I hate Fords, but those lightnings are quick.
I was driving home from work tonight (in my dad's truck, the Z28 is still hibernating in the garage for the winter), and I turn right onto the service road, behind a new lightning (clear tailights) so I pass him at about 80km/h (the old 4.3 chevy was gruntin and groanin). Once I got ahead of him, I rolled down my window, and then heared the whine of the supercharger as I whatched him FLY by. Ford sucks ****, but those lightings are fast! Can't wait until Chevy builds a Silverado SS!

hehe yes they are but i have embarassed two of them with my Z during freeway races (60-100+). gotta give em credit for making that brick move though.

How bout the Dodge concept ram with viper V10? i have to admit it kicks ***. i guess chevy will have to install the LS6 in a silverado to compete right? i hope they will give the SSR more than the truck 5.3, i'm counting on it, Lutz is in the chair now!!

hey Tom84L69, what does your car run? you say you embarrassed 2 Lightnings from a 60mph roll, but i couldnt beat one in a street race from a stop and my Vette runs mid-13s!!! maybe it was your 3.73s that helped on the top end. maybe i lost because i spun so much tire? just wanted to compare quarter mile times (cause if yours is better than mine, i wont feel too bad about my loss).

Lightnings are fast from the start but if you go after them from a 60 or 70 roll you could take them depending on their mods.
You see the Lightnings run mid 13's stock and with pullies and a chip they can easily be in to the 12's. But that is 1/4 mile times!
From a roll at 60 mph the aerodynamics start to take affect on the car. The Lightning is like running a brick wall into 60 mph wind and the Firebirds, Camaros and Vettes will cut the air much better and if you have a mid 13 sec car you could take it.
I addition I think they have a govenor set at 120mph, not sure.

So if you want to beat a Lightning tell him to race from 50mph.

you forget that the TPI intake is high rpm restrictive and it runs out of breath at about 60+. factor in the corvettes base 2.59 gear ratio, and its not beating much from a roll. i was in TPIVETTE89s car when he raced that Lightning, and the truck kept 2 car lengths on us the whole race (to 100mph). we couldnt catch him at any mph, aerodynamics or not, although he never gained on us either.

Like I said he probably had pullies and chip which would put him in the high 12's or very low 13's.
With TPIVETTE89 running a 13.5 (?right) then that would make him about 2 length behind him.
But then TPIVETTE89 started from a stop. Try a race starting at 50 or 60 mph.
I win alot of races doing that and I have 2.77 gears but then I hae the ZZ9 cam and edelbrock 6085 heads too, but stock intake.
The hardest race for me was a 97 vette (I think, it had the exhaust tips in the middle). I started behind him and had to play catch up but by 130mph I was pulling past him. At that point he new it was over and let up.

I've never had my car to the track, but I have beaten new Ls1 camaros and even a C5 vette. Stock Lt1 4th gens I can usually take. I have also beaten a modded Syclone from a 35 mph roll. My car honestly runs mid to high 13s, pretty sure it's not faster than that. Most any stock mustang is easy prey, cobras are closer. Most street races are won because of driver ability rather than horsepower, and I've had a lot of practice.

As for the freeway races with Lightnings, as stated above, those trucks are bricks and start to push a lot of wind above 60 or so. my car also has a lot of cam for a 305 and it's not a TPI, so it makes power up high.

wish i would have gotten it to the track before the axle and trans broke

Has anyone heard of the Ford Boss 5.3 truck?
I saw one at a car lot today. They are supposed to be rare

They certainly are rare. So rare in fact, that there were none ever produced

Ford doesn't make a 5.3 and the only special pickup trucks they sell are the Lightnings and Harley Davidson F150's.

I met a guy last night that buys/sells Mustangs/Lightnings (http://www.performanceautosport.com] for a living. Said that he'll never go another day without a Lightning and told me how big of a kick he gets out of beating corvettes on the street. Then again...his wasn't stock either.

I saw a yellow ford truck with a black hood scoop and it has boss emblems on the side and back. I thought it said 5.3 under the boss badges. NIC do you know what truck this was then ? or is just some badging a dealer threw on. Since the guy up above mentioned it and you said it didnt exist....and I know I saw this truck too...maybe you can shed some light on it? Im not sure thought if it was 5.3 or not

It's a Naturally-Aspirated 5.4 liter V8, SOHC. It's badged as the "Boss 5.4", kinda like a sport appearance package. I don't think they made it any faster, just put a carbon fiber dash on. It also is Yellow, with black accents, and 18" Chrome 20 spokes. It's a pretty rare truck, but I don't really like it that much.

I'll settle for a picture or two posted up here, but what a dealer says means nothing to me. Don't get all defensive, there's no need for that.

It's likely nothing more than an F150 that someone's slapped an aftermarket badge on. There was never a Boss any kind of pickup made by Ford. Just to be sure I wasn't off my rocker I did a couple searches over the net but couldn't find any sort of "Boss" package for anything other than the Mustangs.

I raced a ford lightning in my z28. I took him off the start and got way ahead. I let off at about 75 looked back and saw he was gettin pretty close so I floored it again and totally smoked him. I didn't think he was fast at all. Maybe this one was totally stock or the driver didn't know how to drive, but thats 1 more kill for me. I didn't even know he was trying to race till I heard his tire squeel when he shifted to second.

there certainly is a new "Boss" truck, a local ford dealer just took a page ad with four of them pictured. I don't know whether it is a package performed after ford and before dealer, but it is listed as a "Ford Boss"

So if such a thing does exist, why would there be no mention of it on f150online.net, f150world.com, fordf150.net, or anywhere on yahoo? Why wouldn't I have heard something about it on BON forums or the Corral? Seems to me if there was a "Boss" edition Ford truck I would read about it on a Ford site first, not a chevrolet site. Like I said...until I see pictures, I won't believe that it exists.

