Park it for the winter or drive it ?
I was curious how many of us drive their f-body year round and how many park it and drive the beater ?
I will be putting my Firebird away in 2 weeks. I would have put it away next week (after Thanksgiving) but there is a guy from Pontiac Hi-Performance magazine coming to take some pics of it next week so I'll be late this year.
Out with the Firebird and in with the Toyota (Tercel). 93hp, slow, wallows in the wind -- in fact a good cross wind will knock it off the road the tires are 155/80 13s hahahahahahahahahaha... but it works fantastic in the snow ! It sure is an ugly car though.
So what about you ?

Drive it everyday in the winter especially in the middle of a snowstorm and right after they salted the roads..Dont forget to drive on busy streets all the time and keep your insurance slip in a convenient easily accesible area..

I drive mine year round, I especially like leaving the top down when I have to park it in a heavy snowfall situation. That way I don't have to waste time clearing snow off of the roof, I just raise the top and turn the heater on, presto all the snow convieneintly melts away.

I was having CD player problems as well, with all of the extra moisture and all, I just cut a couple of holes in the floor to help get rid of the water a little faster.Helps ventalate the car as well
Im with Daz and zedder on this one. I most definately drive it throughout the winter. Instead of goin for cruzes like I would in the summer I always enjoy finding a salt truck in a storm and following in for an hour or two. That way I get a nice thick coating so when it snows it instantly turns into water, therefore keeping all that rust prone snow off my car. The bald 275s really like the snow too...

Christine gets parked. The Sunfire becomes my sole means of transportation. It prolongs the life of the Camaro and I appreciate her that much more come springtime after driving a 4 cyl all winter.
To all of you who do drive, year 'round, I've got some gorgeous Blizzaks for sale! Email me for info.

I park it in the winter... Hell I park it in the summer if there's a chance of rain that day. It's a good way to keep the mileage down.
My lil Jimmy sees a lot of road time all year round. Speaking of which, we're going offroading tomorrow. Here's hoping I don't get him high-centred again.

I find that the 2" drop on my car and the lower front spoiler give my car excellent snow plow capabilities, it makes cleaning the driveway out after a big snow storm soo much easier

There was some guy out near Altona who actually had a plow attached to the front of a Camaro which he used to clear the laneway up to his farmhouse.
I guess he was really into the Red Green show or something.

After waiting 2 or 3 minutes for this darn thread to load, I now remember why I don't come here too often. Everybody wants to post their favorite pictures! Even SUVs for christsake!!!!!
Anyway, to reply to this topic, If you love your thirdgen, most certainly store it. If you have an inexhaustible supply of thirdgens and don't mind putting up with a bit of bodyrot, go ahead and drive it through the winter, but be prepared for some tough sledding if we ever get a real winter again.
I bought my previous thirdgen (an '83 Z28) in November 1986. It was my second Camaro since 1968 and I sure didn't want to store it right away. I thought showing up at the ski hill with a Z28 instead of the old beater Dodge van would be cool. But as winter progressed, it all came back to me. One bad morning the 10 minute drive to work took me 1.5 hours! I remembered my '68 being stuck on ice on a perfectly flat surface and I had to get out and push it while idling in 1st gear. Visions of the rear end crabbing into the ditch on icy hills with the posi all locked up. Do I have to draw a picture? Anyway, that was the last winter for that car. Fortunately, it had been originally Ziebarted and no permanent damage resulted. Even so, I did get it oil sprayed a few times after that to ensure any trapped salt molecules could do no harm. That car lasted me 13 years with no rust, until it was totalled. If I'd driven it any more winters, it wouldn't have lasted half that long and would have died a rustbucket. It's your choice.

You're lucky I don't post pics of what I did to my Jimmy last weekend. At the end of the trip I need a new tire, I ripped off a fender flare, pulled off half of another, my front bumper is pushed a good inch and a half in on one side, small crumple on the fender, a dented nerf bar, more scratches than I can count, and an awful lot of mud. Hey one clean, pretty vehicle is enough.

As for the 'bird, it's getting damned cold lately. It's just about time to put her away for the winter. C'mon, one more nice day with the tops off is all I ask...
