'92 IROC 3.8L Turbo Project

Hey Guys,

I have a complete setup I will be starting shortly to work on in my garage. (so I can dance with you guys in the spring, lol)

Was kinda hoping someone could offer some advice, or direct me as to where to find engine mounts for this swap. I have the engine portion of the mount, but need the crossmember-mounted half. (both sides) I was considering fabbing up my own, if I can't find them, or find them at a decent price. So far, I cannot find them! Does anyone know where I may be able to find these?
I'm sure there is info on this site somewhere, but I can't seem to find anything relevant. Any help would be appreciated!

Also, I noticed just last night as I took of one of the air ducts from the intercooler pipe mounted on the turbo, the impeller inside the turbo is soo lose, I bet it will eat the housing in a few passes. Basically, I need to either: upgrade the turbo, or have this one rebuilt. Any suggestions, or reccomendations?

I still have a '87 IROC TPI, Auto, parts car (complete) rotting away. Runs good....let me know what you guys need!

Thanks!

Corey.

Sounds like an awesome project

Try here for the mounts....

www.gbodyparts.com
www.johnsperformance.com/

If Brian at GBP.com doesn't have them, he'll know where to get them.

As for the turbo, is the shaft play front-to-back or side-to-side?

A good upgrade is a TE44, TA49, or TE61. They'll all work ok with the stock converter. I have a TE44 from PTE that I love. It spools like the stock turbo but has more potential. The new ball bearing turbos are awesome if you can afford them.

I still have my stock turbo sitting around if you're interested in that.

Register on Turbobuicks.com and go introduce yourself on the Toronto board. Some of those guys really know their stuff and will be happy to help.

Did you try your plain-old GM dealer? Ask for the mounts for the '89 TTA.

Eric, unfortunately, GM is the last place to look for TTA parts. They don't have **** anymore. I'm not even sure that they ever did lol. They don't even have much for the Regals with the LC2 lately.

Would any of you know if the 2.8L mounts would work for this swap? Or maybe part of them?

I was thinking of going with a 3.8 turbo also, I'm pretty sure my dad will know what to use, I'll ask him when I talk to him next. What fuel system do you plan on using?

Hey,

I have the complete stock set-up from the National. I have the fuel pump & sending unit out of that car and was hoping it would fit into a WS6 tank I have. If not, I'll just get the f-body sender.
I also plan on using the injectors that came with it. They are engraved #95. Anyone have any ideas as to what that references to?
I have yet to pull them and check the part#'s, but they look like delphi's.
I also have an adjustable fuel pressure regualtor I rigged up from a tpi fuel rail. All I did was remove it, and got 2 fittings the screw into the regulator housing so I can use it on a multi-port injector setup. (came with Crane Adj. cap)
Would anyone know if wiring up my fuel pump on a direct circuit will reap any benefits? I've heard of people doing so. Does it maintain a slightly higher fp? or does it just help maintain a more consistent fp?

Any suggestions for my fuel set-up is apprecaited..

Thanks guys,

Corey.

Sounds like an idea.. but IF I can identify them & they are un upgrade (sending me in the right direction), I will logically keep them.
I'm pretty sure they are upgraded as my entire engine (-turbo) has been over-worked with pistons, rods, caps, arp everything ect..

Why do you suggest I go stock? (just curious)

Racetronix may be able to help you ID the injectors. I think automorph was trying to tell you not to put a hodge podeg of parts into your fuel system. All it takes is a little burp and you'll be changing head gaskets or worse.

Who built the engine?

I was saying upgrade the fuel pump (Walbro) for sure, and use the entire GN setup first. Before you go trying to upgrade and mixing other car parts in make sure it runs right. The most important thing for those cars is fuel.

Sweet project. I always wondered why they never made a turbo'd camaro. What are your plans for the car? I bet it would be a sweet road racer.
