What's the fastest you've ever been?
Well lets see her 1994 Trans Am GT top speed stock = 158mph
Covered fog light holes, removed front plate, used minor mods with a 20 miles strait of barren road, yes it did do 167.7mph. Belive it or not I don't care. By the way the Corvette has 1/4 mile/road race gearing not all out top speed the Z06 is even slower than a C5 coupe.

As far as the Z06 being limited to 168, yeah, that's definately b/c of gearing, but I wouldn't call 3.42s 1/4 mile gearing either.
I'm not going to argue with you about the transam, but I don't care you use KY jelly, a car w/ less than or even close to 300 hp isn't going to make 168 mph. The sign was wrong. I've seen a police officer's radar (that was recently calibrated), read a 98 corvette doing 223 mph. Did I believe that then? Hell, no. It wasn't a lingenfelter.
Chris
Also, is 158 the stock speed for a 94 transam? I thought that was the stock speed for a new Z28 which has a huge jump in HP. I know you like to read magazines, but I've read that the old Z28s top at 150 so I kinda figured the TA would be right with it. I'm guessing you know where I can look that info up.
Thanks,
Chris

Just to put in the "158 stock speed" for a Trans am GT... I can safely assume the base HP is less than 300 Hp (it being a '94) and also, I remember seeing a news report about the NJ Highway Patrol getting some tricked out 2001 Z28's which could do an incredible 152 MPH with ~350 Hp under the hood... just a little more food for thought. I'm not one to bicker though.
Reading all these reminds me of my first car
My 1990 Honda Civic Wagon 5 spd which was burning and leaking oil with a badly slipping clutch... I topped it out in 4th gear @ 95 MPH and that had to be the scariest thing I've ever done... felt like the thing was going to take off. It only went to 90 in 5th, It was pretty impressive though considering the car was in such bad shape and it had 213k on it, originally equipped with a 1.5L 93 Hp engine. (probably closer to 80 Hp at that point LOL)
Oh yeah, and I could get 12 sec 0-60 out of it in that condition hehe... revving that thing to 6500 RPM was the funniest thing.
Aahhh memories.

I don't like magazine tests either but the one I have right in front of me was a top speed shootout in 1995. The stock 1995 T/A hit 157mph that is the dead stock top speed, I was wrong by 1mph. It was an auto with 3.23 gears just like my car too. With my small mods I could still beat some LS1's in the 1/4 too. LS1's arent as aerodynamic as the older 4th gens. either. The radar was within 2mph on everything else we did that day. With my mods on my 1994 LT1 it went 167.7mph. When I bought my car it's best 1/4 was a 14.4 after my small mods it went 13.9 all the time, and that was on crappy Eagle GSC's.

1991 Z28- 95 or so thus far (when does the governer kick in on these?)
2000 Civic 115 so far
1991 Accord EX 125 (should cut off at 126 i think- the lx cuts off at 116)
1996 Accord lx 116 see above
1991 RS 110 before the governer
1991 Acura Legend 130 (felt like 60, that car was the nicest riding, and it was kinda quick too- it stomped all over my rs)
1986 Astro - was paced at 110 (afraid to go any faster, plus it prolly wouldn't)
1987 Accord Lxi 110 (thought it was going to fall apart and the pgm-fi light came on
)

110 - 120 Twice. Once to go back to my house after the 305 overheated [turns out the air dam had come off], and then again 2 weeks ago racing my friend in his Mustang. That's pretty quick for me, especially near curves.

First off the fastest thirdgens which is debated, but in my opinion it's the '89 TTA which tops out at 165.
Also went 160 on my 2001 Kawasaki ZX-6R-didn't have anymore.
And finally went around 185 on my friends mildly modified 2001 Suzuki GSXR-1000.

182 MPH, radar verified in Nevada.
86 T/A with a 350 I built as close to a NASCAR motr as I knew how 12 years ago. Shaved side mirrors, race suspension, big front air dam but basically a stock 86 body shell including the rear wing (which actually works to supply some downforce, we discovered!).
No possible way of keeping it in a single lane. It floated 4-5 feet one way and the other for no discernible reason. Could barely hear the motor screaming at 6700+ RPMs over the wind RIPPING past the windows. Like being in a linear tornado.
It took weeks to peel the smile off my face. Almost as long to stop shaking.

When shooting for those speeds, you might want to consider putting a rudder on it LOL... it'd serve you better than steering with the front wheels.

Hit 136 a few weeks ago before I backed off.
Passing the century mark seems to be a rather frequent experience.

I've been 110 mph. I still had some juice left but the amount of air suckin underneath the back of the top was just annoying. Anyone with a third gen vert probably has had the air suck underneath their tops when going really fast.
