4th gen hype???
Recently there has been a lot of questions regarding whether 100% STOCK Camaros and Firebirds can dip into the 12s. It even came up whether they can hit low 13s. At Lebanon valley last year the majority of them ran 13.2-14.2 and the quicker ones had exhaust and other bolt-ons. My friend has a 2000 Camaro SS M6, with a full 3" SLP exhaust, Granitelli Lid, and Mass Air meter and he has gone 13.3. I'm not calling any B.S or trying to start something, I just want to know if these cars exhist in the real world, or if Chevy mearly gives their factory freaks to people for comparisons sake.
Indeed there are MANY of these f-body's dipping into the 12's. It is really the 2001 cars though. Not so much the 98-00 f-bodys. the '01 cars got the LS6 intake manifold and really woke them up EVEN MORE in the upper RPM ranges! There are many in my local car club http://sffba.com that have done it. We are in Florida BTW. Get this....an 01 Z-28 w/ a cut-out, Lid, crank pulley and LT headers went 11.8X at close to 120 mph. ISN'T THAT SICKENING!! geezus this car flys..and the kid is consistent w/ it too
A couple other T/A's went mid 12's w/ just lid and cat-backs....some w/ stupid stugg like MAF ends, ported MAF's etc...still though.....very very impressive IMO...ohh these are M6's BTW too

The cars are out there. It takes a good driver to get one in the twelves bone stock though. Of course there wa a guy at my high school who couldn't drive and his best time with a 99 Z28 was a 14.3. It was pretty sad.

I believe the stockers runnin twelves. With a manual car, half the battle is nailing shifts and the launch. it takes a good driver to do it. My dad works at the GM proving grounds and knows guys who can get a stock Z06 vette to go 3.66 seconds 0-60 and 12.2 in the quarter. Much better than any magazine can muster.

Here in west Texas I never saw a "stock" Ls1 even go into the high 13s'. Modified ones did the others went low and mid 14s. Actually the highly modified LS1s' went low 13s'.

True enough. A perticular car can be capable of a prticular "time". But can "YOU" do it? That's the question.
I'd love to meet the guy who put an LS6 through a low 12s quarter but chances are I wont. So we have to stick to reality.Right?

Might be the heat in Texas messing with the times. Over in Louisiana I know someone with a 2001 TA with 3.23 gears and a removed MAF screen as his only mod and he ran a 13.30 at 104mph the same night I was there with my car. That's an Auto. A properly driven Manual should shave a few tenths 2-3, If powershifted I say maybe a 12.90.

Last time I was at the track I saw a 01 T/A with borla cat back and a K&N run 12.9. I was talking to the guy and he was sure if he could get it to launch right he could get the time lower. He seemed to be launching well to me, but he had stock tires
. If he got some BFG Drag Radials on he'd hook like a S.O.B. and I would think mid 12's would be possible.

Depends on the altitude and weather conditions. I can run high 12's in good weather and 13.4's in crappy weather. The LS1 is the most powerful "stock" motor I've ever driven.
