dodge stealth..v.s.85 iroc
Guy at work has a dodge stealth turbo awd...he says he is pulling low 12's?i called b.s. as usual..
he wants to race me ..im bone stock..85 iroc..60,000 miles...
I know im gonna lose more than likely..my only chance is that he is known for shifting really bad..so i guess Do i have a decent chance and what do those really run?By the way..his ca has a 130,000 miles on it...thanks for replies

12s are hard to believe in that car, though it is possible. I suppose it depends on if he just cranked the boost on the turbos, or actually did some work to it. However for being an import, the steath/ 3000GTs were quite heavy, an the only way that it will be fast is if it has the TT setup
They are fast cars, but not unbeatable. I highly doubt I could beat one...which means you will probably loose too (even if 85 was the best year
). If I were racing Id just make sure to race up to 85mph or so, because awd becomes quite a drag at speed. You will probably have a lot of ground to make up...those things launch like a bat outta hell!

Bone stock he's got 300 or 320hp depending on year. He'll whoop your *** bad. I'm assuming you have the 215hp 305 TPI, if not it'll be even worse.
Now, about the best he could run bone stock would be around a mid/high 13 for the best years, your average is around a 14.0 though. With just a few mods those turbo cars can haul major ***, especially with the all wheel drive. If launched properly they can eat all kinds of cars on the street. Bump the boost, do a couple exhaust mods, etc and he could break into the 12s if he can launch it right and shift well...
No matter what he's going to eat your lunch unless he is a poser with a non turbo stealth...

A friend of mine has a supposed 650hp 3000GT that he built about 2 years ago. He built the car up to be the fastest thing where we hang out. He was aiming for 11s and ended up with the best of 12.45. His problem was actually the all wheel drive. It wouldn't put all the power to the ground, and he would either severly bog or break something. As the info you gave points out, you will lose, but in a street race, you never know. I've seen my friends car get beat by 13 second Camaros, even though we know he has timeslips to prove he would kill them. I say mod your car some and go for it.

1991 Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo 6.0 and 14.5
1992 Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo 5.7 and 14.2

The Dodge Stealths are heavy cars, like 3800lbs curb weight. With the TT though they can get up to speed pretty quick. You'll probably lose.
As for building some performance, I have an article from Camaro Performers (I think) and they built up an 86 305TPI and they just put 305 torquer heads and a Comp Cam and it made 266hp @ 5000rpm. Pretty decent performance, especially if you do some more mods on top of that.

the turbo will wear like any other part. though there are ppl around here with 87 rx-7 on a stock turbo pushinig 12-14 psi(not good though) and on stock twins though I am sure he is prolly pushing it though to move the car that fast. problem with a lot of stock turbos is that they are made to spool quick and not really provide big boost numbers maybe 10-12 psi max after some mods after that they start to lose there efficiency and will heat the air more and lose there flow.
I would ask him if he is still running the stock twins or if he went to a single

A friend of mine has a 91 3000 GT with a 98 twin turbo motor installed in it. His best time was a 13.8. Sorry to say, but this will kill your LB9. Hopefully hes BSing you and doesnt have the turbo motor.
well i looked under his hood..it says turbo on the cover..he wouldnt say if it is twin turbo or single..yeah i have the Lb9 tpi.215h.p..i mean i never timed my car..its auto.i have to get some pics...everything under the hood is new..I dindt do the work..long story.I mean i know he is going to win but can i pull a 15?....this is some of my problems as well my rpos and my car are not telling the same story..thanks anyways
LincolnHawk,
I have the same combo as you so your times should be fairly similar to mine. My best time at the track was 15.0 @ 91.5, but that was a few years ago and my car has gotten faster. I rebuilt my trans (it wasnt shifting into 3rd at WOT before), replaced a plugged cat, replaced 2 year old spark plugs, and replaced stock exhaust with a hooker cat back. Im sure now I could pull a mid/high 14 second time fairly easily, because the car feels much faster than it did a few years ago. This should give you an idea of where you are running (or at least where you should run)
