Rear axles, need help.

Well the worst has been confirmed. At the last Dyno Day, the guys noticed my rear rim was wobbling a bit. I forgot about it afterwards, but recently I remembered that I should have it checked out, especially since dyno day is on Sat. I took the car into my mechanic for a wheel balance(which it needed), but when I mentioned the rim, he put the car in gear while it was still on the hoist. Sure enough, a possible bent axle or possibly, but not too likely, a severely warped rotor. The caliper is moving as the rotor hits against the brake pad. It isn't too major, my mechanic said that when it's time to do the brakes, I should do the axles too. He also said that I will probably destroy the rotor getting it off the axle, so there is no use trying to do it now. He didn't seem to overly concerned.doesn't really matter as I can't afford to fix it anyways. What does a new axle cost and where can I get one? The dealerships don't carry the axles for our cars anymore, so I will have to get an aftermarket one. What is entailed with re/re an axle. Tips? Help? I would appreciate any thoughts...

If you have a 9 bolt..Its just a matter of taking bolts off the hub and pulling the axle out..No need to even open the diff. cover.

I have the 9 bolt 7 3/4", but I also have rear disc brakes. I am not sure which bolts you are referring too. I will have to take a closer look at it. If you could give me a few detailed instructions, that would be great. I was told that in order to replace the axle, I needed to remove cover, remove two bolts and an 8mm pin(which will break if it has'nt already) and two c-clips.Then the axle will slide right out.
How much and where do I get another axle?

9 bolts dont have the clips(full floating)This is one of the reasons why this diff is stronger than the 10 bolt..I have the same exact setup as you.IIRC Take the disc off and youll see the bolts for the axles..could be through the backing plate though. If you can wait a month Ill be swapping differentials and you can buy one of my axles for cheap..check out Miles' website for prices..

I can definitely wait a month or two even, I can't afford to fix it right away anyhow. Who is Miles and where is his site? Let me know when you have them out, I may even take both, as the other axle has a very slight wobble in it. Thanks Daz...

I have a 3.27 posi BW 9 bolt. I called around today to see what was out there and how much? The one autowrecker quoted me $125.00 but they wanted the money upfront. They had to order it in from another wrecker out of town. Not that it matters, can't afford anything right now.I also asked them about floating rear axles and they told me that Camaros came with the c-clips and the Firebirds came with the floating axles. Like I said, I haven't looked close enough to see what exactly I have.In order to do that I need to take the rotors off and they are seized pretty good. Anyhow, let me know if they are compatable. I will also check out that site.

If you had a bigger budget- you could order brand new axles (custom cut) from Bear's Performance in Windsor- but I think for a basic 'copy' of the factory 9-bolt type axle- you'd be in the ballpark of $250.00 per axle for a better-than-stock unit.
