should this have happend

My girlfriends sister just started dating a guy who drives an 89 mustang gt. The only mods are headers and exhaust. My car is an 86 tpi 305 t/a. Some of my friends were telling me to wax him that i had him with no prob. My car is competely stock. We took it to the street. His car is a 5 speed mine has a 700r4. We set it up and on go i pulled about 1 and half car lenghts ahead of him. At about 75 he busted me by about a car lenght.

Was this bad or was i going to get beat period.

Truthfully I'm suprised it took him that long to overtake you. Perhaps he got a bad launch. Of course, I saw a friend of mine run a 16.5 @ 95.something last night in his 5 speed GT that's putting 212 hp to the wheels (he did run several mid 14's as well), so nothing should really suprise me anymore.

With headers and exhaust and if the Mustang is a 5spd, I would suspect low 14s out of it. Now, since you have the TPI 5spd., I'd say you're at mid 15s. So, I'd say that is very good, considering it took him that long to catch up. Can he not drive or something?

He probably should have been ahead of you the whole time. A stick Mustang can launch hard and with you being less modded he should have won easier. Nic your friend with the 212 hp should be in the 13s. Thats what my dads Stang did on the dyno.

A friend of mine has an '88 Camaro with a 305 and the 700r4. I raced him one night for ****s and giggles with 3 people in my car and he was all alone. There was a point around 40MPH where i let off the gas so he could catch up, and then took off again when he got even.

No offense to you, but he should have beaten you by more.

I agree, no offense man but he should have killed your 305. How it took him that long I don't know. Must not know how to drive. However, I would like to know where you people race where a mustang with a stick and headers runs low 14's!!. I mean I picked up .4 with only headers on my car, but, that only put me @14.6...are you on the coast or what???

Epping is only a couple hundred feet above Sea level...plus In april and late september, temps are about 40 degrees.....great HP making weather. I have a few friends who ran low 14's with nothing more than gears and pullies and maybe an H-pipe.

West End, about a mile from Godwin. But I'm in school in Danville, VA until the end of April when school lets out. Maybe I'll see you sometime. Oh yea, you ever hung out at Rack-n-Sack?

Yea, I used to come up there before it was shut down. I was one of the ones in the group of Mustangs/F-bodies that used to run up there all the time.

Chances are I was there that night then. That's Jarrod from the Tri Cities Mustang Club.
