Needs minor body work
Rebuilt Tranny
New Brakes
New Tires (all 4)
New Shocks
New HeaterCore
New Radiator
New Heater
New Front Fender (replaced rusting one)
Fixed stearing tilt and front stearing
Interior in good condition (except rip on driver seat)
New Sway bars


Problem:
A connecting rod cracked.
305 still works, but will go sometime.

i think you should get the 350. then you would have a fast car.

Well the 350 that would of saved my car was sold.
So im sick of looking, its time to say goodbye to my baby.

Im selling it for about $1000
Im keeping The deck in there also.

well....

no offence...but a high milage 88 camaro with a busted 305 isnt worth that much to sell and will be hard to sell, at least to someone who wants to drive it. thats why i think you should get a new engine (350). however i see you have put alot of new stuff on there, so if you find some who has a nice motor to drop in there, you might make a little coin.

i just think that you should get a new motor in there. if you get some one to help you put it in it will be a real learning experience.....plus you will end up with a car you can really enjoy and you can learn even more stuff about cars by working on and maintaining your new motor.

yes ive asked for help and yes I looked for engines and yes they either there crap or they arent worth it.
My last hope would be to buy a Camaro for 400 bux and get that engine swapped

but than the emissions on the carbd 1982 305.
Its not a motor that I really want to mess with, with the lacking 40hp that I used to get with my 305. I rather grab a 350.
But there is no 350 worthbuying right now.

Its funny, people offer help when everything is cool, but when something goes wrong, nobody even talks to u.

i can understand your frustration...but it will be worth it in the end. when you find a nice 350 and get it in your car and you take it for a drive you will thank yourself for keeping the car. hang in there, it will work out.

 

Dave, Everyone went out of their way to help you find an engine. They are not hard to find. I bought my 4-bolt block for $100. I was happy when I smoked my 305.

I got the last Tri-Ad, and there were a pile of 350's in there.

If your car had less rust, I would buy it in a second, but as is... you're better off to get an engine and fix it up yourself.

Maybe you should consider storing your car until you're ready to build an engine.

Camarodave, Here's my .02 cent's,
1) You already own the Camaro
2)Your asking $1000.00(you will likely get $700.00 max)
3)a remanufactured engine (crosstown engine rebuilder's,etc,etc)goes for approximately $1000.00 w/Warrenty
4) there are ton's of places/people that will re and re an engine for $500.00
5) if you sell your 'maro what's it get you? Even assuming you have another say two grand kicking around your still only going to be buying someone else's P.O.S and will be back in the same position within month's(I can almost guarentee it)
So in conclusion for $1500.00 you could have a new motor(stock,but new) or you can sell ,have $700.00 in your pocket and maybe get yourself a spiffy rusted out chevy sprint or equivalent hey it's your choice.

,THERE ARE/WERE A LOT OF GUY'S ON HERE THAT GAVE YOU USEFULL ADVICE BUT FOR THE MOST PART YOU IGNORED IT) You act like it is our responsibility to come to your house take you by the hand,show you how to use the phone ,read a paper drive you to wrecking yard's etc . Yes guy's will help you but first you have to help yourself. Most of the guy's on this board learned how to work on car's by......are you ready for this......WORKING ON CAR'S!!!!!!!!
Whatever you decide is most certainly your choice,if you decide to fix it and have question's by all mean's ask us we'll help you out with information ,idea's, experiance etc but don't be surprised if we don't all drive through the night to get to your house to fix it for you while you stand around ..............SR

But I really want to buy a IROC
and im not willing to spend like 1000 bux on IROC rims here.
AND even thou lets say I buy a 350 from the tri-ads, there old crappy engines that need work also. And what horsepower would u get out of them? 150hp out of a old Buick or something.
Thats why I dont want to buy a 350 out of the tri-ads. cause they are junk. I got a quote on a rebuild for my 305. iTs like 1000 bux so far. I mean heck, thats the dumbest thing to do is get it redone for 1000bux. I need a paintjob, body work sometime.

