He'll kill you. Sorry to say but us v6 cars can't hang with newer lighter v6 cars. And grand am's are quick and I'd say could give some tpi cars a good run. Don't fret tho, your car is cooler then his!
Yeah i have to agree w/ elevario, he would kill you. My friend has a 2000 grand am gt, and it has some pick up, it could give a lot of V8 3rd gens a run for their money, with the exception of the 5 speeds and 350's.

im not the smartest man in the world, but a 2002 grand am will walk all over the 2.8 liter firebird. well, i must admit, i was assuming a few things, i didnt take into account that maybe he could be spotting you some buslengths. if thats the case, who knows. but from a dead stop, you should at least do a nice smokey brake stand while you two are getting ready (you just might intimidate him), at least then you can act like you have alot of heat

correct me if im wrong but the formula isnt crippled with a 2.8 is it? i'm not raggin on 86bird at all, its just that i think the grand am gt would make mincemeat of it.

the grand am is one of the cars i have driven at work, that i can honestly say feels faster than my 3.1 1991

Im remembering going to the track with my friend in his '92 RS 3.1. He ran mid 17's all day long.
The Grand Am will kill you.
Buy a dry nitrous kit and have fun putting the 2.8 out of its misery.

Most irocs and z28's here in tucson, run stock around 15's and really high 14's. I didn't say the grand am could beat them but give them a good run.
you will eat his dust sorry... two of my friends raced one time a while back. one had an 86 2.8 and he was by himself. i and two others were in my friends 98 sunfire convertible, we smoked the camaro pretty easy.
I owned a 3.1L 91 Camaro and rented a 3.1L Grand Am for business purposes (not even the 3.4 with ram air) and it woulda crushed my Camaro. You'll get stomped.
BTW- the ram air feature on the Grand Am won't help him at all (not that he'll need the help to beat you). There's a big hole cut in the air box of the Ram Air G/A's that negates any ram air effect from the front-facing scoop. Duct tape the hole in the air box closed and the ram air will really be functional.

ok, the ga will beat the 2.8-theres about 500-1000 lb difference first off (f-body being heavier), and second and most important the hp difference- stock ga's come w/ 175, and the ram air would help it (a little as mentioned before)
and yea, a gtp is a grand prix; the ga your referring to was a gts-verrrrrrrrryyyyyyy rare!! 250 hp!!! its even faster then the gtp grand prix!
i used to own a 92 ga w/ the 3.3- 160 hp (came w/ 150 i believe), and i beat my friends 92 3.1 rs-hope that helps-
a little off sub. here, but wasn't there a gtx grand prix-i could have sworn i saw one with a hood scoop?!?!?!

i would agree that most 3rd gens are slow...but you have to remeber the point of them. I purchased my 90' Formula about a month ago. I got it for $800. It runs perfectly, has a working 5-speed and all ive done is some simple work so far. It has the LO3, so its not that fast...but remeber the $/hp factor. THe fact that with my open element, weight stripping, new tires and a hooker catback, i can beat $17,000 civic Si's all day (been done before). My car calculates to about $1200 right now...with the extra $15,800 i saved...my car could be a 12 second monster. Remember that my friends...thats why we love them so much.
