115. I wasnt racing anyone, my annoying friend was behind me(who was half asleep at the wheel with his head on the head rest). So I just decided to rip up the roads, it was fun as hell wish I went faster. It was on RT17 also, limit is 55, and theres usually a lot of traffic, so 115 is pretty good!.... imagine the ticket going 115 in a 55! :lala:

Did 115 mph, one nite at work going to lunch. There's usually something that always goes wrong with my car and I didn't want to push it any further for my safety and others.

An indicated 125mph in my neon . I would've gone faster, but thats when the govener kicked in. This surprised me, cause I thought that the govener was supposed to halt the fun at 118.

I've done somewhere between 145-150 with a open face helmet on a CBR600F3 (scary as heck, I'll never do that again) I've pegged the Harley at over 120. last weekend I played with a newer Rustang at a hair over 100 in The IROC, through, over and around traffic. I've done over 140 as a passenger in a then new VW Corrado (sp?)
that is about it

My speedo's off quite a bit so I really don't know how fast I was going but I remember the rpms were at 4000. How many mph would that translate into given my T-5's 0.63 5th, 2.73 rear gears and stock height tires? BTW, I did this on ramp leading up on to the bridge over the Mississipi river on I-55 in West Memphis. That road is only two lanes wide, or should I say two lanes narrow, LOL. I got my taste of what NASCAR drivers feel like going 190mph inches away from a concrete wall

4000 RPMs, .63:1 OD, 2.73 rear, and assuming 12" radius tires (i don't know exact size but thats a general estimate) = 166 mph according to the calculator in the equations section. Man those calculators rule!

I've only had mine up to 110, and it took a while to get there... Man I hate that 700R4 WOT kickdown! Oh well guv'na kicks in at 115 anyway, not that i can't hack that. But not like I really need to, theres SO many cops around here as it is and i don't feel like spending the weekend in jail.

I hit 115 in the 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlas Supreme SL super-hoopty. I was following an Infinity Q45 (I think that's the right number) who was doing the same on 59-20 headed toward Birmingham from Tuscaloosa. The speedometer in my Camaro is way off (never recalibrated after 3.73 swap) so I'm not sure about my top speed in that car, probably 105 or so.

i hit 120 quite a few times. its top of 4th gear and i haven't tried 5th yet. don't have good front tires so i'm not gonna risk it. i went 135 in my old one (700r4 2.73 gears). both of those feel like i was only going 60 mph!

The calculator says I went around 140mph in the good ole 85...d@mn 85mph speedo! The car didnt seem to have any problems with the speed...but I dont think I'll be trying again any time soon. The thought of trusting my life in 17 year old parts doesnt thrill me too much so Ive been taking it easy lately.

There are many things wrong with the calculation presented and there are a few things that you need to consider. First off the fastest thirdgens which is debated, but in my opinion it's the '89 TTA which tops out at 165. Ok that said, the .63 5th gear is more rare than most and it's probably a .73 unless you're absolutely sure. Another thing, 12" radius tires are VERY short. Most people run tires with at least 12.75" in thirdgens. I run 13.08" radius which is slightly more than stock (13.01"). So right there you can drop the MPH to about 145. Add in about 10% loss to possible clutch spin and you're talking 136ish which is much more realistic.

This topic was a hot one last fall and you'll find about 120 responses to it if you do a search, but my record to date was pacing a Lexus at 3100 RPM in .73 5th gear with a 3.23 rear... about 102 MPH.

:lala: :lala:

edit: I guess taller tires equal more speed, but there is loss to the clutch and the tranny may be different. I also believe the 305's stop pulling around 3900 RPM when in 5th gear... just because of Hp limitations.

Can you really do that in an LT-1? Not calling BS, I just though they have govenors at like 140.

140+ In the Fromula. I was racing my friends Oldsmiblie Auora and several miles down the road he started slowely pulling on me. He never past me though, just because we ran out of road.

Nope this isn't a double post... but responding to "168" in a '94 Trans am GT... did they make a GT Trans am? I don't know that, but 168... I'm sorry, but they will not do that without some good solid mods. If you respond there are the following mods, then consider the call retracted.

BTW the fastest "production" 4th gen I've heard of was modded by Hurst (I think 9 were made)in the late 90's ('98?)... it did 182 MPH with a six speed tranny and some heavy engine mods.

I also went 110 in a new 2000(?)5.4L F-150 supercrew. As a side note, its slightly faster than a 2000 v-6 stang from 70-110mph . By the way that was limited by air resistance or a VERY soft govener, not cause i lifted. Its a long story as to why i was driving that, but the accord that was following us was falling back fast.

call it old age, im 25 and i now i know how stupid i was flying down the road in my formula, pegged 137 and nerver even had it floored, bascially i chickend out, at that speed u are toast and anyone near you , i would nerver attempt that again, inless i was in a nascar car, built for that, and built for the wreck that comes with 137

take my experience and learn from it , getting busted by a state trooper, for 102 in a 55, being cuffed and stuffed sitting in the car wacthing some guy wrecklessy hook a chain to the nose of your car and tow it away, really sucks, not to mention all the other **** that came along with that speeding ticket,

and my final thought, and what cured me from roadracing at those speeds or even testing out a car for that matter , was when i got to witness someone scraping body parts off the interstate, and knowing one of the surviors that now has a scare from one ear to the other under his jaw, from where he was allmost decapitated,

thats not cool, guys, i know its so freaking tempting, to do, and i have done it, not much i can say, but now i take it to the track, just my thoughts and opions, take them as you will , sorry to bring the nature of this post down,

I was in a controlled envoriment at 147 at a track and i was clocked so don't even bother looking at speedometer. I was in my old 98vet(sold it for 2000 ws6). That speed gets to you because you here sounds from from your car you know its not suppose to make. I will probrably say I will neverdo that again. I like road course racing for time, but you never really get moving terribly fast. A 100 is probrably as fast I have ever gone on a road course.

