Balancing Rotating Assembly
Well I bought a new crank, Eagle cast steel, and while everything is out of the mototr thought it would be a good idea to get the rotating assembly balanced.
What would this typically cost, and if anyone knows of a good machine shop please refreance them.
I have heard about Straight Line Racing, has anyone had experience with these guys and what would the charge for this job.
Thanks, Josh.

Is this with stock pistons? The cost depends on how much time they spent removing or adding metal. IT also depends on how much Mallory they have to add.

I know that a 383 rotating assemble is $1500.00 it comes complete with crank, pistons, rods, bearings and flywheel.

I had mine done in Montreal, which is closer to me.
I paid $250 flat. But I din't need any Mallory added. mallory plugs are $$$ and tend to add up if neede, but considering your stating with an aftermarket crank, you should be OK.

$350
Is it a big deal if I don't balance it. For that kind of money I could put it some where else.

Depends on how many clicks are on it or if it was abused. How does it look? All the journals have a nice polished look to them? Inspect it closely. Wouldn't hurt to have it checked. That doesn't cost much at all.

The best $350 you could spend on the motor hands down. I made the mistake of not doing it through 2 rebuilds, then I broke down, I had it done, and kicked myself for not doing it earlier.

Tahts what I was thinking. The motor is for a street car that will see the od 6000 rpm blast but not to often.

There's a reason why assemblies are balanced, and it's not just for racing.
It's your money though, so you can take the extra $250-350 and buy a throttle body for it or something, and get 10hp, or have it balanced and get 10 more years of life out of the motor.

IROC-Z28-CAMARO....spend the $ and have it balanced. This will enhance bearing life if done properly & is definetly worth it, especially if you have the CHOICE of doing it which you dont get in a STOCK GM motor.
