Sept 21 Bragging rights from Sparta

Ok I'll Start it off I figure about the only bragging I will get to do is that I posted the first times on the board from Sparta.

The old V6 ran the following

60ft. 2.7
330 ft 7.746
1/8 mile 11.359
1/8 mile 60.39mph
1/4 mile 18.329
1/4 mile 76.32 mph

About the only thing good about this is there is plenty of room for improvement.

So what did the rest of you do?

Drumroll please... and my final results...
Well out of 10-11 runs, this is my best

My car is a stock 92 Z28 with nothing but K&N filters. It's a 305 TPI 5-speed.

I had engine problems, well more along the lines of fan problems, the engine was running hot all day because the stupid fan was screwed up. But here's the best result anyway!

Nothing much to brag about...

0.534 RT
2.264 60'
15.718 1/4
90.81 1/4 MPH

All I can say is Ratchet that V6 has nothing on me stock for stock Neither do stock LG4's!

I'm glad though, I kicked my personal best from last track day on my second run.

15.7's all day, I thought I ran a 15.6xx but since I can't find the slip, I can't say that I did or didn't oh well...

The peanut cam manages to impress me still, but I think I've hit the wall for outer mods... sure posi and lca's can help, but I'm not sure I want to invest in those... them fourth gen ls1 engines are really tempting me lately...

while i am not happy with my times, i am fairly pleased. i ran a 14.26 @ 98.71 and had i run where i broke 100 mph (14.49 @ 100.41). i know there is way more in my motor. its needs traction and more tuning. i just got it running last night.

however, i was not trying to do this on purpose, it was my very first run with the slicks and my first run with the new motor. i wanted to see how it would launch if i rev it up and put the gas down when the light went green. i was hoping for somemore traction than i got. but at least it gave me an idea of how much traction, or lack there of, i had. i apologized to all 3 guys working the track there and assured them it was unintentional. i wasnt trying to hot dog or show off....i am not like that at all.

I don't know, I don't know.

The more I try to understand this the more I get confused. I hit, surprisingly, 15.2 in ET. I was however averaging 89mph. I also hit 90mph three times so the last one was no fluke. My confusion is this...If I ran an 89mph last track day and got a best time of 15.6 than how did I get a 15.2 at 89mph at this track meet. I don't have my time slips with me so I'll post more accurate numbers tomorrow.

What bugs me even more is that when I did hit 90mph the three times I had slower ET's than my best run, in the 15.4 range, and my 60ft times were all 2.3's. If only I got a 2.2 60ft plus hit 90mph I would really get my true time for a best run. I honestly believe I could have hit 15.1.(according to Daz's formula) Plus I tried johnny's slicks, thanks again man I owe you, at the end of the day and it didn't help. Couldn't figure out why I ran so slow with slicks, 15.6. Anyhow, I hope it's fair to say that had I ran with slicks earlier in the day when the motor and phlenum were cooler I should have been able to hit 14's. Am I on crack by saying this or am I valid??

Have you done any tuning or mods since the last drag day? That is a significant drop in ET. Did you try shifting differently or something? How were your 60' times at the last drag day?

As for the MPH, don't sweat it. The better the 60' & ET, the lower the MPH usually. My MPH is all over the place... but seems to be averaging out around 101 now.

In regards to the slicks... they are pretty much useless unless you either have a high stall or enough low end power to spin the slicks. If they hook with a stock stall... you will bog and go slower. They are also more resistance on the big end. The height of them also makes your effective gear ratio worse. The only reason they work at all for me is because I spin them up to 3,500RPM off the line.

Thanks John. Yes that was a significant drop in ET time. If I tell you the mods I did to shave 4 tenths will knock you off your chair because I don't considerate big and it was free.

Mods done since last track meet:

Throttle body coolant bypass
Removed Maf screens
17" all around and P275/40/17 on the rear

= - 4tenths in ET
cost= $0

Again, NO B/S. There was no other mods!

Same shifting techniques. 60ft time dropped from 2.3(average) to 2.2.

As for the slicks........I guess my 3.08 gears are pretty useless. For sure with slicks AND 3.73's posi I would be able to pull off a better 60ft and the benefits from the slicks would be more noticeable.
