Here comes the snow :( Anyone have any projects on the go?

Well, our first real snow started yesterday... I was hoping it would hold off so I can take the GTA for a little spin after I get her back together and see how she flies. Oh well... gonna have to test my patience (which I have very little of). Its looking good though... polished the fuel rails, runners, and plenum... painted the injectors red and the fuel lines black sat. I am going to try to use a fine compound to clean up a little overspray in the engine compartment.

Looks like my future mods are gonna be pushed back some due to another F-Body purchase I may make this week, the 1972 Camaro... I want a classic car, and what better than a classic camaro.

Anyone else doing some projects up, or doing some work on their cars?

I just started my winter project last week. I should have the engine out in a few days for a rebuild. Just the bottem end an a cam. I will also be polishing the intake runners and plenum. Could you post pics of the fuel rails I would like to see that. i also hope to paint the engine bay at this time too as well as a lot of small detailing things that need to be done wile the engine is out.

Well my winter project is getting my injectors cleaned (Cruzin Performance) as well as painting the plenum (and porting), runners, TB, and fuel rails. After that's done, hopefully off to the paint shop for some custom work and windsheild replaced. Looks like I'm gonna have to get it towed out there since I want to send it out by second week in February at the latest...I'm supposed to be in Performance World this year in the Toronto F-body Motorsports booth this year so I want the car done by then.

I've got some early spring projects as well, but I want to dyno the plenum porting first before installing anything else.

I got my injectors done at cruzin performance too!!! I was impressed with their work... although my injectors were in good working order, all with in 2% flow of each other... oh well, at least I know they are goo dnow.. and I got them to paint them red too

I will get some pics of the fuel rail and injectors all together as soon as I put the AFPR on there.

Keep the projects coming.. I am bery interested in what you guys are doing to your cars.

If I get the 1972 Camaro I am looking at, I am going to go for a Chevy 302 TPI engine... It'll be the ultimate stang killer, adn they can;t say its because I have more cubes than them

winter projects

I am waiting till post Christmas to start on my projects. Nothing major, alot of bolt-ons.

I had to replace two injectors last fall so learned how to dissassemble the TPI. Pretty straight forward stuff -- I thought it would be alot harder. While I was at it I ground out the interference on the plenum (EGR). The car responded well to what is a very simple bit of work. So I figure I'll port the whole works in February. I will be testing the remaining 6 injectors at KW Injectors -- they will backflush the units for about $30 CDN apiece. Should end up within 2% on all injectors. (What a difference this makes).

I've used Jacobs Energy Paks before and will do it again just as soon as I get some $$$ to buy a kit. These systems make torque on the 305 and I am really looking forward to improved 0-60 times.

Full roller rockers (1.65) and light-weight push rods, last time I did this it was a very noticeable mod (considering the little amount of work required).

Build a cold air kit to match up to my hood 'power bulge'. Not sure how to make this happen but I think it would be very COOOOOOL.

Want to get a chip but don't know who is straight and who is full of S*%T on actual gains ?????

Musts - an aluminum driveshaft (STOP THE SHAKING !)

RP.

I would tell ya to go out and buy a performance resource chip, but I haven;t had a chance to use mine yet. The guy seemed nice on the phone, and their results look cosure. It was 210 american.

I wanted to do roller rockers on mine.. but I figured I'll just wait until I get my valve seals done and I'll get it all done together.

Nathan: How much extra did it cost to get the injectors painted red? I planned on painting the fuel rail red so the red injectors would definately compliment it! What AFPR do you have? I'm still debating on which one to get.

I don't think he charged me anything extra... it was 80 something dollars american.

I bought the JET AFPR just because I thought they were the only one that had one... I presonally don't like it, it looks too cheap for such a high price (160bux)... it almost looks like you can get away by welding a nut to the top of your original FPR and thread a screw in there... thats basically what the JET one looks like, besides it being aluminum, anodized blue... ooooohhh.. ahhhhhh.. LOL... looks crappy to me, it won't match my engine, so I think I'll spray it with some black sem. to match it up with my engine.

