Thanks for the reminder.
Forgot how dishonest the towtruck profession is.
Let this be a lesson to us all.
Get YOUR car towed to YOUR body shop...
...because they'll lead you to believe anything.

Pacer...

PS CAA has saved me a couple of times...

OK, fair enough, not all are bad. Some are probably very respectable.
I've never had a problem when calling CAA either.
But, examples like this paint a bad picture for the business.
When it comes to accident chasing, there aren't a lot of heart warming stories to tell....

I'm with CAA too. Some of the guys around here are not the most honest folks, but through CAA you're covered. I have heard some real horror stories. They even did a little info thing at work that included a section on how not to get ripped off. Sad, eh? Even with CAA though, if you go to one shop, and then have it taken to another- you're paying for that second tow. Best of to do some one stop shopping if possible.

I agree with Z-drr-guy, not all of them are ******, like anywhere you have your ****** and you have your honest guys just making a living. I have been helped out by a couple of really good guys over the last couple of years when these guys could have really jammed me just cuz I was in a pinch!

Like you guys mentioned below, make sure it gets towed to the shop YOU want it to go to..... and if they "insist" it has to be towed somewhere else, tell em if they hook the car up and tow it is equivalent to stealing since you didnt authorize it. Just sit tight and wait another 2 min and I am sure another rig will be by and willing to take it to your shop!

Just a note: If this tow was required as a result of an accident- the "standard" removal/tow charge in the GTA when police are present is $250.00- i.e. what they can bill to an insurance company. If you take too long getting the car off the scene (i.e. waiting for a tow company that's not yet arrived) and the cops say to get it out of there- you (or your insurance company in the event of an accident) may very well be forced to pay $250 to a tower you don't even want to use. Too bad- but that's the 'cost' of keeping the roads from getting plugged up.

If this was just you calling around just to move your car from location 'A' to location 'B' (i.e. no accident or police request to remove it from a road)- use anyone you want and get a clear price up front. For a standard tow that distance $200.00 was definetly way too high.