1990 IROC 5.7L - 140 MPH in a 50 - could've kept going but I ran out of road.

2001 Eclipise GT 3.0L - 115 in a 50 - again, ran out of road... it's dead stable at that speed tho.

1961 VW Bug 2.1L - Around 107 in a 75 on I10 - Flat out.. *very scary*, a crossbreeze could've killed me. Couldn't tell how fast I was going since the speedo only goes to 90, but the needle was back around near the 0.

Trans Am GT's just had the up level spoiler and deluxe seats in 1994. And yes it went 168mph, My friends dad is in charge of the your speed is sign/radar station here in Madison county so me and Brian borrowed it for a couple of minutes. It is a newer 3 digit model and is calibrated +-2mph becase of the angle or something.
My cars speedo was completely pegged so it was definatly a little off at high speeds.

My mods were:
K&N FIPK, air foil, LT4 KM, HTPP, Dynomax muffler, 1LE bellows
ran consistant 13.9's with terrible traction

My 1987 Celebrity ( Satans Chairiot ) could hit 180mph but I didn't want to chance it on my Douglas Xtra traction tires.

110mph racing a turbo eclipse. i had him beat by 70mph (we raced from a 40mph roll), but i decided to pile some more insult on him. the vette was stable as hell, but ill never go that fast again on public roads. one slip up and your done at that speed

All i said is that the speedo said about 125 (it only go up to 120). the calibration could have been off. In any case, i hit the govener pretty hard, it knocked me down to about 110mph. you can come for a ride, and i'll show you if you want. High speed is possible, it just takes a l o n g time to get there.

Car: '86 TransAm WS6
Engine: 305 TPI
Transmission: Custom TH700R4
Here are mine: Cars, engines and speeds

'86 Pontiac T/A - 305 TPI - 110mph w/cruise control
'91 Plymouth Acclaim - 3.0 L V6 - 125mph indicated
'79 Safari Wagon - carb 350 - 105mph radio verified

and of course
'87 Plymouth Voyager - 3.0L V6 - 84mph Radar verified by Highway patrol

Getting the Safari Wagon to 105 was a pretty big deal, at the time, it was running on 225 75r14 snow tires on all four and I had the full safari rack on the roof, complete with daylighters. I had to get the speed from the Kenworth I was drafting off of, cause the spedo only went to 85.

I don't know if a neon will hit 125, but I know my wife's old one would do 105 before it hit the rev limiter in 4th Nice straight Kansas interstate. I had my GTA up to 130 easy, but it was dark and bad things tend to happen at night.

182 mph in my 91 ZR1. Went out one night and had to hit the 180 mph mark (which is where "they" say life begins for a ZR1). All I know is that it scared the #$%& out of me.

I have an (I hate to admit it) auto trans in my neon. They are only 3 speed . This means that my top gear (3) is taller than the 4th, but lower than 5th in the stick shift cars. tall enough to reach a higher speed than 4th will, but not so tall as to not accelerate 5th. The only advantage i can think of of having the auto trans is that i only have to use 1st in autoXs (it goes up to a little higher than 50). The 5 speeds still kill me cause 0-30 SUX.

i did at least 110-120 in my modded 78 grand prix on a 2 lane road that didn't even have lines with mailboxes on one side and a couple of cars comong towards me. I let off while still accelerating because going over the rises was too scary in a car with sagged springs and bad shocks. My dad was clocked doing 118 at the end of the straight on the milwaukee mile when he took a lap, he let off only because he was on street tires with a poly suspension and big sway bars in a 77 olds 98 with a beefed 455. my berlinetta's digital speedo flashes at 85, and i've let off and its stayed flashing for awhile- best i can say.

Did 115 mph, one nite at work going to lunch. There's usually something that always goes wrong with my car and I didn't want to push it any further for my safety and others.

you must eat a pretty late lunch to to taking it at night. Or maybe you were in Alaska?

Anyway, One night I did 140mph in at 99 fomula w/6 speed. It was a newly built road and the only light I had was my highbeams and the starlight from the sky. Thats enough to get your heart pounding faster then one of a crack addict. Fortuantely I decided to stop within about 40 feet of it turning into a bumpy dirt road cause it wasn't finished yet. Let me tell ya, at 140, highbeams don't mean Jacks**t

Cody, no transam GT without a lot of mods will do 168.

I had a hard time getting to 165 in a 99 Corvette Coupe and you're going to tell me that with about 100 less hp, you're going to hit 168 when the vette's top speed is around 175?

I'd be real surprised if a transam has better aerodynamics than a vette, but even if it does, how would yours be faster than a TTA?

Anyway, to the subject, my fastest driving in a car was a registered 165 in a 99 Corvette coupe.

Chris
