Beat by an old man!!!!
Beat by an old man!!!!
Ok, so heres the situation. I'm sitting at a light, and theres this early 90's Monte Carlo next to me. The driver had to be seriously 70 years or older. When he began to rev his engine, I thought he was having car trouble until he flipped me off! So I decide to ignore him and just drive on. At the green, we both start moving, and naturally I need to get a little ahead of him, but he keeps up! He had one hand on the wheel and the seat reclined untill he was about laying down, and he was racing me in what looked like his wife's car!!!! So we get going about 50 and I dump just to give the guy one last victory for his racing career. It was one of the funniest things I've ever experienced. I guess older people are still trying to find new ways to keep punks in sports cars off the streets, by Beating Them!!! Just thought I'd share that with you guys!
dont forget back in the day all those old people drove monster cube powerhouse cars, even granny's station wagon usally had a 454 or 455 under the hood, he probley thinks his new monte carlo is still like the older ones with a 454 under the hood

He flipped you off, that's just hilarious. And don't take old people lightly, they were young once too. My friend has a 65 Mustang that runs high 13's. He said one day he looked outside to see what all this noise was and his grandfather was doing burnouts in it.

yeah no kiddin' this girl I went to HS with, her dad is like that. Last time I saw him he told he how he raced this kid in a Ram and wasted him with his 5.3 GMC. 3 stop lights in a row a wasted him every time. @ the second light he did a burnout. granted, it's a full size truck, but it's got alot of snot. BTW he's darn close to his late 50's.

Actually if in his 70's he probably started out in straight six cars that could be bought for $25. Just ask my Dad. I'm 45 and some people think I'm an old man. But I still run 4 or 5 miles every week and next year I plan to be running the fastest times I ever ran at the dragstrip with the altered I just bought. Think I'll be able to handle it?
my dad bought his first car for $10 its a 1929 model T Him and his brother dropped a ford staight 8 into it and he said it would smoke anything around. just before he died he drove my 79 camaro, he had even me scared. worse yet he got into 3 races within a mile of each other and won them all.

back when my formula was still a 305 tpi I raced an old cross fire vette with an old man driving. at the light his wife kept hitting him as he reved it. it was funny(I beat him even though it was kinda close) then he pulled up next to me and asked if I had a 400. it was cool watching him smile while his wife was hitting him
You guts probably think I'm old at 51, but I have two street daily drivers that run in the 11's. A TTA and Mustang GT, I also have a 93 Mustang conv that has gone 13.87. I've been a long time racer and every chance I get, I try to beat people off the line when the traffic signal turns green. I've done it to mustangs and imports. I usually do this with my Tahoe. Can't wait to get the TTA back on the road so I can kick some serious butt.

... I think I've seen my father burn out once...I think. I remeber my father telling me a story of a guy he saw in a 68-69 vette. He said the old man was getting pissed and turned onto the road and proceeded to smoke them through all gears.------------------

my dad once scared the **** out of me
first day I bought the RX-7 and my dad being a whole 50 figured would not do that much just kinda run the car a little bit
well this guy had me pissing my pants when we drove..
in the middle of our sub-division he was pulling turns at 40-50 at 3 in the morning trying to get the car sideways. think he hit about 110 during some straight line run and raced some camaro that was playing around also...
all he said was nice car and handed me the keys with a little smile

We will all be old men one day, and I know I don't plan on changing my ways. Of course by then I'll have a car just a tad faster than this one, ahh wait a whole lot faster. Can we say 9 second street car. As long as college pays off I guess.

Some of those old-people cars are pretty fast.
The last of the Buick Roadmaster and Caddy Fleetwoods shared a chassis with the Caprice, and the 94-96 models could be had with the LT1.
Imagine getting a hold of Grandpa's old land yacht, and putting all of the go-faster parts in it. (blowers, headers, etc..) You could surprise a lot of people with it. I'd get a blown, LT1 Buick in light blue with fender skirts and a vinyl top. Wheee-Hee-Hee!

My 83' year old grandpa (and that was 4 years ago 87' now) raced his 92' Caprice (305 I think L03) against a 5.0L Stang on 465 around Indy. The Stang would have won but I think he was so Awestruck when he saw the guy beside him racing was so old he just shook his head and let off. hehe Funny Stuff!
(All of this while his Wife (79) and Sister in Law (81) were in the back seats. I think i'd flip if I saw that many old ppl racing me, heheh.

I was in my first Firebird which at the time was pretty much at its peak performance wise (down into the high 12's) and sounded sweet while running, The light turned green, he took off on me, I burried the gas pedal and left him like he was standing still... At the next light we talked and he was curious ad to what was under the hood. After I explained to him what had been done he felt a lot better. He couldn't belive that a stock car could have left him like that.
All in all, it was pretty cool having that exchange of thoughts with someone almost three times my age (at the time I was only 18). Iwill never forget this experienec.
By the way... How many of us here will be "That Cool Old Guy" who likes to do burnouts, run the 1/4 mile, and all the stuff we so now? I know I sure intend to be! Plus, we have to keep the American Muscle thing alive!

Back when I was a kid in the late 70s (yeah, I guess that makes me an old man now to some of you punks - and I mean punks in the best possible way
) my mom had a friend who asked if I'd detail her car for her. She'd been at the house one day when I was detailing my 1970 Firebird (dammit, shoulda kept that thing).
Anyway......I figure why not, I'll make a couple of bucks. So I go pick up her car at her place. Early 70's Oldsmobile Cutlass, and she tells me to take it easy 'cause it "has a lot of pep". The woman was 72 years old so I'm thinking "pep" is a relative term here. I'm trying to leave her neighborhood and traffic isn't cooperating, so I see a little opening and just nail it. I'm choking on tire smoke and the car is barely moving, so I back off the go pedal and let things hook up. I get home, pop the hood, and whaddya know. Here's this air cleaner about the size of a garbage can lid with big ol' red and black lettering on it: Rocket 455. Um, yeah, take it easy 'cause it "has a lot of pep". So'd that little old lady!

well, i guess once the muscle car fever is in you, there is no way to stop it.... probly at his age, he started hot rodding in the 40's and lived every minute of it. LOL
i know when i am older, i will enjoy my cars. maybe not so much on the street as i would now, but still crave speed. and would be out at the track till the launch breaks my neck!!

lol that reminds me of the other day when i was at a stop light just minding my own business in my 91 z28 350 tpi, and this guy that looks likes hes about 60 pulls up to me in a 90 ish impala ss, with the LT1. I didn't really think anything of it at first, then dude starts revving it up at me and glaring at me, and I was thinking you've got to be kidding me lol. So I flip it in to neutral and rev it back, then we raced to the next stop light and I won, and he pulled a l33t riczor move(also unexpected) he turned as fast as he could without a turn signal onto some residential street. I was laughing my *** off for like 5 mins thinking of his face when he was glaring at me at the stop light revving it up.

years ago when i was a kid there used to be an old woman that lived down the street from me, she was in her mid 60s back then, she had a 70 or 71 cuda, under the hood was a 440 sixpack. her husband was about 70, he had a 68 or 69 charger,... a 426 hemi lived under it's hood.
neither one of them had a problem lighting up the tires, or putting a ford or chevy in its place.
it really surprised me when at the street races 1 night i see both of them there,... looking for some races,.... & even winning most of them. to race her in the cuda, you had the beat his charger.
and everyone thought "Little Old Lady From Pasadena" was just a myth.
never under estimate some old man,.. or old woman, especially if they happen to be in an old muscle car

He must have been confused as to why his $50,000+ car couldn't handle a beat up old $500 looking Firebird...
