due to the ring gear size. Eventually they will break, but not instantly.

Really bores me how many people have those things, i love busting peoples but with a third gen becaus eit is a rarity, have you ever looked at the third gens driving around? They are ither joe dirt ugly, or pristine stockers. Mine looks deadly, but not a show car, i have no reason to have one, i will flip when i coume outside and see a dent from a ******* hitting it with the door.

I do like fox bodys, but not as much as i used to since they are held so high, as i said, some folks just act like they are gods gift to racing. Not to mention...you will push a gasket or blow one way before me due to 4 head bolts per cylinder rather than my 5. But thats just in extreeme cases usually, i have even sprayed a 305 for a year before it blew, that was only due to fuel pumpfailure(it happens...).

I like to be different, at a car meet, there will be 3-6 fox bodys, as to me being the only or one of 3 tops. Unless it is a TGO gathering of course.

Now......do i wanna do a SBC in a coupe fox body....or a 280Z...i still havent decided...

Oh yea, i think the 350 TPI cars woulda been gold with a standard trans, that is one thing that woulda swayed more to buy/have them when they were new.

Re: Joined the Dark Side....

Yeah see I have no problem when there are 5+ fox's, rarely is there one that looks like mine. Only seen a couple two tone ones, and with the wheels, stance and done up engine bay, not too many at all. There are a handful of decent thirdgens here, but I see a lot more thirdgens out now than fox's. For every one fox i see during the week, I will see 3-4 thirdgens. Seems the thirdgens have been left for daily beater duty, or ragged out "sports car" for the poor and non famous. In the summer some nice ones are out and about, but just not enough of them.

I actually love the fox following. We have a Mustang club with a couple hundred members, I go to Mustang week in SC with over 1000 Mustangs and Mustang owners, I race at events, been in the many magazines and get the waves and thumbs from everyone. Half the fun to me seems to be the following behind it.
