IROC V S2000 V Porsche 911 V TVR Griffith
Hi there!
Some of you may have read my story of loosing to the 911 (993 shape- the last of the aircooled 911's) whilst the roads were virtual ice.
Well in Feb, there will be the opportunity to run against him at Santa Pod dragstrip in the UK (used to be home to the Mighty 8th in World War 2- B-17's).
Not only that but another friend has a company Honda S2000 and another friend has a TVR Griffith 500 and they are keen to go up as well.
It should be an interesting race me thinks, my car will be running strong by then and with 3.23 gears(instead of 2.77), POSI (instead of open rear), subframe connectors and the obligatory K&N open element.
What do you guys reckon? Bets are up

WOW, the cars you listed sound more like a video game than a drag race. It must be cool to race cars like that.
My opinion is that the S2000 will get beat, the Porsche, and you should be good (if nit turboed) and the TVR will win. I say race them and then take a look at the price tags on each.

I think you would rip the S2000 a new one, they click off their high speed passes only if you drive it like you 1) stole it or 2) are a teenager. The Porsche, I'd say it's a close call, and the TVR would probably 0wn you all.

Thanks for the compliments guys. The cars are beautifull, being in the UK, there are quite a few about as well. The TVR is made over here in Blackpool,

Just read it can do 0-100 in 10.5 secs
When I go up to the strip there is usually a 'Run What You Brung' day and we get loads of Porsches, TVR's, hot rods, Mustangs, (I'm one of the only 3rd gens) modified Ford Capris, Jaguars, M3's to name a few!!!
Looks like it will be a good race for second then

TVR's b!tch of all b!tches! Enter the Speed 12
V12, 800hp, 650torque, 103.49 bhp per litre, Weighs 2205 lbs, Top speed of 240mph, and does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.
Just hope you dont get to mess with this guy.

That has to be the ugliest Viper copy I ever saw.
Seriously a lot of power to stick in a soap box.
Are you sure it ran 0-60 in 3.5 seconds? Probably the 0-100 time from the power to weight ratio given. Unless we are talking rice hp here

We'll have to have a little smack down of our own once the 305s broken in properly. As for the TVRs. Made in Blackpool, that says it all really.
The speed 12 isn't being built anymore and the in house engines (straight 6 and 72* V8 in the Cerbera) are, from what I've heard, so unreliable it's unreal. I'm not kidding, I know of a couple who took out a court action for the upset they suffered after their new car that covered 8000miles in 13 months had to have the engine replaced 3 time. That's not too good now, is it?But getting to the point, they are fast....when they are working properly. But they're not really my kinda thing.
Sorry to ramble. Felix, I'll e-mail you in the next week or so and tell you what I think of the car

Regards
Robert
P.S. I saw your letter in Classic American. A valid point and lets hope it has been noted.

Hey Robert, good to hear from ya buddy! Wondered what had happened to ya.
It would be great to have some moree thirdgens at the track meets, there are so many 5.0's that it is unreal! Do you read Street Machine? There Project "How-I-5.0" was interesting and that car is usually up there. There are quite a few running 11's-12's
The Mopar Euronats is the one I will never fail to attend, 3 Buick GN's there, Viper GTS and loads of Mopar muscle.
Yeah the Classic American thing had to be done, thought that for years, just never got round to writing. Those guys haven't got the first clue about writing an interesting article.. well you know my thoughts! I only really look at the classifieds these days and I don't even want a new car
TVR's are unreliable, they are really kit cars! I don't see why though, the engines are pretty basic, though they must be built to high tolerances to extract that much power from smallish blocks.
Look forward to hearing how the car runs, we should definitely link up and go for a cruise, Britain style (raining, and in traffic
)
Take it easy buddy, should think it's freezing in Glasgow!

I'll come down when the weathers a bit better then we'll have our fun.
Glasgow is wet and miserable...as usual
I've only just started reading street machine but have been following the mustang project. The car looks great with those wheels. I like the idea of GNs being there, gives me a chance to get thrashed...for once.
Just wait till I get that ProCharger though, then I'll show the mustang boys who their daddy is.
Also, I think that's Nadine that attends most of the mopar shootouts with the Viper. Blue/white stripe GTS with GTS-R wing? I'll tell you more about that in an e-mail.
Also, I may have the chance to get a POSI rear with discs from a trans-am. How big a difference did you fel going from the 2.73 one legger to the 3.32 POSI?
Regards, and good luck