I don't mean to be rude, but I really don't care whether someone "believes" it, I am merely confirming a prior claim of existence based on first hand observation. If you need further proof, find it . . . my eyes are proof enough for me.

It does exist but all it is aftermarket kit put on at the dealership from boss. Just a 2 wheel drive 5.4L with some but *** ugly rims. There 27,900. For that i'd buy a lightning for 31,500 and have the real deal. I got to agree that a lightning is a good kill, but there isnt much driving with them on quarters because they are autos. Driving has nothing to do with it in lightnings. Just modding not driving makes a lightning fast. There traction is hellacious, with the 18x9.5 and the modified heavy duty tranny. I know this trucks only because a friend has one. So good kill. This is what i used to get a kill on my buds lightning.

Like I said, they are rare...
I don't want to get offensive, but when someone keeps calling me a liar, I get a little angry. Well here you are, Nic. You can call the number.
Northpoint Ford Inc.
4701 Navy Rd
Millington, TN 38056
1-901-873-3673
I believe that is the one, I'll find out for sure this weekend. It is a large truck yellow with a black cowl hood. It was an automatic and it has a 300 something engine(5.? L).
If this is something someone made, they made quite a few of them. They are limited production but there are way too many to be a little homemade muscle truck. Got a good long distance server? Got to nerve? Call. And then don't contradict me again.:nono:
I speak what I know and try my best to help out even when I don't. I don't lie and I have no need for lowly, childish things like telling little wild stories. All of that is beneath me. So be careful who you argue with and what you argue about. I won't get mad at you and I won't say, "I told you so." That is also beneath me. Call. It may be long distance, but it's a low price for an education.

BoooooHoooooHoooHooooHooo! Sheesh! Let it all go man, let it all go! Seriously, I, uh...work for a ford dealership, and lemmie tell ya, there isn't a factory-made Boss 5.4 truck....period. and Nic, ,your wrong too! There are currently 3 "special" F-150's. Ya forgot the King Ranch. Now, there's the distinct possiblity that the dealership outfits these trucks. We've got a Chevy dealership down here (Phoenix, by the way) that superchargers, and puts rims and what-not on their "Thunder" trucks. Anyways, not meaning to put anybody out, my little intro is just something I do....ya'd have to know me. Anyways, your both respected members of this online community, learn to get along, it'll be a lot better if ya do. Remember, we're after a common enemy now...gotta hold the import crowd off!

Racnoth...Call the number. I dare you. Go for it. The guy at the car lot said they were limited. I don't remember how many, but within the next week, I'll go to that car lot, endure the aggressive salesmen and get alot of information on the truck.
How dare you simply tell me I didn't see what I saw. Who do you think you are? What kind of person are you considering me to be? It's a closed minded person that will not believe something just because they haven't seen it or touched it. I'm childish for getting angry about this? Let's say you saw an unusual car or truck and you tell a "friend". That "friend" then abrubtly tells you that you did not. Well, good work, Sherlock, I just made the whole thing up. I randomly tell lies about fictional trucks. In fact, my hallucination is so vivid that I can give a full description and an address and phone number that can prove the entire thing. CWIROC, zerogauge, wsbformula89, and JJ have all given you a little info.
Call the damn number. Send a letter. Find out. If you don't, I'm going to have to assume that you're afraid of being wrong. tsk tsk. Very childish. The next time you post a kill here, what if someone tells you that it did not happen and you don't even own the car you claim to own. Same type of accusation.
Call the number. I refuse to believe you upper class Fbody owners are afraid of a short long-distance call.

Nobody is saying you didn't see what you saw...we're saying Ford does not produce them. That in no way means that a dealer didn't throw on some tacky graphics trying to pass it off as a Boss 5.4 to boost profits. I have tons of respect for you and totally belive you saw what you said you saw. Tell you what though...since you're so adamant about it...I'll paypal $5 to the first person to post photos of the truck and the window sticker on it showing the Boss package as a factory option and I'll humbly admit my being 100% wrong. Fair enough?

I don't know alot of technical info...
I don't know about this "dealer throwing mods on a truck to sale it" thing.
I'll say this much. The guy said there was either 500, 5000, 300, 3000, something like that. I have a horrible memory. Also, I don't have the equipment to post any pictures anywhere. I wish I did. I could make some good websites.
I'll say this: There is a possibility that only one of these exist. A failed project by a friend of a worker at the lot. This is the only other possibility I can think of. If you're saying that this truck is to ford as say a shelby mustang...then I don't think there's any conflict. That's probably what it is. But I wish someone would call.
Several guys there are crooks. My brother almost ended up with a car and didn't even know about it. "You want that one there, right?" "What? Huh?" Big loan application half filled out on a V6 Mustang he made the mistake of admiring. Me, I was being followed around by a nicer guy, but I was careful not to completely express how much I loved the 2002 Ford Crown Victoria LX, complete with a floor shifter, tinted windows, and a black grill. One of the finest cars I've ever seen. In my bizarre opinion.
And the truck I'm talking about. Very confusing. You see it and do a double take. Then you start to compliment it. Then you realize that it looks like....AAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSS.
All the same I wish someone else at the site could see it or at least call. If they want to sale anything, they're not going to lie to you about it.

I've seen a salesman on our lot open the hood of a new Sonata for an older couple and exclaim "It looks like a rocket ship, doesn't it!?"

lol, I have no idea how that's even remotely relevant, but I just thought of it and it was funny so I thought I'd share.
