Rear ends...What to look for?

Ok other than a nice tall blonde with long legs that can fit into less than a size 4 dress, what should I look for when purchasing a entire new rear end.

In my car I currently have the low ball rear end they offered (2:73??? and no posi) and I am looking to upgrade to something a little more agressive, not planning on doing it right now, probably in the next couple of months. Any suggestions on how I go about finding a good one and what to look for when taking a look at them?. Suggestions????

I have seen 3.27 posi with rear disc brakes rear ends for sale on e-bay all the time... give that a shot. 3.27's are nice... they don't rev when you're cruisin (if you have over drive) and it gives you good take off.

The Borg-Warner IROC rear-end with the rear discs would be a good find. They are touted as being very durable. The only thing to consider about them is that parts are a little more pricey than a regular f-body drum brake rear end.

I have the IROC 3.23 rear end with disc brakes.... Im upgrading to 4.10 gears I think... The only problem is, I have to drive 40 mins to and from work everyday mostly on the highway... I wanna know how bad this is going to kill me for gas.... I have the OD gear, so I dont think it should be too bad, but its a 355 carbureted 750 cfm edelbrock, 1.6 roller rockers, bored over, mild cam, headers, k&n filtercharger, few small things like edelbrock fuel pump, tranny has corvette servo, manual valve body, b&m stage 2 kit.. Will i be raped for gas on the highway or not too bad?

Sorry, I'm guessing my previous post was probably not all that helpful There is quite a few thread's on the big board about final drive gear ratio selection kind of interesting reading,You can probably figure out what your cruise RPM would be w/4.10s using a little math trans O/D ratio x final drive Gearing x Tire hight.(guessing......don't know the exact calculation)
One of the thing's that comes up a lot in the different discussion's is RPM/trap speed at the end of the Quarter and comparing that to the torque curve of the motor. A lot of car's will actually slow down w/numerically lower final gear ratio because they will be between ideal shift point's.........just a thought..........SR

4.10 with a 700R4 is not recommended for a daily driver on the highway. For blasts down the track...very good mod! Too bad we couldn't have dynamically switching rear gears?!?

I had 4.10s in my 85 Z28 with the 700R4. Sounds like our engines were pretty similar as well. I had a set of worked 305 heads on my motor, so the compression was up there, and it helped with the milage alot. I also had a 600cfm carb, which might make an impact as well. I drove my car to the Carlisle swap meet in Pennsylvania, and it wasn't that bad on the highway. Not much topend speed though as 100kph was already over 3250rpms. On trips where I was on the highway alot, I'd could get 400-450kms on a full tank of gas. That was babying the car though, and cruisng right at 100-110kph. I would go with 4.10s again, as I do most of my driving inside the city. But with daily commutes on the hwy I think 3.73s might be a better choice. With either gearset, you should see an improvement in gas milage inside the city. With 4.10s I could cruise at 60kph and rpms would be around 2000. I noticed a big gain in milage inside the city with the 4.10s. Its alot easier for the car to get rolling with those gears
