If I can give some advice here from experience, don't get a V6 and wait for a V8, of any kind for that matter. Even the slower 1's.

Is the conversion that expensive for F-bodies? I can't speak in terms of F-bod's, but you can get into a 5.0 swap on a Mustang for right around $1500 and it's usually pretty easy to find a 4 banger with a blown motor for less than $500. So you end up with a 5.0 Mustang for around $2000 that hasn't been abused and beaten on like a V8 car would be.

Just curious...

Hey Nic we recently purchased a 1987 GT with 150,000 on it for $600. It runs great, and idles perfectly. The problem is the tranny wont engage in gear. I'm hoping it's simple to fix, which it's looking to be. Other than that it needs some cleaning and a fresh paint job. For under $1000 We hope to have a Mustang to sell for $4000!!!

Why would you want to waste your time and money with a V6 when you are gonna end up with a V8 later on. Quit playing around and go for the gold now, not in three years. Trust me, I started you with a 82' Berlinetta Camaro when what I really wanted was an IROC. Six months later I totalled the Berlinetta and bought a 86' Fiero SE, sold that a year later and got a 87' IROC with a 5.7L TPI and t-tops which was just what I wanted to begin with, Icould have saved myself a year and a half and a couple thousand bucks if I had just waited a little longer. Trust me you will not regret the wait.

O...............K, LOL. :sillylol:

If what you want is a V8, get a V8. If you will be satisfied owning a V6 (most aren't) then OK, but expect to get beat by almost everything, even imports.

To answer your question directly...

You're looking at:
0-60 of 9-10 seconds.
1/4 mile of 17.0-17.5.
Top speed around 115.

The above estimates assume good tires and a well maintained engine/tranny.

15's can be had with some good planning (and $$)... lower with turbo or N20...

I'd say it'd be a good beater.

BUT... I would also say that a V8 with a little more mileage or age can be had for a comparable price.

wait for the v8..me being someone who has had 5 cars in my 2 years of driving..I've learned to wait now until you find what you really want. It's definitly worth the wait.

I was thinkin the same thing, domestic beef not really. LOL low fat turkey LOL, I say more like SPAM.
..Dude I hate to tell ya but import would beat a V6 Camaro. Its got as much HP as the imports do, but they are way lighter. I wish I could sympathize for ya, but I got a 350, and thats all I wanted, wasn't gonna waste my time. My friend has a V6 firebird, a 91, slow, cool lookin, but slow, I think he abuses his V6 more than I abuse my V8, cuz I hardly ever get that pedal to the floor, I just don't need to... but ya wont realize that until ya get a V8. My first car technically was my Dad's Grand Am, which is totalled right now due to ***** ice.. woops I mean black ice, I'm just kiddin, don't playa hate. Lol but it was ice, hit a tree. So maybe its tru to have a slower car as first, but man, you're gonna want a V8. I mean I get enough slack for having an AUTOMATIC, big friggin deal, it shifts for me, their cars can't even break tranny mounts, they'll never kno tru power. Trust me, if you get a V6, a lot of people will say aw man ya shoulda gotten a V8. Or your car will be deemed the "bitch car". But if ya really want a V6 with a passion then get it! But if you have any second thoughts, then wait! And find the right one man, you won't regret it at all!!!

You might want to ask this question on the V6 board where we are more accepting of the V6. Personally, I think for a first car you would be right in going with a V6. True, they aren't super fast, and most 8's would smoke them, but you also have to look at other things: price of gas, insurance, maturity(I know for a fact that if I had bought a V8 when I first got my liscense, I would have killed myself. Not trying to call you immature, I'm just saying that you like to have "fun" with your first car, and fun with a V8 can sometimes be too much fun) among other things. And there are things that you can do to the V6 to make it faster then the times that these guys quoted. If you wanna go super fast, then yes, go with the 8. If you want to have a good car that gets you where you want to go, saves you money on gas, and probably saves you money on speeding tickets, then get the 6.

All I know is that I'd have gotten a bit more TnA in High school if I had my firebird instead of a Honda Civic Wagon... Ahhh memories

I beat the **** out of that civic LOL... if it hadn't dropped a cylinder I would have kept it and made it the funniest ***** ever!

You ever seen a dropped black civic wagon w/ spoiler and giant H emblem on rear windsheild? Man I miss that car some times.
