Some of the guys from the local F-body club hang out with our Mustang club a lot and at the last meeting they were talking about one of them driving the slowest new LS1 f-body made to a 13.5 But I bet if he's a little rich kid chances are he's not going to be able to drive like that.

For some reason with the LS1's I have noticed alot of the performance is in the person. I raced a silver WS6 98-01 from a dead stop at a redlight on a straight highway. I left his *** hard and he lost to me by about 3 car lengths. Then another time I raced this 40 something old guy in a red SS that still had the window sticker on it and he stayed right at my rear wheel. THEN I raced this (I think it was stock) C5 yellow vert and managed to get my *** handed to me. So you never know with the LS1s.

Well my 1994 Trans Am GT LT1/Auto ran a best of 13.91 and I got my a$$ smoked by a 2001 Firehawk 6-speed. Dead even until around 70mph and he pulled hard.

My friend raced me in his mom's 99 Z28 Convertable, and I beat him pretty bad. So technically I beat a LS1

a new 2002 WS6 runs 13.4-13.6 with a professional driver. the LS1's are very quick but are also very hard to launch with the T-56. if you guys are racing on a highway, forget it. remember, these cars have 235 hp. but, if you race from a stop you might have a better chance. if the kid doesn't know how to drive, he will most likely spin the tires, which gives you an advantage. but if he can hook, up, he's gone

The only close to stock LS1 that I've seen, a friend of mine owns. He has a full SLP exhaust and a LID. He's gone 13.3 at well over 105 and he isn't the best driver, so watch out.

Best #s ive seen at the track from LS1s (in the fbody) is a 13.7. This was a completely stock 2001 Trans Am WS6 manual. He is a friend of mine and is a little rich kid too. I beat him by a tenth in my Vette, and he got so pissed that my 13 year old car beat his $32k T/A, that he went out and ordered all kinds of speed parts (exhaust, cold air lid, K&N, drag radials, and 3.73 gears). He then went back down to the track to get new #s and ran a 12.9. Thats the thing with rich kids, if you actually beat them, theyll go out and spend a gagillion dollars to beat you right back. Theres no competing with that kind of money. By the way, im probably going to get arguments about the best time of only 13.7. This was with wheelspin during the 1st-2nd shift. He couldve probably done better, but ask any LS1 racer, and theyll tell you traction is very hard to get with these cars. With a set of drag radials, and the right shifts, LS1 fbodies should see 13.0.

Even a Ford magazine got em to pull 12.9's. Slicks aren't always the answer. But it is a great excuse.

I never read that article, but, GM HighTech Performance got a best of 12.8 with a stock Z28 6speed. This was in November, and with a spectacular driver. They then tested a 99 SS Camaro, and could only get a 13.4 in the same conditions. The SS an WS6 versions are heavier, being fully optioned, and with heavier suspention and wheels. Also, the ram air hoods arent as functional as the 93-97 versions. The rich kid that drove the WS6, didnt know how to shift well, or launch. If he had, he would have run low 13s, instead of a 13.7. The Fomula and Z28 versions of the LS1 can certainly run high 12s, a couple tenths faster than the WS6 and SS versions because of the weight and optioning difference. The average driver, however, with most cars being automatics, will run high-mid13s. I have beaten 2 WS6 Trans Ams at the track last year in my Vette, and it only runs 13.6.
