Engine detailing question..

I'm at the point now where i can Paint my heads and block. What is the best way of doing this? Also what is the longest lasting High Temp paint? I really don't want to have to pull the motor again just to paint it anytime soon. Wire brushing it sould be fine enough to clean/prep it right?
Who has done this with good results? Tell me your story....

Hey Jordan. Are the head off the engine??? Much easier if so. Yes a wire brush will work as long as it isn't really bad. The real thing to worry about is grease and oil. I'd use some paint prep or something along that line before you do any painting. The paint I have always used is made by Duplicolor (engine enamel), works great! And last long. I then coat it with Dupilcolrs ceramic clear coat good to 500 degrees, gives it a great looking shine to boot. The main thing is make sure the surface is clean of any loose paints and or greases and oils and you'll be laughin.

Here is mine that I did, excuse the coolant stains, blew the rad at the track.

Well what do you mean it won't wash off?? The stain itself or the actuall bird crap won't come off. The only real thing you can try to do is, let it get soaked, leave a damp rag sitting on it, in your case a hot damp rag, hopefully this will loosen it up for you. That's the bad thing about bird crap...you "Must" get it off as soon as possible. If you leave it sit there and it bakes in even the slightest amount of sun, your gonna leave a mark. Like I said hopefully that will do it for you , but you will probably need to take some kind of light compound or a good wax to get rid of the scratches you are going to make. Yes, there is no way to avoid some minor scratching now. Hopefully it hasn't done too much damage, but your car's white anyway so it may no show up all that bad.

PS. If that doesn't work for you , you could try a bit of gas line anti-freeze and wipe it carfully with a rag. Again, this will most likely leave some light scratching. Gas line anti-freeze also works well at removing tar, tree sap and old stuck on bugs. But will require some polishing and waxing, due to the fact you just removed any waxes and polishes, and left a few light scratches while you were at it.

I've always used a wire brush, then some paint thinner or such to get rid of grease stains, then the regular old CT engine paint in a can. Longest it's been on a block that I know of has been 9 years untouched, and no chips or faded areas.

Well i used the CT style black engine paint for a base coat yesterday and looks pretty good. Now I'm gunna find some Yellow High heat paint for a top coat. This way the block will match the car and will have good coverage. The ****ty thing is, CT Don't make the paint in Yellow, so i'm gunna have to mix two different brands. I just hope chemically the two are compatible.
Afer all the paint is on I'll put on the chrome and take some pics for you guys...

I don't think it will hurt the paint really but any and all dirt and dust will stick to it with ease. I wouldn't put that on it anyway. I know people who use to use WD on oxidized paint. LOL! it kinda worked I guess but WOW here comes the dust. To each their own, but I wouldn't.

Brake CLEANER..not brake fluid. Brake cleaner will work great.