Thanks, I have to remember to request that then. I think the red injectors would like sweet. I'll stay away from the JET AFPR then...I was actually thinking of getting either the Crane or Accel one. I'm also gonna order the Accel fuel gauge, so I was thinking of keeping the setup uniform with one brand...but the Accel one looks kinda cheap compared to the Crane. Still haven't decided, but I'm leaning more towards the Accel for one other reason which is the Crane unit utilizes the OEM diaphram and the Accel has it's own.

I have to get a gauge as well... I will go withthe Accel gauge... it appears that my JET AFPR uses the factory diaphragm as well... gees... I can;t believe I paid 160bux for an extruded piece of aluminum thats been anodized and minimal machining... well, somethign to add to the list of "learning the hard way"

I have both the Crane and Accel AFPR. Neither are worth what I paid for them. The documentation that came with the Crane piece was a joke. If I had to choose, I'd get the Accel again. Why are you guys getting the Accel fuel pressure gauge? That's the one that mounts to fuel rail right?

Yup, and as far as I know it's the only one available unless someone else knows better.

Acceld Z: Just curious, other than the crappy instructions for the Crane, what else would make you go back to the Accel AFPR? I've got to order one sometime in the next couple weeks before I start hauling the plenum and runners and fuel rail off and I don't want to get the wrong one.

The reason I asked about the FP gauge was because you may want to get one that can be seen while you are driving or running at the track. The Accel rail gauge would be useful for setting base fuel pressure and that's about it. I bought a gauge from our local Snap On guy (crack dealer) that has an 18' line so I can watch the pressure while I'm racing. They can also be used to relieve fuel pressure when you are monkeying with the intake.I'm not trying to dump on the Accel rail gauge but you may find a "remote" gauge more useful. As for the JET vs. Accel AFPR, they are basically the same. The JET has a hex adjustment bolt while the Accel has a Torx bit adjustment bolt. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the different makes because they are all basically cosmetic variations of the same thing.

As for my winter project, which has lasted about 3 winters,i'm having nitrous pistons installed. They are only being installed because the engines apart allready. I also ordered a Nitrous Express kit but that's not going in until the engine has been broken in and tuned properly.

Sounds like a quick combo.... interested on how fast it'll go. I don't want any extra gauges in the car, I like the stock look. So the gauge on the rail would be sufficient for me.. thanx for the input

I will admit, those rail gauges look pretty cool. Was/is your GTA the "feature car" at GTAsourcepage? If so, that thing is sweet. The nitrous is for "emergencys" only. The car should be quick enough without it

My winter progect is well under way now with only two bolts left and i will be able to remove my engine.

Is anyone useing edelbrock heads? I was looking at buying a set but lookout $1900 thats a lot of cash. please let let me know if you have seen them for less. I mite just have the stock ones ported instead for less than $500. what do you guys think.

I want the Accel gauge for the one reason you mentioned which was adjusting the fuel pressure under the hood and for trouble shooting reasons. I've got a pressure tester gauge with the hose as well that I could always hook up when need, but I agree with Nathan that I don't really want a gauge mounted on the dash or the hood. Everyone has their own preferences I guess.

I have Edelbrock heads on my GTA. They have been ported by LPE. I'd look at the TFS G2's (twisted wedge) over the TFS 23's but that's just me. The G2's do limit valve lift with "normal" pistons however. Trigger, what are your plans for the engine? If you list what else you plan on doing to the engine, I may be able to make a cam suggestion.

Well i dont have plans cast in stone. i am still working out the detail. What i would like to do is a .010 over, forged pistons, rings, bearings oil pump, cam, AFPR, headers,Y pipe, and maybe a beter stall converter. I will be keeping compertion at 10.1
Not too sure if i will go with new heads or just port the old ones.

I just got back from porting the plenum and will be porting the base later this week.

I am not to sure what will be my next step.

I have already changer the injectors, K&N, air foil, gutted the MAF, and a cat back sys.

Before you choose a cam you need to decide if you are going to retain the stock heads. I'd also change the "maybe" on the converter to a "probably". Without it your new engine will probably feel slower than the old one. Try and get one of the high stall S10 or 'Vette converters. If you have any connections at some parts stores, you may be able to get one for around $200. If I sound preachy, i'm sorry. It's just that I have made many mistakes with my cars and I like to help people avoid the same mistakes that I made.
