lol don't buy one the car is garbage worst car ever made my buddy has one, his is rusted out to **** sounds like a honda and he got a license plate that said "TMPNATOR" lol
I've always had good luck with the GM 2.8/3.1 engines.
So far my family has had 4 of them:
87 Chev Celebrity (2.8 V6) - 460K before we decided not to fix a gas tank leak.
89 Chev Celebrity (2.8 V6) - 390K when it blew a valve
92 Chev Lumina (3.1 V6) - 350K when the transmission blew towing a heavy trailer
93 Pontiac Grand Prix (3.1 V6) - currently has 220K on it.
None of these cars burned much oil at all - usually about 1L between 5K oil changes.
And my current winter beater - 89 Grand Prix (2.8 V6). Has 190K on it and doesn't seem to burn oil.
As always with a GM, the little things will break. Expect alternators/rads/other little stuff to go every once in a while. Most of it isn't expensive to fix yourself.
Also make sure it does NOT have the 4 wheel disc brakes. They are a nightmare (and yes my current beater has them).
If it does make sure to get the rear calipers serviced at least once a year.
Hope that helps,
Mark

to the best of my knowledge its the family car barretta...(means that its the family version of the barretta)
runs ok, i think they are all auto...and they are good motors...just be sure not to spin the crank..(done that 2 times thus far with 2.8L motors)
if its a good price and not much has to be fixed...buy it up

My buddy owned a Tempest... what year is the one you are looking at?
Things to look for in a Tempest...
- Water leaks through the firewall, puddling on the passenger or drivers floors.
- As for rust, look at the rockers, door cills, and hood.
- Give the car quick jolts of acceleration to check for bad motor mounts.
- Coil packs like to go on those cars as well.
- Injectors are also a weak point.
- Then the already mentioned stuff that GM cars always need replacement.
- I highly doubt your car has 4 wheel discs, because Tempests didn't come with them in the early years, or in the later year, as far as I know.
- When you hear it run.. make sure you hear running when its cold, this is when you'll hear any engine knocks, or notice bad coils and injectors

Well the guy sold it anyways..
it was 750 bux
cert. and emission
and the body was in good shape, except for a small dent in the front left fender.

I had an 89 Beretta until 99. Decent car, again with the alternators. A friend at work has the Corsica. His is manual. He likes his. The military used them for "Staff Cars" until about 3 years ago. But yeah, disposable cars. GMs answer to the Tempo/Topaz line. For 750 cert and e tested. You could do worse...