Belive me I want to keep the car,but i rather pick up a Camaro.
Im going tommorw to check out a Camaro IROC hopefully.
Its $2200, its in hamilton, its got some front end damage.. will see how bad it is, the guy is even supplying the parts. There is a YELLOW IROC selling in toronto for $2500 which I was thinking of looking at. There is also a Beretta that I want to buy. YOu know wht I mean. I could just buy a POS 400 dollar Camaro down the street, but its junk hah.

The berretta's all right but trust me on this if you find it difficult to work on your Camaro(no offence intended) you DON'T want to try working on a berretta (trust me on this Ive been there done that) ..............

ok yo I bought a Tri-Ad agian... thats 6 bux on tri-ads that Ive spent already haha.

I called a bounch of people today for engines and I checked out a IROC also.

ok the IROC was in rough shape.

The engines were all crap, every single one of them.
Im calling one more person tommorw...


seems taht he has a Camaro with a 5.7L engine


They didnt make a 5.7L engine until 86
this car is a 85 Z-28 (as it says)
im gonna call him tommorw at 10:30 in the morning..

 

I've still got the 305 LG4 I pulled from my 86 TA. It needs a flywheel or flexplate, depending on your trans, and it ran alright last time it was in the car. It did smoke alittle on start up though. I dropped a 350 into my car, so I pulled the 305.

If you need an engine and want it, you can take it for free. You won't win any races with it, but at least it would get you mobile. Then you can save your coin for a newer motor or car or what ever.

My cousin says it would work but its not very good or somewhat like that. i heard different, can someone confirm this to me?

Dave the lg4 has no computer so a swap would be easy and my advice would be to leave it carbed, (easier to work on)

guys whats your opinion carbed lg4 or tbi lg4?

 

If you really want a motor, I know a guy who has a 305 TPI complete motor including the fuel take and everything needed to convert. Only $800.

but offering is the easy part.. this guy ranges 0.07 post per day

I'm on all the time. I just never post. Heck I probably spend more time on this board than most other people when I'm online. I don't have the net at home, so I read it when I'm at work. My email is in my profile, which i also read every day.

I work nights so I'm free in the day if you want to have a look at the motor or pick it up. I'll need a couple days notice though, as the motor is at my parents, and I've got to get my TA out of the garage to get the motor out as well. I've got a freinds hoist in the garage, so we can lift it into what ever vehicle you want, if you still want the motor.

If you plan to sell the car, don't take the motor. I can always find a use for it down the road.

Another problem for me, is how will I get the motor up here.
I dont got a pickup truck
none of my buds got a pickup
and the person who was going to install it for me, has no time anymore.

Like Paul mentioned, anything with a decent sized trunk should do. A mini van or station wagon would be perfect.

When i had the 350 done up for my old 85 Z28, I took the entire motor to the machine shop in my moms old Acura Integra. I fit the block in the trunk, the heads, pistons, and misc stuff in the back seat and the crank on the passenger seat.

 

My friend has a big Buick Lesbare 85.. Its got a massiveeeee trunk!!!

But he dosent want that in his car...
and my friend has a van but I mean Its his dads van and I dont want it to get all messy.

If this is a big enough issue for you, you will find a way to do this.I don't mean any disrespect to you, but I have been following your posts now for quite some time. These guys on this board have been very generous with the free advice, MORAL support and even a free engine to get you back on the road.How many of your friends have been able to offer you all that? This is starting to sound like a soap opera.These guys deserve better than that. I can really appreciate your delemmas, I myself have alot of issues that I need to resolve and I have limited funds.But I will work them out, as should you. Where there is a will, there is a way, and only you can find it. Good luck with which ever decision that you come to.But make a firm decision and stick with it. We will still be here and from the sounds of it, they haven't given up on you, so don't give up on them.

 

I'm interested in buying your car. Just wondering if it's an auto or stick.
