cheap(er) parts...
hey all...
priced out some parts today - control arms - $480, panhard rod - $240, torque arm - $380, strut brace - $280, hooker smog headers - $1010...
are these realistic for canadian prices? i'm in london, and all the suspension pieces are edelbrock, so maybe that has something to do with it... they were the only prices he quoted me.
any of you toronto area folks know of someplace i might find more reasonable prices on the parts i'm lookin for?
thanx

I'd say those prices are outrageous. Where did you go to get a quote? Shop around and you'll find why. Go to some online shops like Summit and Jegs. They are US places, but after shipping and exchange you would still be ahead. Unless you are stuck on Edelbrock stuff for some reason, I'd also look at other brands/manufactures. There is better quality stuff out there for less. The only part quoted that looks like a decent price is the torque arm. If you want decent quotes from Canadian stores, try your closest Canadian Tire. They can get performance parts from most major manufactures, and their prices aren't too bad either. I priced out a set of headman shorties and they were around $300 for the headers and like $200 for the y-pipe if i remember correctly. That was a while ago though.

When I was checking out the prices this summer there was a big variation between different local suppliers for the same product. The speed shops in particular seemed to be way overpriced.
I paid $700 for Hedmans (part 68481) with y-pipe and had to cut the air tubes off them and plug the hole for the 02 sensor etcetera.
The Hooker Catback was $500. Three inch highflow cat was $175.
If I did it again I might go the Canadian Tyre route. However, if you do this make sure you know exactly which part you want and why because no one else will. Canadian Tyre just phones a depot in the States and someone who knows nothing about cars sends out the parts as requested.
A big problem right now is the fifty cent dollar as most this stuff comes from the US of A.

Try Fasttoys in Winnipeg. I bought alot of cheap Spoon stuff from him and he had good service too.
