Does anyone know if $104 CDN is a good deal for a 400 sbc crankshaft that is .030 over (whatever that means) ?

thx,
RP.

Sure I am -- check out my other post "305 stroker". Makes for a 334 cube motor. Uncommon so I find it interesting, appealing. Don't have to change blocks and other stuff. Just internals I think.

DO you have to get a new harmonic balancer ?
Will my factory rods work ?
What about rear main seal ?
Is $104 CDN a good price for a crank ?

thx,
RP.

1. Yes you will
2. No they won't and you are going to need custom pistons
3. You will need the seal adapter from GMPP
4. Yes it is but it's probably a cast POS. Since you plan on buzzing this thing pretty high I'd suggest a forged crank.

$100 isn't bad, but what do you mean its .030" under? Has it machined on the mains or rod journals or both? Not sure what tolerances you can run on either, but I haven't seen many cranks with more than .020" taken off.

You'll need a new balancer and flexplate for a 400 SBC, unless you have it internally balanced. Not sure about the rods in the 334 stroker. 305s and 350s share the same 5.7" rod. For a 383 (based on a 400crank 350 block), you need to use the 400 rods, which are shorter than 5.7" to use stock 350 pistons. I can't recall the exact size of the 400 rod, but i think its something like 5.56". You can use the 5.7" rod if you use custom 383 pistons designed for the 5.7" rod.

I sold a 400 crank on eBay in the fall for $125. It was already .010" and probably needed to have another .010" come off again.

Hope this helps

After getting an adapter and getting it machined to fit,the cost will be close to getting an aftermarket with a one piece rear seal..
