hey guys, i am lookin to buy a 92 z28 25 annaverisy its in pretty decent condition, only problem is its about 403km away 4or 5 hrs drive, i was gonna use caa an have them tow it to me but they only do up to 250km,i was gonna rent a u haul and trailer but the u haul is gonna be liek 6-700 so i was wondering if anybody knows of any companys that can ship the car to me or any buddies that have a spear saturday that would like to make some side cash that can come with me to pick it up even it they have a pick up that could do the job it would be great because i could rent a trailer to tow it on.
the car is located in Arnprior, Ontario i am in etobicoke near lakeshore/kipling

Why dont you take out a trip permit and drive it home?

 

id rather not drive it home because even tho the seller says its drive able u never know what could happen,and if sumtin did happen id be out of my caa range so i need to tow it home

 

I would drive it home!! What if the owner is right, and you bring the car home for $50 in gas? Your really not taking a risk on it breaking down within a 403km trip. It realistically only has to go 153km before CAA will come get you. If you don't think that car will be able to travel 150km without breaking down, I would reconsider the purchase

 

Worst comes to worst you pay for the extra km's at a discounted price. They won't hook up to you then as soon as you hit your 250km unhook you and leave you stranded. Either way it will work out the same $ wise if you do break down then having to rent a trailer, find a truck etc.

 

yea i think ur right, i am gonna call a couple places tomoro and get some quotes and go from there, worst comes to worst i ll drive it home, but i am buying it with no front and back seats so that one of the reason id like to get it towed

 

Borrow a seat from your Iroc! Takes 5 minutes to remove.

if you can, be better to trailer it, you dont know how it will act on the road, i had my trailer cutom built to be low and with a dove tail, but i still got to be carefull not to hang my exhaust on the trailer when going up ramps.... you can use a dolly (put the front wheels on it) and disconnect the drive shaft, with a dolly you have no hitch weight, but you should disconnect the driveshaft and tie it up, dont try to back it on, i seen people lose there eitire rig over backing it on and letting the stear axle on the ground even if the collem is locked you can be sure the wheels are stright, i used a dolly for 1,000's upon 1,000's of miles to pull a frontwheel drive behind a motorhome and never had any trouble, it would be the same if you disconnect your drive shaft but i much rather have a drive on trailer take note of my pay attention to hanging up as you pull up on the trailer, bring some boards to make the angle better when you pick it up

 

thanks for the offers guys, and pms, but i was able to find a company called Hansens Forwarding who will pick it up and deliever it to my house for 316.51 total, which i think is a great price, so all i have to do is go up there give the car the once over and the call up Hansens, again thanks for the offers and suggestions guys

Done this a few times, not nearly that much...

And i agree with everyone, drive it home. Or ask the guy to meet you half way and pay him some of the gas. If he meets you half way, you can definately drive it all teh way home.

Aparently its about $50 a day.
I dont recall how much it was when i did it, but its around $100 or so. I had it for the whole weekend.

 

no no the U-Haul trailer is 40 bucks, but i dont got nething to tow it with so id have to rent one of their trucks to and it like 50 or 60 for the day plus .69 cents per km,
driving it home is out of the question because id have to insure it and get caa put on it whcih would cost me more the 317 from hansen just to have it shipped to me

 

Ok i see where youre coming from. I wouldnt recommend the truck route...

I find it kind of stupid that they dont have pickup trucks for this sort of thing, they would end up renting you a huge cube van.

I asked a freind to borrow his truck, i dont know if you have that option, but yea i guess the company thing sounds like the best plan right now.
