Went to Mosport with Oshawa Motorsports Club.

Air was nice and cool so the motor ran real good all day and I got a lot of track time. Ran it really hard too; brakes held up OK - peddle gets a bit soft after about 3-4 laps but no serious fade.

There was a lot of race cars there and about 6 f-bodies; mine was the only thirdgen. Some vibration in the driveline at 5000 rpm - I'm thinking it might be the converter as there's nothing left to replace. The new motor really sounds good with the cutout open and steering with the throttle is a new experience

It was a f'uckin blast - can't wait to go back..lol

I'm gonna CC this to the warranty department at GMPP. That definitely constitutes unreasonable abuse

George, what would you recommend, equipment wise, for anybody looking to get into lapping days?

Lol.. the motor was purchased by a shell corporation and I don't exist.

As for eqipment, all you need is a helmet and a pen so that you can sign the waiver at the track.

People make a lot of noise about expensive brake upgrades - I've been using CT pads and rotors which have lasted for about 6 track days and four S2 events on the stock J65 iron calipers. I bought new Bendix pads a couple of weeks ago but didn't put them on because there was lots left on the old ones and the rotors didn't have any hot spots. So I wouldn't stay at home because my car had stock brakes. If the brakes are in good condition just flush the system with the Ford 550 degree fluid.

Same with tyres; as long as they're not on death's door I'd use them. It would be nice to have good shocks, springs, tyres, SFCs and a steering brace but as long as what you've got is OK there's no reason not to run the car.

Pretty much any decent thirdgen will go well enough - biggest thing is to get started - first time out you're not going to really need the best brakes and tyres etc.

People at track days are usually really helpful and the cars range from race prepped things that arrive on trailers to pieces of schit which will sometimes be surprisingly fast. There was a ugly lookin Monte there which went OK and the guy could drive it.

The biggest difference to my car was the suspensions mods. It was faster than a lot of expensive schit even with the LG4 and stock brakes. Right now it's pretty quick and probably really does need better brakes and a six speed swap but at the same time the car was still barkin all over some Porsches and 4thgens with lots of power and vette brakes on them.

Bottom line though, just do it and don't worry about schit as long as the car is safe.

Yes, I had to forget about the closest place, Mosport!

Cart track?

There were a few strange cars like the old Volvo and a Fiat I think that took every corner on 3 wheels. Those folks still around? I haven't gone in about 3 or 4 years.

It is a lot of fun. Beats the crap out of your car tho. Far worse than drag racing.

This is the Driver Development Track (DDT) which they use for the school / lap days. I think it's close to 2 miles around the parimeter. It has a lot of elevation changes - many of which are in the corners.

I've run on the DDT and the Grand Prix Track. The DDT is much harder on brakes and tyres than the GP Track which is surprising given the speed difference.

Twenty minutes on a road course adds up to eighty 15 second passes although not at WOT all the time but yeah I guess a day at the track probably uses up more of the car than a day at the strip unless you start talking about really high output drag cars.

I have no idea what my car would do the quarter and I don't think it's worth driving to TMP to find out..lol

Victoria Day Monday there's a lap day on the GP Track - think you'll have it ready by then??

My car has a vibration in the driveline which is proving difficult to sort as most everything's been replaced and the new DS has been balanced twice now. Comes in around 5000 rpm in drive - if I don't get it fixed I won't be able to do this one Wasn't a big problem on the short track but I don't want the f'ucker coming apart on the straight at 130mph..lol

hmmmm I had a vibration Gremlin that plagued me once. I took the clutch off and rotated the pressure plate 90 degress and it went away. Sometimes your the bug... sometimes your the windshield. lol

edit: Oh yeah May 24? I can only hope at this point. Wiring is the thing. If I smart and solve yes. If I dum and burn it up. no.
lol
