exhaust crossover on the y-pipe

Have any of you been down this road before ?

I was looking at a Y-pipe for my car and it occured to me that they are grossly uneven length. Now if you've been around awhile you'll remember in the old dual exhaust days a cross-over was the first thing you did (well right after headers) to tune your exhaust. This was to balance out the irregularities caused by uneven pipe runs.

My left y-pipe is about twice as long as my right y-pipe and I am wondering if it will help to install something along the lines of what we used to call an 'H-pipe' or 'cross-over' between the two pipes.

The typical 3rd gen y-pipe looks something like this (see pic below). There is precious little room for one but it could be done.

Your thoughts ?

well first of all it would be a hella of a lot of work and second i really dont think it would be worth it. the y-pipe just runs into a single pipe anyway. if you are going to an h-pipe, do a dual system like mine. i never bothered putting an h-pipe in cause i didnt want to deal with the hassle. perhaps in the future i will. but as for the y-pipe i really dont think it would make any difference.

H-pipe.... Y-pipe.... SCREW THAT! Get a friggen O-pipe. They outflow H or X any day.... and you still get the backpressure.

In all seriousness though... "H"ing your Y-pipe will not help anything. One pulse will still need to take a longer path wether it goes through the H or not.

A cross over before the 2-into-1 junction would be pointless. The pulses equalize when they converge into the single pipe.

Just as an FYI.........SLP's y is not the one they sell with the headers.

Who's exhaust is that? It's allmost as ghetto rigged as mine.
