I'm back... they failed me on NOX.... they won't tell me how to fix it unless I pay them $80. I have my timing at 6* advanced right now. How can I get it to pass?

They put me down as a 5.9L Hotrod.

Thanks alot for your help you bastards

We turned back the timing, put some heavier springs in the distributor and ran the crap out of the car for 1/2 hour before the second test.

I passed the second test.... BARELY.

When I was running the crap out of it, I blew the manifold gaskets out of one side.... this could also be why I passed the second time.

We're in the process of cutting out the convertor and replacing the manifold gaskets right now.

I'd be willing to bet a good percentage of TPI powered cars will fail. The majority of the TPI cars I have ever seen do not run properly. Mine included

there has to be a reason why TPI cars don't run right... its not like they come from the factory running like crap, right? The small fuel leak in my tank may contribute to my cars poor emissions... I hope to get it fixed next week, hopefull they can just re-braze or solder, the filler neck back in snug.

The convertor is histrory... I'm going to go office space on it (like when they bashed the printer). My car sounds a billion times better without the convertor. I don't hate it anymore.

My e-test is coming up this year...I passed with flying colours 2 years ago and I can see why I'd have any problems this year. Glad to see you passed though Johny

congrats on the pass man.you passed by 1 point on the HC carbon test that last time.....that is what i call cutting it close. so the car sounds better now eh? no more family sedan sound? give that converter a good pounding with the 10 lb. sledge. i picked up some hooker aero chambers on friday...so hopefully this week i can get my mechanic to help me put together my new exhaust. did you notice an improvement in power when you took the converter off?

My GTA passed emmisions in September with a burnt
wire too I had it running mint, tune up,
oil change, new Cat. and I burnt a wire on my way
to the test I passed on the HC by one or two points.

I don't need another test until 2003. Maybe I'll have a new engine by then

I gotta hear the aerochambers when you get 'em installed. My exhaust sounds kinda "dynomaxish" right now. I have the flowtech terminator. I can't tell anymore what mods make my car faster because all it does is smokes the tires. We gotta make our way over to Sparta next week-end for that test & tune.

BTW did you say you are looking to sell your megashifter?

yeah i was thinking about selling the megashifter, but i was able to return it for full refund at good old crappy tire. so some of that went to the aerochambers. i decided the shifter was too much money for what it was.

sorry about that, if i still had it i would have gladly sold it to you.

yeah i would really like to go to the test and tune. hopefully i will get the aerochmabers installed this week.

so it sounds like you are going to have to invest in some traction stuff eh? (imagine the tire spinnage when you get some headers and a good y-pipe on there).

bucking the trend

I have to dig up last years emission test results. I passed by a KW country mile. Had lots of room in every category as I remember, hydrocarbons, nox and CO. And that was with two injectors going south. Ended up replacing all 8 injectors later I might add.

I had 61k on the car when it passed. It runs just great now (AcceldZ) and is a blast up to about 80mph after which it pretty much needs another 45 cubes but that is another story...
