pass etest with a 110lsa cam?
Anyone pass an etest with a 110lsa cam? approx duration 220 degrees? I need an etest before i can get my car on the road. I might just run the stock l98 cam then swap after.
I hope it is possible... I plan on trying it with 240 duration...
Assuming your car is carbed... there are "things" you can do to help it pass.... one being a 3:1 ratio of gasoline to 100% isopropyl alcohol. It got my 83 Delta 88 to pass with 4 cylinder levels.
The other really important thing is you have to have your cat hot.. practically glowing.... this will burn off any raw fuel that makes it into the exhaust. So you need to try and arange it so that you can run the car hard and drive it straight in to the test... or retard your timing to get it glowing.
Other things to try are decreasing the jet size (increase rod size if you have a q-jet) and turning the timing back... but don't turn it back to the point where it doesn't burn the fuel anymore. If it will run happy at 2*BTDC that would probably be good.
If you are fortunate enough to have a set of 1.2:1 "break in rocker arms" those will help also.
These suggestions are all to try AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Thanks for the info. I think i"ll give it a go with that cam, and use some of the tricks listed to try and pass. I've got a quick change cam cover on the motor, so if i don't have any luck I'll just toss in the L98 cam. I'll be running a 750vs holley, so it would just take a saturday to get the cams swapped.
Thanks again

You can get the 100% iso in most drug stores, it just comes in smaller containers.
I filled my tank after running my test using iso. I didn't have any problems other than the cats fell apart and filled my muffler. That may have been due to the fact that they'd been sitting outside behind our shed for 2 years lol.
It works.

Perfect, Thanks Acceld, so if I use a 3:1 Ratio in a 1/4 tank I should be good to go? I don't care about the cats because I am going to punch the out once I pass anyway.

This method is really only for people who have hardcore mods.... if you are relatively stock, you should be able to pass just by making sure everything is properly tuned and getting the cat hot.
*EDIT* Nevermind... I see you are fairly modded... but I think with that cam you could still pass naturally. I know for a fact people have passed carburated with a comp XE268 which has more duration.... assuming you have a good tune, you should be able to pass IMO.
BTW... TSC stores are "The Incredible Country Hardware Store"

91wtROH17, if your still running the LPE219 cam, you'll pass no problem with some isoprpyl. i have never seen a worse idle then what AcceldZ car had at the time, with the same cam, and with some isopropyl and some CATS it passed with flying colors.

What proportion of isopropyl did you guys use? 1 part alcohol for every 3 parts gasoline?

Well boys, I passed!!! No additives needed at all. Just drove the car in and passed with 12 deg of base timing and cats that are not even broken in yet.

I don't have the sheet with me, but my numbers were all around the half way marks, witch in my mind is alot to play with! If I had backed off timing and broken the cats in, I can see those #'s dropping VERY low. Good luck to everyone else who needs it, I am cheering for you.

Congratulations! This is encouraging! Did you have it tested as a "hot rod"?

Hey right on Cory. Those cats being new probably played a big part in it. I was told the same thing 2 years ago. (Had just got brand new cat) I have to go as soon as I bring it out this summer. Hoping my cats are just as happy to clean things up again.
So this means you'll be out with it this summer for some meets???
How about the May Shannonville meet???? I know I'm not the only one wanting to see your car, and at the track at that. Should be fairly strong.

For sure I will be out to some meets, but I am not sure about May yet? The thing is I sold my wheels last year and I am riding around on my friends brand new tires and 16'' rims off of his S-10 that is not built yet. If I have my new wheels by then I will come, but I have to respect my buddies tires.lol I know I keep saying it, but I would really like to me you all!!

I have not even ordered yet cause the funds are low. I am getting close though, they will be the same rims I had ROH RT's, but 18'' with the black ice finish and 10'' wide in the rear. I was going to get something new, but no other rims are really doing it for me... well some do, but I cannot afford 5G's for wheels and tires. I promise it will all fit together and look great, there will be ZERO wheel gap!! Since the meet is late May, I might be able to make that, I could just drive my Honda and watch I suppose.

Get that Visa/Mastercard filled up so ya can have those rims/tires for the meet.
What tires are you going with, and what sizes (I know 18's, but what are you thinking)? Rt's are a nice rim, 18's are too.

I am getting a barely used set of BF G Force KD's for the rear 295/35/18 and the front I will run 265/35/18 but I am not sure of the type of front tire yet. i can't wait!! I cant stand my car with stock rims, no offence to anyone at all, but once you have a nice set of wheels, it sucks going back to stock.
