I was never a fan of the siamesed look...and I'm pretty sure you've got to do a lot of porting for both the plenum and manifold to take advantage of them, no?!?
Nathan: haha...so does that mean you're not gonna polish mine this winter?!?

I'd take the SLP's over everything but the ASM siamese runners. The casting does need some cleanup out of box but the design is sound. These runners work best on engines that have had a cam swap or other work.
Cast runners have resulted in people losing hp not from size but from heat soak... Theres been issues with people claiming that with the heat of doing track runs fairly close to each other ETs would go up due to heat. I would believe it too... Those stock tube runners cool down fast. Infact if you pop your hood after driving they wont even be warm except near the intake base due to heat from the valve covers and heads probably.
Cant beat the look of a polished set though
.
Ya iroc2nv thats what the runners are.
Those AS&M tube runners (also the same as tpis large tube runners, AS&M makes them for tpis) cant be beat IMO if your trying to build power with a stock type base, runner and plenum setup. You need to do alot of port matching but the results are pretty decent for 350s. Thats what I am hoping to do If I have any more left after paint and suspension this winter.
Thats an amazing price for those though... Polishing them would be eaaasy. No cracks or anything. It would probably be cheaper to get them polished by a pro than to get slp to do it anyway
. If I went with these I would definately try to route fresh air from the hood to them somehow. It would definately help cool the base and heads at the same time too.

Why only 89-92??
I have runners on my 87!?!?!?!
Quote:
"Chevrolet/Pontiac: 1989-92, Camaro, Corvette, Firebird, 5.0L/5.7L, cast aluminum intake runners"
"Fits 1989-90 TPI motors only."
Are the runners different on the 89-92's??? This I cannot see but maybe I am wrong...

Personally if it was me I would not buy these in that situation. The tpi system was made for a 305 (they actually planned on scrapping the 350 tpi in the fbody idea at the time, thank the heavens they didnt). So 350s are a bit choked by it. I would port the plenum and maybe fix the tube to flange ridges in the runners but until you do ALOT of mods on a 305 the runners wont be a restriction. By alot of mods I would say like heads, cam, exhaust, plenum porting, base porting/aftermarket and a CAI. Thats all IMO.

If I still had the long runner set up my choices would be.....
1. ASM semi siamese, not the large tubes.
2. SLP's after having them cleaned and ported to fix the little core shift problem they seem to have.
Greg, where did you find out about the heat soak problem? It makes sense. The GM runners are extrusions while most of the aftermarket runners are cast (not ASM).
As food for thought, whenever GM used to do a Raceshop thirdgen they allways used siamesed runners. Even the planned 25th anniversary RS used a set of siamesed runners and that car was being planned for production. I've wanted to get my hands on a set of stock runners to see if I could siamese them with some aluminum stock but I havn't found a cheap set yet.

Ive read about it in a couple spots but the latest was a tpi board post I think.
AS&M semi siamesed would be nice but more for hp. IMO if your going for hp with torque at a loss just dump the tpi system for super ram (like you did) or LT-1.
You should be able to siamese the stock runners if you can weld up aluminum good. AS&M makes amazing stuff but its daaaamn pricy thats for sure.
I wouldnt mind finding a square inch stick of AL and tying it to the runners on one side, running it hard and taking the temp of the runners on one side and the tube on the other side. Seeing is believing type of person I guess.

ROVIC...YOU STILL WANT MY IROC HOOD? i should have a new hood in a couple of months... then i get get more flow(with the runners) and a new intake manifold as well..
