How to launch auto in a race?

I was wondering, how do you guys launch your 700R4? My friend may get ahold of his G/F's late 80's early 90's RX7 5 speed convertible. I think they aren't too fast(it's N/A), seeing as I have a 305 TPI 700R4. What do you think? REALLY close or kinda close or not at all? I've never really raced before. Just lookin for some pointers. Hope I don't get arrested/ticketed either, just got my license

If you just got your license then DONT go racing even at the track get used to the car drive it in the snow and rain and when can spin the car and stay withing two lanes and all that good stuff then go for it, Im 18 and know all this from experiance, then just find a country road and practice your launches and get the tire spin down to a miminal then you are good to go.

left foot on brake and right on gas for the launch (just enough that you 'tighten' the suspension up) , I'll assume you don't know your shift points to good so just put it in Drive not Over Drive

Like said, I just put my left foot on the brake and have my right already on the gas. I don't raise my rpms any since of the steep first gear and having 3:73s.

Yeah, i don't really want to race yet. It'll be straight line, but still, I really think I should know my personal limits, and the limits of my car first.... that make sense to u guys?

Makes perfect sense, I totaled my first car showing off in a parking lot, just didn't know the car's limits.
One of my biggest regrets.

I have found that the best way to find my car's limits was to go to an autocross. For those of you who do not know, this is a small course set up in a parking lot with cones, and are usually between 45 to 100 seconds long per lap. This allows you to drive drive only as hard as you want, and if you do lose it, speeds rarely get over 50mph peak and mostly under 30mph. Also, a lot of the guys who race there are very good drivers and will be more than willing to help you be a better driver. BTW you race against the clock, there is usually only one car on course, or if it is set up right two widely spaced cars.

A good way to find one in your area is to go to www.scca.org and look up your area. your car needs to be in good mechanical condition (no obvious leaking, and battery must not be able to flop around). Helmuts are provided (at least here they are) if you don't have your own.

you should take care of the care kind aeasy

least if he was stock
those things weigh a lot of a rx-7
thinkin something like 3000-3100 lbs for a 89-91 conv

and iwth only 160 hp backing it up it is good for about 0-60 in 8-9 seconds and the 1/4 at about high 16's I am GUESSING

not sure on the stats for a vert

though there are a few out there that could give you a good run for you money

have a guy around here I have only seen him once with a huge *** PP port done to his 1rst gen rx-7 (2200 lbs) running at about 280-320hp in a 1.2L N/A
