92 Firebird vs. 99 Civic - how big a victory?

My fiancee's sister's boyfriend has a 199 Civic, non-VTAC, that he thinks is fast. He says he has no need to race anybody because he knows his car is faster. I don't know WTF he is thinking. His car is bone stock except for some 18" rims, tinted windows, stereo system, ghettofab grille, and some Altezza lights. I know with all that crap he is pushing 500hp easily(haha, yeah right). I am waiting to get him at a stoplight so I can show his what's up. My car is a 92 Firebird with a 305 TBI, check my sig for the mods. How badly will I beat him?

Being a non-VTEC and those rims might actually slow him down, I'd say you'll win, but not by too much, maybe a couple lengths, that's just my guess though.

When you say it is a non-VTEC engine, do you mean it is not a Civic Si? Because the HX and EX models both employ variable valve timing, they just don't make the 160 horses the Si does. The base DX model is the only non-VTEC Civic from that model year (106 HP, 103 lb-ft) The specs on the EX, which is the most powerful model other than the Si, are as follows:

1.6L VTEC, 127 HP, 107 lb-ft
0-60 mph: 9.1
1/4 mi.: 16.8 @ 82.3 mph
(And isn't it a cute little thing?)

Those numbers are assuming he can drive the car to it's max potential (doubtful), and that the car is in top working order (not likely, since tacking on the aftermarket grille probably voided the Honda factory warranty, and most ricers I couldn't find the hood release latch, let alone perform preventative maintanance.) Without knowing exactly quick your mods make you, I can't say how badly you'll beat him, but sufficive to say, you will hand him his a$$.

By saying that it is a non-VTEC, I mean it is just the standard 4-banger with no VTEC.

I don't know exactly what my mods make for my motor, but I do know that it laid down about 60ft of tire marks with a new set of tires and 2.73 gears.

The DX is not the base model for the hatchback at least... the CX is. The CX is a DX minus radio and rear windsheild wiper... $1000 dollars less.

For the DX Hatchback...
106 Hp
103 Tq
~2200 lbs
8.5 0-60

The weight is an estimate after having looked over the specs in my mom's honda owners manual... for you guessed it, a 1999 Civic CX. Of course I installed a CD player for her and she avoided the ugly *** rear windsheild wiper. Nicest looking Civic ever IMO.

I'd guess it runs a mid 16 1/4 with perfect launch... probably more like 17 on an average run. If you're talking about the civic sedan DX then I'd say 17.5 at best... it weighs another 300 lbs.

Be nice, give him a 2 length head start... and be prepared to help him reattach his doors.

sounds like this civic driver needs to race my 97 lumina, that'd be more like it. he won't race ya cause he knows he'll lose. judging by those times, my lumina would give him an equal race, if not that, i would win! PATHETIC

VTEC doesn't mean too much, as stated above, it's even on the lo-po wons. Heck, my grandpa's 2000 chevy prism has VVTI, or another acronym for vtec. even my mom's trailblazer has variable exhaust valve timing.

If i were you, i'd coerce this guy into a street race with his girl in his car, then embarass him.

they can not void the warranty just off that unless that is the part that caused the failure.

you will kill this fool

my grandpa's 2000 chevy prism has VVTI
in a prism? VVT-i is toyota's version of VTEC. i dont think two copmanies cna name them the same thing, that is why toyota has VVT-i and ford has zetec, not VTEC.

the prism has vvt-i. if you haven't noticed, the prism is a toyota corolla rebadged, hence the prism has a toyota motor. 125 hp.

A 99 non vtech civic has a curb weight ranging from
just under 2400lbs (lightest coupe) to just under 2700lbs (heavist sedan)

They have 3 non vtech (or non SI) engine options all of which are 1.6 liters
127hp 106ft/lbs (most powerful non vtech)
115hp
106hp

In other words slow as ****t

My advice to you "NO WORRIES, MATE" (using australian accent)

I'd have to say you smoke him pretty good. A while back i raced a kid in an older civic (89-93) with a 170 HP motor swapped in and handed him his a$$ by about 3 car lengths. This was with just my ignition wires and air intake, the rest was bone stock.

you would win it being stock of course, but down the car, down the retarded driver of the car thinking that the car is fast. if he had the money, then he could make your car look like grocery cart blowing in the wind and he would be the winner. the car has potential, the driver doesn't.

GideoN, if the guy hand even $10,000 he'd be happy as **** to run anything below 15 seconds, heck im putting about $7,000 into my car and i should be running 13s. Theres proof that imports suck!

I heard somewhere that it takes about $30,000 for an import to run anything that we would call "fast". I don't know if this is true, but if it is sounds like a serious waste of dinero

The ricers you know then don't know their ****. Anyways don't you people consider ricers as people who think that they can go fast but only have type r stickers on their cars? Why would you want to ask them, why do you want to even look at ignorant people like that unless you want to be one!

You know gideo, a civic does NOT have potential :lala: lets see I spend 10 dollar per hp and you spend 50 dollar per hp I don’t see that as potential I see that as a waste of money

you can make anything with four wheels fast. It depends on what $$$you put in. I hate when kids aare talking about cars and youll hear one say, "Yea but you can make blah fast though". yes, you can make Anything fast. It just so happens that V-8s and a few select Imported rotories and 6's take better to mods for less money. So dont go saying a civic has good potential, because as far as im concerned, it is at the bottom of the list.

18 " Dookie wheels and all that junk. I hope you would smoke him. Your set-up isn't the quickest but at least it would sound a hell of alot better. Break out the 400 Pontiac and rape him. A money race for his rims and that silly 5" chrome pipe draggin off the back. And toss in that stupid wing you know he has.
