Neighbours doing burnouts in front of house
What would do if neighbours are slowing down in front of your house to light them up, or burnouts, or flooring it as they go by.
First it was just this one kid with an older Cougar, but now there is a guy with a Thirdgen Z28 or Iroc that is doing the same thing. They think these things are the king of the street, the thirdgen burns oil so bad I can smell it outside when I'm BBQ'ing.
maybe I should just use the truck in the mean time and take 'em both to skool.
Paul knows who I'm talking about.

So are they purposely doing this infront of your house, or his??? Smokey burnouts are ususally cool, but only where appropriate mind you, and someones neighbourhood doens't qualify for that. I would get there platges and call the police and file a complaint. Why race them and get yoruself a ticket by cahnce??

all hours of the night, slow down in font of the house, then idle, then the open it up. It's quite regular in the summer, yesterday, it was the guy with the thirdgen doing it. must be all the sheep influencing in the "hicks" around here...

spike belt maybe?
hard to say really; whatever you do will probably just escalate the conflict, if, as it sounds, they're targeting your house. On the other hand you can't wait for them to give up on it either.
can't see the cops doing anything but maybe they're different where you live.

Well it is noise polution, and also considered wreckless driving. Most cops don't tell people who made the complaint. It could have been anyone of your neighbours who called and complained really.

Yeah true but the clowns with the cars probably aren't going to look at it that way and they're just going to make assumptions about who made the complaint. As for the police, i think it depends where you live - here in toronto they've either got bigger fish to fry or they've adopted the f'ck it drive on policy.

Why not just ask them to do their burnouts somewhere else? Or next time you see them say that the last couple times they were doing burnouts the cops came by and were asking the other neighbours questions looking to press wreckless driving charges. I'd use that as a second option. I'm sure you'd rather just kick *** but when they know where you live it can usually just cause more of a headache later on.

Never hurts to try polite first. Tell em you got kids sleeping? Then you switch to the video camera and put your truck in the garage every night! Hard to say if its worth it, nothing lasts forever after all! Good luck!

This isn't any sort of an exageration. For some reason this one goof in a white Cougar stops and spins his tires in front of Dave's every time he drives by. It's kinda weird actually.

I'm not too worried about this goof. I'm probably the smallest guy here on the Ontario board, but I would definately break this "Jeffrey" kid in half if he started getting too brave.
I have though of lighting them up in his driveway one night though, then maybe his mommy and daddy would start asking him questions...
I've gone out and lost it on a bunch across the street before, 10 mins later my house got egged...

Well, maybe have a talk, very politely and maturely, with the kids parents. Maybe if they find out what a goof he's being, they'll straighten it out for you. Let the grown ups talk, and the kids get spanked - literally.

Since we know its fear of reprisal that's makes us hesitate to act (my car sits outside under a cover for anyone to touch) and assuming you can get their attention politely, let them know that you will be/have been video taping their actions but will not turn them over to police until you decide. ie you get egged or it happpens again, etc. This way its you who gets to have the last say. Vicious circle tho
Just ignore it I promiss you it is for the best.
A little story about Ratchet.
Back in the day Ratchet was doing some of the final touches to his V8 Vega (Actually it was an Astre Gt Landou Braughm) out in the driveway when along comes one of his mechanic buddies in his 440 chrysler POS. The buddy stops in front of the driveway and proceeds to lay down a 60 foot smoke show then casually waves and drives away home.
Ratchet thinks to himself no Chrysler guy is going to out do me and jumps in the 73 chev pickup truck 350ci. three on the tree with bald tires on the back. And proceeds to drive down in front of buddies house. Buddies parents happened to live accross the street from him so when Ratchet stopped in front of his house and honked the horn until buddie came outside buddies parents and half the neighborhood had come out to see what the comotion was.
Ratchet thinks to himself all the better. More people to witness the Chrysler boy go down and proceeds to lay down a 105 foot burn out.
Ratchet was watching his buddies reaction to the burn out as he completed his run and was feeling really proud of himself but that was pretty short lived cause just as he turned his head back to the road in front of him he saw the red lights of the cop car that had been parked just around the corner watching the show.
The officer turned out to be an old school mate and was laughing out loud as he wrote the ticket for 105$ one dollar for every foot of the burn out.
So have a good laugh on me and save yourself the embarassment.
Oh yeah the worst part of the story is still to come. After getting the ticket I had to drive home and face my wife who had obviously already been informed of the whoe fiasco because she was waiting in the drive way hands on hips just itching to get a piece of me.
Its kind of funny now but It sure wasn't then.
