modified vehicle ruling
just heard an interview on cbc with a judge from peterborough about a case that, i guess, finished today. a 4x4 gm pickup with about a 20" lift by the sounds of it was involved in an accident and ended up going over a car it ran into, killing the occupant.
tragic, yes, but the reason i'm writing is the way the judge spoke about modified vehicles, a subject of interest to us all...
his claim was that these 'monster trucks' are built for 'climbing and crushing'... remember we're not talking about gravedigger here, just some guy with some lift and a set of mudders. he spoke of 'fuel lines being more prone to damage' and 'increased instability of the frame' and all kinds of nonsense. he ended by saying that the jury reccommended removing all such vehicles from ontario roads.
now being a professional driver i admit i'm a bit sensitive to people blaming trucks or other vehicles or roads or weather conditions for 'accidents'.
i'm a firm believer that if one gets in an accident, it is because one is either operating one's vehicle in an unsafe manner, or not paying adequate attention to other traffic or road conditions. that can be a subject for another post if you want, but i digress.
my concern is what happens when there are a few more street race deaths or court cases from the ones that have already occurred? will any car with shiny rims or a throaty exhaust be persecuted as a 'race' car? will a non-stock engine, suspension, or windshield sticker cause our babies to be booted from the road?
as my 'maro is a daily driver, my plans are to walk softly and carry a big stick, so to speak, but there are many very nice and very obviously modified cars on this board that i would hate to see turned into trailer queens...:nono:
my point? not much i guess other than to give y'all a heads-up. drive safely and leave yourself an out.

Bad news... not good for ricers mostly.. most of us keep a fairly stock appearance.. on the inside is what counts...
Nice to see another fellow 88 SC TBI driver! Daily driving just wouldn't be the same in any other car...
